Ch01 - New life

The past 5 years hadn't been that great for 25 years old Samuel. He had always been a bit lazy, so he got average grades in school. He prefered to spend his time playing video games or watching movies and series. Things got worse after highschool, when he got into college.

Since he wasn't living with his parents anymore, he got even more lazy. With a laptop and internet, he spent even more time not studying, or even working. He watched animes, read mangas online, and later discovered light novels, and then web novels.

He failed his 1st year of college twice, and spent the last 3 years working part-time here and there to get the minimum amount of money for living expenses, and spending his free time playing video games, or on the internet with japanese entertainment. That last year, he spend more time reading chinese novels, starting with Martial God Space, then Martial God Asura, and a few others. After being frustrated with the usual japanese beta protagonist, he found the xuanha stories quite refreshing. Still, even among them, there were some he liked, and some he disliked.

Overall, his life was dull, and he regretted not having put more efforts in his studies or social interactions. He envied the main characters from fictional works, at least to a certain extend, as they often found themselves in life-threatening situations. And like every normal, ordinary people, Samuel was afraid of death.

Unfortunately, one usually didn't get to decide when to die. One night, as he was taking a stroll after treating himself to a chinese restaurant, he came across a crime scene: 3 people robbing a night grocer's shop. One of them, a young greenhorn, panicked and stabbed Samuel.

For Samuel, what had just happened seemed surreal. He was dumbfounded when he found himself witnessing such a crime, so his reaction was delayed when one of the robber attacked him. It was only when the attacker stepped back that he started to realise what was happening. He looked down and saw his blood flowing outof his body. Then he felt the pain. He stumbled back a few steps, and collapsed on the road, facing upward.

'No... This isn't happening. This isn't happening. God. NO!!!' though Samuel in panic.

While he was desperatly trying to stop the bleeding, the roobers decided to cut their business short. They quickly gathered their loot, and the one who stabbed him got behind the wheel. Because he was still in schock from stabbing a fellow man, he forgot that said man had collapsed some small distance in front of the car.

When he heard the sound of the engine, Samuel turned his head to the side and saw a SUV. He sank even further in despair when he realised he was just in front of the car.

In his rush to get away from the place, the robber drove the SUV over his victim. Right over the place where he stabbed him. On top of the stab wound, Samuel got bruised organs and broken ribs, one of them having pierced his lung. Pain irradiated in Samuel's whole torso after the passage of the vehicle.

Samuel spent the last conscious minutes of his life in horror and despair. He was aware that he was going to die. He was unwilling, he felt it was too unfair, too cruel, to die like that, without even having reached his 30s. He was afraid about what was to come, because even though he read a lot of stories about reincarnation and transmigration, he didn't really belive it would happen in reality.

He was afraid that the soul didn't exist. That his memories, his feelings, what makes him him beyond his body, would end. The end of his existence. He laid there on the ground, choking in his blood, thinking about all the things he liked, all the things he missed, all the things he wouldn't get to experience.

He lost consciousness while internally crying over his misfortune, and died on the way to the emergency room. His parents and his 2 siblings would get the news soon after, and the few friends he had left a day later. 4 days after his death, he would be buried in his hometown. A week after his death, the one who killed him would surrender to the police, unable to get over killing an innocent bystander. His accomplices would have already fled the country.

Sometime, somewhere, a body lying in a bed started to stir.

Sensations came back slowly. First was touch, then smell, hearing, taste. Slowly, he opened his eyes, and was blinded by the low amount of light for a second before they adjusted. He was just awakeningfrom coma, so he wasn't able to think yet, just feel.

He laid there for a minute, before confusion was shown on his face. He was wondering where he was, how he ended up there, and surprisingly, who he was. He was assaulted by a headache and groaned, as his brain started to put pieces back together.

'I'm alive' he though.

But he didn't think it in a single language, but in 3. One was foreign language, while 2 were both native and foreign languages. It was because one language was native to the body, and the other was native to the soul.

"I'm still alive" he said in low raspy voice. "No, not still alive. I'm alive once again."

He kept repeating that in his mind, because it felt to good to be true. He remembered the robbery, the knife, the car. He knew he had died. Yet here he was, in a bed, knowing a language he identified as chinese even though he had never studied it. Here he was in an oriental room, in a body that didn't seem to be his own.

The thing he though would happen only in stories happened to him. His soul had transmigrated into another body. And judging by the lack of any modern items, not even electric light, in a room that was too well furnished to belong to a poor family, he could only conclude that he had gone to a different world, less advanced than his original one.

After making sure he wasn't dreaming, he cried softly for a while. He cried because he had died. He cried because he lost his family, and because they lost him. He cried because he lost his friends. And he cried because he had the chance to live again.

After calming down, he decided to check if he had gained anything from the transmigration.

'Status' he though, hoping yet not really believing it would open.

"... It really showed up... Wait, Yue Yang? Yue clan? I'm in Long Live Summon?"

He caughed a little. His throat was still sensitive, so he decided to keep his words in his mind. Besides, it wouldn't be good toattract attention with the noise. He wasn't ready to meet the others yet, he still needed some time to himself. And it would be a bad to get the habit of talking to himself, you could never know who would be listening.

Samuel was dumbfounded. He though he had gone to some random world, but it turned out to be one of his favored chinese novels. He liked it because of the beast training and evolution, non-human beauties, and runes and enchanting, which tended to be lacking in the xuanhuan he had read. And of course he didn't forget the harem and polygamy.

He was pleased to be in a novel he liked, but also depressed. Xuanhuan words were harsh on the weaks, and he was a target for elimination and possible capture and torture. He couldn't just enjoy the new world like the usual japanese isekai protagonists. He was already marked by dangerous enemies.

'... I have no choice but to learn about this world and get strong as fast as possible..'

He looked at his attributes, and couldn't help but cringe at how low the physical ones were. He was relieved his wisdom, charisma and luck were decent. He remembered that Yue Yang ancestry was special, and surmissed that he hadn't activated his bloodline. But since he wasn't sent there by an old daoist with a sword spirit, he didn't know how to activate his bloodline and contract the grimoire.

'Well, I may not have a sword spirit teacher, but I have a gamer cheat. In a way, it is more usefull than the sword spirit. I should check all the functions and capabilities of the system... Menu'
