Chapter 3: Anger

Lethea looked at her mother. Then she looked at the paper that she still held in her two hands. Then she looked at the rocket.

All she wanted to do was pinch herself to find out if she was dreaming.

As her mother turned to face her. She stared into her mother's eyes.

Every time she looked into her mother's eyes when she got upset or sad, she would just see all the moments with her.

But now she couldn't. It didn't matter how hard she tried, she couldn't picture any moments with her mother. All she saw was the dark emptiness inside herself.

Her mother tried to hug her. But she quickly pulled away.

"Lethea. I'm so sorry." Her mother said as a few tears went down Lethea's cheek.

"Did Dad know about this?" Lethea asked wiping her tears off her cheek before they could ever reach her chin.

Her mother didn't say a word.

Her mother tried to help Lethea wipe her eyes, but Lethea didn't let her touch her face.

Lethea and her mother stared at each other deeply in each other's eyes.

"Mom..." She said with a serious tone.

"Did...Dad...know? I want to know the truth and nothing but the truth." She said, but this time with an angry tone.

Only one word came out of her mother's mouth at that very moment. And Leatha was hoping for the answer to be the one she wanted.

"Yes" her mother said with her head down.

And Lethea couldn't help know that, that was the truth.

"You've been lying to me all my life?! That explains why I never in my life got my blood tested, because you knew I wouldn't be the same blood type as you! All the kids at school told me I looked nothing like you!! And all my life I never believed them! I always fought for you during all our hardest times!! So why did you lie to me?!" Lethea yelled.

Lethea didn't know what else to do but yell.

"Honey, I was afraid that you wouldn't love us anymore." Her mother said with worry.

"How do you know that?! Don't you ever try taking risks?! If you had told me when I was at least thirteen, we would've gotten through it together! It was so easy for you to tell Dad but for some reason you were to scared to tell your own child! Even though I'm not your child! I can't even look at you the same way anymore!" Lethea yelled.

Lethea was so upset and mad that she went to her bedroom without waiting for what her mother had to say.

She started packing up a suitcase. Then she put the loaded suitcase under her bed so no one would see it.

A few hours later as she was writing at her desk. Her father called her down for dinner.

She wasn't in the mood to eat, even though her stomach was begging for a bite. So she went downstairs anyway. She wasn't going to make eye contact with her mother or father.

She sat down at the table with her plate in front of her. But even though her stomach was yelling at her, she didn't touch her food once. She didn't even pick up her fork.

"Honey, are you ok?" Her father asked eating a fork full of food.

But Lethea didn't say a word. She just sat there, doing nothing but staring at her full plate of food.

"Lethea, eat right now." Her mother commanded.

Then Leatha had no choice but to speak.

"Are we really going to act like nothing happened?" Lethea said, still staring deeply into her plate like she was having a staring contest with her food.

Her mother put her fork down on the napkin.

"Honey, I know you're upset right now. But that shouldn't stop you from eating." Her mother said looking at Lethea.

Lethea finally took her eyes off her untouched plate and looked straight at her mother.

"I'm not eating anything you put on my plate. Yes I'm mad and upset...but I'm also disappointed in you, both of you. I tried my best to help you and make you feel like the happiest mother and father in the world. And this is how you repay me? By lying to me all my life? Well I don't deserve it. And I don't think I should be eating dinner from two people who are now strangers to me." She said.

Then she stood up from her chair and went upstairs to her room, leaving the untouched plate behind.

A few hours later, Lethea turned her light down in her room and sat at her desk not making any sound, so her parents would think that she was asleep.

Lethea knew that running away was a big risk to take. But she was willing to do anything to find her three sisters.
