Chapter 11

"now, T no dey part of this parol as him be dey with me since morning. So I go ask una one time, wetin sup?" King asked, looking D and J dead in the eyes.

"as in how boss?" D asked, trying to play the "I don't know card".

"D, you know say I no dey like make persin dey use me play. Joe comes here, using thanking me as an obvious silly excuse because we all know that's not what brought him here. he comes here and he is looking around and then he sees her. So I want to know how he knows she is here?" not ready to dance any kind of dance and not also ready for any lies.

They knew that this was it, their backs were up against the wall and the only thing bringing them down was the truth. Honesty was always the best policy with King. D gulps as he prepares to answer.

"Boss, she been escape" D said causing King to look at him. He cleared his throat and continued. "she go call centre, na there we find her. But as she dey there, Joe's men don already site her." D said. King looked between J and D.

"and nobody thought to tell me this?" King asked.

"boss we no won worry you and we no want make you vex. We no know say Joe go come" D said.

"why he no go come. Why! E fit be say na him they chase am that day" King said, his temper rising.

"don't get mad at him, it's my fault" Leah came in, trying to salvage the situation.

"I wasn't talking to you. D, you know what I do to people who mess up like this" King said.

"boss I know. I take full responsibility" D said.

"no I take full responsibility" Leah came in again, still trying to salvage the situation. She didn't want anything bad to happen to someone because of her.

"did you miss the part where I said you should shut up!"

"you can't tell me what to do".

"I can, I have and I will. Now shut up!" King said again, his tone rising by the minute. That tone makes her keep quiet. "D, na because you be my guy. Make this thing no happen again. Why couldn't you just stay put. Dem block your ear, why you know dey hear word!" King said, not understanding why she ran. He told them to give her what she wanted, so why? King wondered.

"you just locked me in here and you expected me to just sit there? Because you are King?" Leah said, though it sounded more like a question.

"because bad things happen to dumb people. Now you brought Joe into my house, Lord knows who next is coming. Just look at who am trying to help" King said and scoffed.

"I don't need your help; I can take care of myself".

"you can't".

"I can".

"you don't know this place. You will die if whoever was chasing you finds you".

"just let me go!"

"fine! Go. Just… just get out, you are already giving me enough headache as it is. In this life I no like trouble. Carry your wahala dey go." King said as he took his seat, already feed up with her.

"thank you" Leah said, then turned around and started leaving.

"J, have one of the boys see her off".

"I don't need it".

"suit yourself". King says and she stars leaving.

"boss". T called as King was about to take a sip of his drink. King looked at him and he looked back at King. King sighed, knowing what the look was for.

"J just get one person to see her out. The person should not pass the door. I just want to ensure that the door was shut in her face. J nods his head and goes to do as he is told. As he is about to take a sip of his drink, King looks up at D and then looks back at T and sees that both of them are looking at him. "what? Na she won go na" King said, not understanding why they wanted him to do more or feel bad about it.

"but you no for let am" T said.

"you know how these streets dey. This place na the whole of Lagos inside Lagos" D said.

"I cannot hold her against her will. Even police talk say after 24 hours, if no evidence, them go release persin" King said, bringing up valid points to back himself up.

"but you know be police, you be King" T said in the hopes that he could change his mind.

"drop it. Make una drop am. Drop it" King said, ending the conversation.

As King is about to take a sip of his drink, he hears numerous sounds of gun shots causing him to pause. He looks at D and T, then looks back at D, indicating he should go check it out. As D is about to move, Leah comes in running and screaming, with J behind her. She runs straight to King.

"I'll stay with you, I'll stay with you and do whatever you say. Just help me!" Leah said so fast, he almost didn't hear her.

"J, what happened?" King asked.

"Baba Sege's men are in front of the house. The minute her and Dogo stepped out, they opened fire. Dogo is dead" J said.

"ehn?" T and D said. King looked at Leah angrily.

"what did you do?" King asked.

"me? I didn't do anything" Leah said, trying to remain calm, knowing she was lying.

"don't mess with me! Baba Sege's men are out there shooting at us. If Baba Sege is involved that means this is big, what did you do!".

"nothing!" she whimpered. "I swear, nothing". King glares at her with a death glare. This woman just brought trouble to his home.
