Some Progress

While Elder Baili and Elder Xing discussed, Mei Chao Bing led Yun Bei Fen back to the room and gave him a look. "How do you feel? Tired?"

Yun Bei Fen put down Xiao Hui and shook his head. "Not too much."

Mei Chao Bing nodded and then motioned outside to the courtyard. "Then do you want to go and train a bit? I can accompany you and we can see if you can make any progress with learning how to fly. How does that sound?"

Yun Bei Fen pursed his lips and then nodded. "Sure!" He leaped in front of Mei Chao Bing and gripped his hand, giving him a happy smile. "You have to watch me closely. If I make any progress, you have to tell me."

"Of course, ah. Why would I not tell you?" He squeezed Yun Bei Fen's hand and then pulled him outside, watching him take out the old sword and using his spiritual energy to make it rise into the air. The result was still not looking too good. Although Yun Bei Fen was able to raise the sword, he still wasn't able to balance it very well.

Mei Chao Bing still watched on, directing him to try again and again, giving as much advice as he could. Still, it was obvious that Yun Bei Fen would need quite a long time until he was able to make any real progress. It made Mei Chao Bing realize that Elder Baili's attitude from before probably wasn't without reason.

It wasn't that Yun Bei Fen wasn't trying to work hard. In fact, that he had managed to attain his current level and make at least this much progress after being taught diligently, was only because he was extremely hard-working. If Yun Bei Fen was told to do something, then he wouldn't rest before he wasn't able to achieve the results that were expected of him. Unfortunately, his talent probably wasn't very high.

Mei Chao Bing looked at the beautiful face and couldn't help but sigh. He had never thought about this but talent really could limit one's path. He himself had shown to have limitless possibilities from the very beginning. Only because of that had he been able to get the highly-regarded Elder Feng as his Master. Yun Bei Fen, on the other hand … he really wondered how he had managed to become part of the Teng Yong Sect.

Thinking of that, Mei Chao Bing couldn't help but speak up. "Little bunny, say, how did you become Elder Baili's disciple?"

The sword shook violently and almost fell down but Yun Bei Fen tried very hard to keep it up in the air and managed to catch it with his spiritual energy just before it hit the ground. Only then did he look at Mei Chao Bing. "He walked through our town one evening and saw me looking out of the door. Then he asked me if I wanted to become his disciple." Well, that was the short version.

Mei Chao Bing nodded. Rumor had it that Elder Baili had always refused to casually take in disciples like the other Elders. He had always said that he would only take somebody as a disciple if he felt that there was some fate between them. How exactly the Elder decided that there was fate … It was a mystery to everybody.

And considering the stories he had heard about Elder Baili's other three disciples, Mei Chao Bing felt that this really wasn't a simple matter. All of his disciples seemed to have very distinct personalities, none of them similar to one another. As for Elder Baili … He didn't know him well enough and hadn't heard about his past much so he didn't know where he fit in. He just felt that the Elder probably had had his hands full when trying to teach these four.

Still, it was good that he was this kind of Master. Somebody who chose only a few people and not just based on their talent would probably be much closer to them and willing to help them out if they ever got into trouble. Or, well, repeatedly got into trouble in the case of Elder Baili's disciples.

"Your Master seems to love you very much."

Yun Bei Fen honestly nodded. "Back then, he promised to be my second father, after all. Naturally, he has to love me very much." With a happy smile, the sword rose higher and seemed to straighten out for just a moment before Yun Bei Fen turned back to watch it.

Mei Chao Bing raised his brows. It seemed that it might even be good to distract his little bunny a little. That way, he might be able to grasp the concept without consciously thinking about it. Some cultivators were just like that, it wouldn't matter how long they thought about it, instead, they needed to have some luck and gain inspiration while doing things.

Maybe that would be easier for Yun Bei Fen as well rather than being taught step-by-step. It was a matter worth trying. It wouldn't be able to change the fact that his talent wasn't too high but it might be able to make things at least slightly easier for him. After all, practicing again and again might also have had the result in the past that Yun Bei Fen just subconsciously started to do what he was supposed to do.

Still, it was something that had to be tested out slowly. He couldn't rush anything and risk injuring Yun Bei Fen just because he wanted him to show results soon. That also wouldn't be better than meeting any demonic practitioners unprepared. No, he should just steadily keep at his training for now and see how it went while protecting him when they were outside. That was the way to go.

With that thought, Mei Chao Bing nodded at what Yun Bei Fen had said and then motioned at the sword. "You continue with that. It could just be that you've made a little bit of progress. It seems like it doesn't shake as much anymore."

Yun Bei Fen's expression lit up and he focused on his task with newfound vigor. Ah, his senior martial brother Mei felt that he had made progress! Just as he had thought, it was much better to train with him than to train with his Master.
