Synopsis

"You have all the power in the world. The money, the strength, the charm. But what does it matter, when you are fated to a life of eternal misery? To repeatedly live a loveless life? Wherein everyone - and everything - you love dies and fades away with time?" For as long as Jason can remember, he has been a killer. Raised as a child soldier, he was trained in the arts of murder as a mercenary, an assassin, and a bodyguard. In short, his life was anything but dull. Yet his greatest wish was to live a normal life, date a normal girl, have a moment to breathe and relax. His wish was to be a normal boy, no, a real boy and not some weapon. But his thirst for strength led him to the path of both the scientifically psychic world and the mystically supernatural world. One day, he is entrusted to protect a young girl whose entire family was murdered. Two years after taking her as his sister, Jason tries to lead a life that's as normal as possible in the most technologically advanced city in the world, Sanctuary. However his newfound freedom is threatened when his past comes to haunt him, and his hunger to join the extraordinary life once more begins to consume him. As enemies from both the worlds of supernatural and science come crashing down upon him, Jason must make a choice, and choose which life he'd rather have. An uneventful, normal life. Or the life of the impossible, where dog eats dog, and only the strongest survive. "There are no good people or bad people. No heroes, no villains. Just people. People doing what they believe is right. From their perspective. Their experience. Their upbringing. Their nature. Their nurture. But there are monsters out there ... monsters who just want to watch the world burn. Wanna guess which one I am?" Cover art commissioned by me and made by ArtofLariz from DeviantArt. Warning: This is an 18+ novel with detailed violence and mature scenes. Spoiler-not-a-spoiler: The story will eventually leave the urban fantasy setting and head into high fantasy. Because of this, supporting characters may be written out as the story progresses forward, so please don't get too attached. (Possible side-effects to attachment may include crying in public and blaming ninjas, swearing out loud in a bus, smashing your pc's keyboard, or chucking your phone at the wall and almost hitting your mom. Readers discretion is advised)

Chapter 1Prologue

Through the visor of his helmet, Jason glanced down at the woman crawling to his feet. She suspired, her chest heaving as she tried to drag herself towards him. However, the sword embedded in her chest was debilitating her movements. The scent of burning timber and metal, chafed with the scent of metallic blood, flitted past them as the rubicund glare of flames cast shadows around them.

"Help her."

She muttered as her hand stretched out in another direction, pointing at a collapsed figure, a barely moving petite shadow clad in the darkness of the flames.

Jason slowly raised his hands and lifted the helmet off, before kneeling down.

"I save her then you die, ma'am," he replied quietly, his apathetic gaze burrowing into hers.

Anger flashed in the woman's eyes; she did not care for her own life, her concern was solely on the unmoving frame.

"Help her! Please..." she begged hoarsely. The light in her eyes slowly started to fade as she pleaded with him.

Jason stood up and walked to the other person. A child, no more than 12, lay sprawled on a flower bed, blood gently colouring the nearby flowers and soil from a deep wound on the right side of her chest. The clean wound appeared to be identical to the stab wound on the woman: the little girl was run through the chest at the same time as the woman.

Gently, he straightened her so she could lay on her back. Then he gingerly placed his helmet on her head. The breather slowly furrowed itself inwards as the bottom part of the helmet shrank in on itself to fit her neck. At the same time, Jason took a small vial of blue liquid out of his side pocket. Carefully, he poured the liquid onto the wound, which quickly started knitting itself back.

"Please… keep… her… safe...e.." breathed the older woman, as she passed away.

Despite the woman speaking in an almost inaudible voice, Jason quietly responded.

"I will."

Jason opened his eyes, his dark irises shining like two black opals as the light from dawn slowly seeped in from the windows. His square jaw and stubborn chin were covered in a scruffy shadow, accentuating his roguish features while his short, messy hair stood up in half-spikes.

