74 years ago, a mysterious surge of energy warped the entire world. It did not cause any damage to electrical devices, but caused giant gates to form. The gates are a portal to another world, where you kill monsters and retrieve items. After humans adapted, the world began to evolve around this system.
People also gained skills and abilities, saying that one person was stronger than another was incorrect. If they were stronger, the weaker could just level up and get stronger. But there was a limit to these levels. When a human is born, there is a fixed limit that they cannot exceed.
Guilds have formed to hunt through the gates. Gates that are left unchecked will break and let loose all the monsters hidden inside. So if the guilds are not quick enough, the city will turn to rubble.
Gates and "Hunters" are ranked with a letter system. The rankings go from E, D, C, B, A, and S. E being the least powerful and S being the strongest. But only 7 people around the world have exceeded S rank. We call those select few, Grand Hunters.
