Chapter 1First Spring - prologue

Spring had dawned. Inigo had noticed this upon waking, the lush flowers now sprouting with glistening joy. The hustle outside of the market was loud enough, but was used as a wake up call. Inigo had opened the grand doors of the Daedricks household, the magnificent smell of paint floating in the air. The sun was warm and comforting, and soothed the dark mood that had gradually piled up during the cold months of the winter. Inigo put on his coat and his shiny, clean black leather shoes, and was ready to leap out of the doorway onto the patio, where the path led to the grand gates, when an arm grasped his.

'Good morning, Inigo. I don't think you are to go anywhere without your armband, don't you think?' A turned up, higher status voice said to him, clear as day. The butler, Adorn, had awoken early this morning knowing the keen nature of Inigo at the sight of first spring. He grabbed the armband from out of his pocket, so not to crease it, and gently pushed it up Inigo's arm. Adorn had a gentle texture to him, a soft personality with a use for cleaning and work. He adored the children, and would sometimes partake in a round of hide and seek, until he realised he was too old to bend down beneath the wardrobe, one of his childhood hiding places. Inigo waved goodbye and jumped forward into the world, the innocence of his childhood blooming like the petals of the spring. As he arrived at the gates of Daedrick Manor, he slid through the Inigo-sized hole in the gate and into the street, where the market was in full bloom. A Smokey and loud engined car chugged past him, leaving a trail of fumes that he coughed up in time. He had only just noticed the government blimp hanging among the clouds, like a kestrel stalking its prey. It's engine was echoing, and the clouds made the illusion that it was flying, but instead it sat there, monitoring every movement below. Walking on the cobbled streets of the city, Inigo checked upon every stall, and what deliciouses were being brought over from all over the world. Jewellery, watches, sweet rolls, pies, rice, to clothing and hats and scarfs. He was intrigued, and kept a keen eye on a necklace, the fully forged metal now twined into that of a dragon, tied onto the delicate weight of the chain. His eyes were fixated on its beauty, until warm breath touched his cheek. He looked up to see a stern face of a man, eyes blood-red, looking down upon him.

'That armband. Yer a dirty full mind en't yer. I ca' spot one from a mile away. You disgust me. Filthy scum!-' the man reached over, grabbing Inigo by the neck, and slamming him down onto the table of contents. Darting out of there quickly, Inigo reached the cobbles again. This wasn't the first time he had been called out for the armband, and it wouldn't be the last.

'Looky here, early rise, full minded ass wipe!' Another passer exclaimed, shrieking with laughter. Another woman, elegantly dressed in a pink corset and a long, towering dress, almost fainted with fright at the sight of the boy, before her husband threatened to bash his head against the water pipe. Spring, an ever blooming season, wasn't going to be any different to the winter.