Again, he thought as he lifted his muscular body from the bed, his bronze-kissed skin covered in a light coat of sweat. He turned his head to look at the wall opposite the window. Beyond that wall was Alina's room, and he knew she wasn't sleeping, but crying. After all, it was the anniversary of her parents' deaths.

***

Alina emerged from her room with puffy red eyes, and her nose was assaulted by the scent of a scrumptious breakfast. As she headed downstairs to the dining room, she began to guess what was being served.

Toast? Or waffles? Something buttery. Savoury smell hints at soup or stew. Hmm… and that sweet fruity smell. Probably dessert, she thought as the heaviness in her chest slightly dimmed and her steps became lighter and graceful.

Reaching the table she couldn't help but smile. Buttered toast, vegetable soup with smoked bacon, and a slice of blueberry coffee cake were all neatly arranged on the table like a tribute.

"Morning," said Jason, as he set a glass of orange juice down, the pink apron Alina had gotten for him swathed over his body. "Couldn't sleep?"

"It's alright. Just nervous for class," shrugged a nonchalant Alina while grabbing a toast.

"You'll be fine," he assured her while mixing sugar into his coffee. "Just remember not -"

"I know, I know. Don't show off, don't bully," she interrupted, already shovelling the soup down her throat while rolling her eyes.

"I'll drop you off," he continued while sipping his coffee, his eyes on the beautiful view outside the window. The highest floor of the penthouse gave him a splendid look at the sprawling city below them, while the sea further off shone like gold in the morning light. "Great day for a ride."

Alina garroted on a spoonful of her soup and turned to glare at Jason.

"Nuh-ah, no you don't," she replied almost immediately, her fork pointed at Jason in an accusing manner. "You just wanna show off your new bike!"

"How'd you know?" he asked in mock surprise after giving an exaggerated gasp, a hand on his chest. "My plan to show off to all high school girls and seduce them has been discovered!"

"Well, it's not much of a plan really," Alina sighed exaggeratingly, pretending to be exasperated. "A better plan would be to become a teacher there and then act all cool like you ... usually do…"

Alina's voice trailed off as she realized that Jason was acting evasive, whistling and looking at anywhere and everything but her.

"No way, you wouldn't…" she gasped, horror swimming in her eyes.

"I would," he said back while ruffling his short hair sheepishly, a slight grin engraved on the corner of his lips. "I was going to tell you but-"

"You snagged a teaching post at my school! The hell?! You're not even 22! And I don't need you watching me twenty-four seven!" Alina snapped as she stabbed her fork into a slice of blueberry coffee cake and jammed it into her mouth.

"Whoa, calm down. This isn't about you. I was offered a post when the principal found out I saved a student. I haven't accepted it. Yet," he hastily added with raised arms, surrendering, as he tried to justify himself.

"Wait, you saved someone? Who? When? Why?"

"Long story, maybe I'll tell you one day," Jason checked his watch before gazing back up at Alina. "Alright, kid, hurry and get into your uniform. Don't want to be late for your first day."

Jason began cleaning the table as he attempted to change the subject.

"Alright, fine. But this isn't over," Alina answered as she got up and started to go upstairs to her room, running two steps at a time.

Jason watched her go for a moment, before moving to the kitchen, placing the dishes in his hands into the sink, his mind wandering off to another place…

Chocolate brown hair with copper-ish blonde highlights, wavy hair tied in a messy side braid. Piercingly green eyes that were glazed with a faraway look and creamy ivory-coloured skin made more prominent due to bruising on her cheek and arms. Her, kneeling on the ground, unable to stand up as he looked down at her, his head tilted in bemusement as he spoke.

"You… "

Jason's recollection ended abruptly as he heard Alina's footsteps coming down the stairs. Looking up, he froze when he saw Alina, a slight scowl appearing on his face as he observed her school uniform.

She was wearing an average high school uniform: a white shirt and a red tie, hung snugly around her neck, both of which were concealed by a slightly tight hugging navy blue jacket. Her legs, from above her knees and below, were completely exposed due to the slightly short skirt and white socks.

