The Jinx

Jared Khan a 17-year-old boy who is very handsome with an attractive forest green eyes, height of 6'5", straight short brunette hair, nicely structured jaws like that of Timothée Chalamet. Jared lives with his brother (more of a bother), James who is 20 and a sister, Sharon who is 24. Both think Jared is a very unfortunate, clumsy, hopeless child who was born by mistake. Even at school he is called "Jinxy". Jared's parents Emma and Jason never felt any ounce of love for their son, they were never there for him both as friends and as parents. His name Jared was given to him by the nurse because his mother never wanted him in the first place as he was a symbol of the misfortune the had at his conception. Immediately after high school Jared was kicked out of the house. " You're a curse, go back to whom ever sent you to me" Jason said to his last son with utter disgust. "Finally daddy you're doing what should have been done a long time ago" Sharon said with lots of happiness over her face "Yeah right maybe after his birth if this had been done we wouldn't have suffered with this jinxed animal with us" James spat with disgust surrounding his face and voice. Jared walked out the gates to Khan estate in shame, dejection and feelings of worthlessness. Jared has no friends so he walked and walked and kept on walking with his two luggage till he came across a cab. Jared hailed for the cab saying nothing, he just paid the taxi driver telling him to take him anywhere far away with the money he paid earlier. The taxi driver took note of his attitude having an odd feeling that he needs help so he took him to the main city where he will be able to find something for himself. The taxi driver returned the money to Jared telling him to take care of himself and find a better place to stay, Jared thanked him and started walking to heavens only know where, he had no direction, he knew no one, had nothing on him. At that point, Jared decided to let go of his past and his family and move on with his life. He also decided to be a great business man and be greater than his father also put them in shame for abandoning him at his young age to fend for himself. Two hours after walking and resting he saw a shop looking for a cashier, the poster had the phone number of the store, Jared quickly took out his phone and called up the number. "Hello. Glizzy clothing store. How can I help you?. I sharp lady's voice came out. " Umm... hello. I saw a poster which says you're looking for a cashier". Jared said shyly " Oh. I will like you to come to our store to see the manager personally. Our store is at City Mall. I've set an appointment for you by 3pm this afternoon. I hope you will arrive early" Looking at the time Jared had only one hour, thirty minutes left till his appointment so he decided to find something to eat and where to drop his bags during the period he will go for his interview. He stopped at a store; he bought soda and energy bars. Jared was looking too weak so the store owner offered him were to sit then they started a conversation. The store owner is a man whose name is Michael in his mid forties who has two children who are twins but his daughter was taken away by his ex wife who left him for a wealthy man while his son left home to find a better job in another city and hasn't seen him for over four years. " The last thing he said to me was 'Father I won't come back home with nothing, I will be back with fortunes so that you can enjoy the result of all you have worked to provide for me since that witch abandoned us". Michael repeated the last words of his son to Jared after telling him his whole story. Apparently, Michael hasn't seen his daughter since she was 4 years old. After hearing of Jared's story, the owner told... in other words ORDERED Jared to live with him in his small house. Time flies so fast that Jared noticed it was already thirty minutes to 3. Jared asked for the direction to City Mall from Michael which was just 25 minutes walk from Michael's store. Immediately Jared got out of the store he checked his small bag which he carries, calculating his saving. Instead of walking, Jared ran to the mall which took him only 15 minutes. Looking at the building, its internal and external furnishings, the kind of things sold, he immediately sensed the mall is for the rich ones. No average or poor person can purchase a single thing there. After locating the clothing store, he met with the manager. Jared knocked softly on the door then he heard a loud 'come in'. Standing in front of the manager at the other side of the mahogany table with feelings of anxiety overwhelming him "Good Day sir, um...My name is Jared Khalil Khan, I-I called earlier about the job application of a cashier" he said with fear looking at the stiff face of the manager. " Can I see your credentials? " the manager requested " um.... Sir the thing is... I don't have a college d-degree yet which is why I- I need this job to fund my tuition if my applied scholarship doesn't work out" Jared said with " head faced down to cover his shame Considering Jared's situation and his expression, he said" let me see your high school diploma". Putting his hand into his bag, Jared brought out his diploma handing it over to the manager. While looking at the diploma, he asked " What made you apply for this job? Jared was tongue tied, he doesn't lie at all and not wanting to say the entire truth, Jared told him half of his story cutting out some private information. " Like I said, I don't have money for college and my parents are not willing to sponsor my education. Leaving home, I decided to work to be able to fulfill my long awaiting dream". Jared said with anxiety, it felt like his heart has being stabbed again. " Well... Looking at your grades you are a smart kid, I hope you are honest too. Ordinarily, I wouldn't hire you but considering your situation. You can be my cashier and long as you don't steal from me we are good. You can start by next Monday" " Thank you sir, I will try my best not to let you down" Jared said as he left the manager's office happily.
