The disappointment of a devil

As the rain of magical energy subsided, the city below was saved from the Grimm's onslaught. Adam stood beside Rimuru, both silhouetted against the fading storm, remnants of Grimm dissolving into the air like vanquished shadows

After devouring all the magical energy released by the Grimm in the atmosphere, Adam couldn't help but wear a bright smile. His eyes sparkled with a mixture of excitement and accomplishment

"Adam, you seem very happy?" The slime girl tilted her head, her luminous eyes reflecting genuine curiosity.

"I'm indeed very happy. Aren't you also thrilled that you have two new energy sources?" he asked, a hint of playful enthusiasm in his voice.

Aura and magical energy—two entirely new sources, each specializing in the defense and manifestation of the soul, and the other in the manipulation of elements. The silver-haired boy, through the analytical prowess of [Great Sage] and the Alpha Stigma, had deduced their unique properties.

"Ah, I'm also very happy!" Rimuru smiled, her radiant expression showcasing her joy, though not as exuberant as her friend's

Feeling the emotions of the good slime through their deep link, Adam couldn't help but chuckle

She shouldn't have the [Gluttony] sub-skill [Devour], but.... This skill comes from the genes of the honkai beast Vishnu, and having given Rimuru a strand of his hair, the slime naturally obtained this ability, along with any other skill, ability, or power that is physical and is present in his body

Now, she possessed not only [Devour], but also Jean Grey's psionic power, the prowess of the Kaslana and Schariac family, draconic, devil, and perhaps even some high human powers

Sure, that potentially made her stronger than him, but.... Does Adam care? The answer is obviously no, he couldn't care less about that. In fact, it delighted him that his best friend (or maybe more) was so powerful.

Anyway, Adam isn't stingy with the people he cares about. Although he would be a bit miffed if someone he loved got stronger than him, he would also be very happy

... Why was he so against unlocking Rias' Aura? He pondered the question briefly- sure, it is an intimate thing, but Rias is very hot, and countless people had unlocked the Aura of someone of the same sex, so why the hesitation?

Adam sighed "Fine..."

"Yes!"

Rias exclaimed, her fist shooting in the air with excitement, her eyes sparkling.

Flying in front of her, he repeated the same process as the one he did with Rimuru- putting his hand on her shoulder, the other on his chest, as if reaching for his heart through his clothes.

"For it is through the inner self that we achieve growth. Through this, we acquire the knowledge to ascend beyond. Infinite in potential and unbound by limits-"

Looking directly into her bluish eyes, he chanted dully, her body starting to glow with the progressing chant.

"I release your soul, and by my will, unshackle-"

Adam snapped his hand back from her chest, a blackish-red Aura of Destruction briefly flickering around Rias before instantly fading away

This time, there was no intimate connection. Without the deep link he shared with Rimuru (or the use of soul abilities), Rias couldn't sense his soul touching hers and then retracting.

"Eh?" She voiced out, staring at her hands that briefly flickered with Aura

"What happened?" She looked at him with a questioning gaze.

"Sorry Rias" the silver-haired boy shook his head, appearing 'regretful' "But your soul seems….chaotic, so to say. Maybe it is because you were born a devil, or maybe it's because of your bloodline, but regardless, with your soul being so unstable, I can't unlock your Aura safely"

Silence enveloped the redhead. She hung her head low, as if trying to grasp the flickering glow of Aura that appeared briefly

"Oh…."

She finally replied, her voice hollow as a gloomy atmosphere enveloped her

"....."

Adam observed her depressed state with half-lidded eyes, not taking her negative emotions too seriously. Although not having Aura might be disappointing, it wouldn't be enough to discourage Rias. She was upset because she couldn't obtain a cool 'anime ability', and that alone saddened her.

Besides….who said that she can't have Aura? Although her soul is indeed chaotic as he said, the silver-haired boy can easily ignore that and unlock her Aura without her safety being compromised. The only reason he didn't unlock the redhead's Aura is because he wants to test a recent theory of his

"Hey! Now that we're done here, how about we visit this planet's strongest being?" The silver-haired boy announced to both his members, grabbing their attention. Rias looked over too, temporarily setting aside her disappointment.

"Eh? Really? Can we defeat her?" Rimuru asked from the side, concern lacing her voice.

Obviously, the slime girl was very strong. Maybe she didn't realize it, but she would easily overcome whatever she faced in this universe

... Maybe except for the brother gods, but those guys abandoned Remnant a long time ago. So there shouldn't be any concern about these two making an appearance

"Hah?! Isn't that too hasty? Shouldn't we rest first?!" Rias, who snapped out of her depressive phase, expressed concern with a worried expression.

Although still sad about not unlocking her Aura, she was more apprehensive about facing the so-called 'most powerful being' of this world…. even with his assurance

He waved his hand reassuringly "Don't worry, we are strong enough to handle her"

"Yes...but, why?"