"What?" she asked anxiously while fidgeting, her concern increasing by several knots when she noticed his disapproval. "Does it look bad? I knew it, it looks bad."

"I don't like it," Jason answered, his scowl more pronounced as he crossed his arms. "I'm definitely taking the teaching position. How else am I gonna keep the boys away from you?" he explained when he noticed her confused look.

A look of relief flooded Alina's face before she rolled her eyes, annoyed at his over-exaggerated opinion. "Seriously? That's why you're pouting? Relax, I won't fall for any bad boys. Promise."

Jason grunted as he turned away, muttering on how ridiculous uniforms were while Alina grinned, humming a tune as she skipped to the entrance and put her shoes on.

"Well, I'm off," Alina said, hopping cheerfully to Jason and kissing his cheek. "Please don't kill anyone while I'm away, I don't wanna move again."

"No promises, kid," he replied with a shadow of a grin appearing on his face. He then watched Alina walk out the door.

Now then, he thought, his smile fading as though it didn't exist. He turned his cold and stoic eyes to look out the window once again, contemplating. How should I pass the time?

An excellent novel. The Author is an exceptional writer, and this story is a piece of art. The story starts off with character building and a suspenseful plot. The beautiful narrative continues on and builds a fascinating world. The most wonderful aspect of the story is that there is always something new with rich descriptions and vivid imagery. There is a sad undertone to the story, but it definitely helps in highlighting the happy occasions making them more real and easy to connect to. Grammar wise it is almost perfect and possibly one of the best works in WN. I think the most wonderful aspect of this novel is the character building. The MC is just wonderful; he is described very well and the backstories bring life to him making him seem very real. Not only is the MC well described, but so are the side characters. The dialogue between the characters flow smoothly and really highlight their personalities. Reading the story will make you feel that you have been introduced to a diverse cast of characters. Overall, it is a wonderful read and a definite recommendation, the authors, including me, can definitely learn from the meticulous writing and the readers can have a wonderful experience reading this piece of work. Recommendations - for the auxiliary chapter in clarification and explanation, I think you should add "(possible spoilers)" to the title as some extra information is revealed there. My personal opinion is not to leave the great side chapters in the auxiliary section but to add them to the story and just title them side chapter/ side stories. And, of course, it is added to my library to finish reading!

This novel is a masterpiece and the author is exceptionally talented. I'm like super unqualified to review this piece of art but I'll give it a shot anyway. Writing Quality- If any reader, I repeat, any reader, has a complaint with the writing style, he/she is a dumbass. The book is thoroughly detailed, even pertaining to small things that other authors miss. Whether it be describing how the food tastes, or the armour Fenrir wears or what clothes the characters are wearing or describing the surroundings... you get it. The interactions flow out smooth too, I laughed and smiled so much whenever Jason teased his sibling or friends and I gushed like crazy whenever Alice did something... anything. She'll be breathing and I'll be like, "aww she's so cute." This is low-key a review about how cute Alice is and needs to be treasured, okay? Fight me hmph. There weren't much grammatical errors either, just some typos that grammarly failed to pick up (you rely too much on that, author.) The book will make you weep and smile... sometimes at the same time. I was literally in awe when I read about the symbolism with the sun or when the shapeshifter predicted Jason's curse. The book is extremely well written. Kudos to you author! Story Development- A lot happens in one day in this story. The pace is right, neither too fast nor too slow. And since the author has just finished 10% of his story, I'm eagerly waiting to see how this progresses in the future. SPOILERS AHEAD Character Design- The male lead is the most infuriating character you'll ever come across. He's a jerk, d******d, a*** etc etc (you get the point). I felt like strangling him so many times. His relationships are a mess. He doesn't know what he wants, and even if he does, he messes it up. It's all complicated and he says he's trying again and again but he's not. The only relationship he puts effort in is with Alice (so that's a plus). He's a good dad and he genuinely makes efforts to be good. As a brother... eh, he's equally good and bad. Who sleeps with someone when his sister is right next to him? (That's just fucking messed up.) He's very overprotective of Alina but I have to admit, he genuinely cares about her (a plus again). The characters I have absolutely no complain about are Alina (SHE'S AN EFFING QUEEN), Alice (aww, an angel), Michelle (I think all the girls who read your book would aspire to be her, her strength is commendable and you can't help but admire her), Katherine (A QUEEN again but since she's gonna have her own book I don't know whether I'll still like her so let's wait), Junco (<3) . I used to like Ava but then... (I have no words.). Okay now Jason's harem: Elizabeth- Don't like her, she raped Jason (red flag); Melanie- I couldn't have been more vocal about how I feel about her, she's a psychopath, a stalker, oversteps her boundaries (I don't understand why Jason feels attracted towards her but then he's attracted towards anyone who has a vagina), she has a traumatic past so she's kind towards orphans but then she was busy masturbating instead of saving those kids (the one she deeply cares about); Katelyn- I don't really care much about her, we haven't had much of her, she betrayed Jason but she had her own reasons so I'm cool with her and lastly Emily- I really really liked her in the beginning. She refused to show how she felt about Jason, had her insecurities but one day at the shopping mall, she just snapped and kind of became desperate? So I have mixed feelings about her, as the story progressed I like her less than I used to. Moreover, she deserves better than Jason. Ken, Raphael, Watson, Asami, Mapel are cool too. The villains in the story are well crafted. It's undeniably clear that the author has spent a lot of time in writing this story :) Updating Stability- Updates are constant, author updates twice or thrice every week undoubtedly. World Background- It's expanded amazingly well. No complaints at all. This story is a hidden gem and deserves much more reads, like at least a million+. But sadly, Webnovel only gives exposure to contracted works. Anyway, the book is about to reach half a million views, so congrats author. WELL DESERVED. I just have one suggestion that in the beginning of your story (in the first auxiliary chapter), you should mention that the auxiliary chapters are side chapters and should be read after they finish volume 1 because I myself know two people who straight away read the side chapters and then thought that your book had a lot of smut. Lastly, for any readers reading this, READ THIS BOOK. You won't be disappointed. Also, I forgot to mention the synopsis is DAMN, especially the warning at the end, made me laugh xD

A story with an interesting story arc with a dark and depressing undertone in it. Jason is an interesting protagonist to read, his backstory was dark and compelling but he kinda gave me that ‘guy-who-always-gets-the-ladies’ vibes. Jason has a personality, which some writers tend to forget to add. Alina took me a while to like, it’s probably because I found her POV a bit cliché but like Jason, she has personality and quirks. I’m actually curious if this is Harem or not, I lost count re-checking the tags just to see if it was a harem. The side characters were decent, I like how Michelle has a great personality, and usually, some writers ignore the side characters and don’t even bother making them real and relatable. I love the world-building, the writer took the time to make the story tangible and real. It was exciting and it made me want to ask for more. I was curious how the world works and I love every minute of it. The story does feel like a manuscript (especially reading Alina’s POV), it felt like I was reading a script. There were more dialogues than paragraphs. There were some parts it kind of feel like cheesy but I didn’t mind at all. The story is full of flashbacks, it sucks that Webnovel doesn’t have formatting styles here because I got confused when suddenly I’m reading a backstory without any warning. Some chapters were short, so it kind of threw me off, the story does have that ‘anime’ ambiance to it. I could visualize some scenes especially when it comes to reading Jason’s POV, which I’m totally happy about it since my mind usually takes a while to see the story. I love your cover! But I’m a graphic designer 𝐚𝐧𝐝 a font hoe. I couldn’t help myself but suggest, using a serif font because it makes the cover more elegant, serious, and formal. Condensed serif font would work. If you want I could suggest some fonts to use. Overall, this story is worth reading especially, if the reader is into anime and urban fantasy with immersive story arc.
