Harry was sitting in front of the car, looking through the car window, he didn't dare to open his mouth.
He had learned long ago from a great book that denial was always the best option!
The woman, on the other hand, was looking at him trying to act dumb, and said "You know that ignoring this would not make the situation better, right?"
Harry sighed in annoyance and still looking at the window, he said "What do you want me to tell you?" Honestly, it should be me asking questions, like why didn't a single wizard even come to my home to save me from that hell!".
Harry was now pretending to be the victim of what the book calls plan B.
If he couldn't ignore the problem, then blame it on another person! The better if that persona was a whole society!
He was actually feeling a little embarrassed, he knew that the reason why no one came to the Durdsley's was thanks to the wards, the woman, who he still didn't know her name, didn't know that, making her easy to manipulate.
The woman frowns a little and then sends a smile at him"Ho, please, then where did you find those cute slippers?"
'Fuck!' Harry, though, he was getting trapped at his own game!
Time for plan C, Harry started to tear up and looked at the woman while making his biggest sad face
"I-i don't know! I found them in the school garbage! WAAAAAAA!"Harry started wailing and crying.
The woman just looked at him with a death pan face and said "You are a little snake, don't you? I will warn you that I'm a Hufflepuff and married to a Slytherin! Also, the three-step plans for greater manipulators only work if the other person doesn't know about it".
"Tche!"
"Did you just Tch me?" Brat, stop acting, or I will spank you all the way to Atlantis!"
"Okey okey, what do you want to know? Also, it is true that I never met anyone magical, I made the slipper myself!"Seeing that it was rather pointless to escape from the conversation, he decided to go clean.
It is not as he was going to tell her that he was using wandless magic, so it was better to just say that he learned Runes. As for being trapped in the basement, he knew that there was actually a trunk in the basement, full of magical books; they were all from his mother, from the fourth year to the seventh. The only important thing inside the trunk was his mom's journal.
Thinking about it, he needed to grab it.
This time he was going to protect it, the last one had been burned after the ministry declared him a Dark Lord and attacked. The situation had destroyed any hope he had for the UK and decided to leave. Ironic enough, only ten years later they had come kneeling asking for forgiveness after the new Dark Lord appeared.
Harry shook his head, he was getting really melancholy lately, almost everything he looked at made him remember about the past, he might need to find a physiologist to help him.
Harry was looking at the woman driving, waiting for her to say anything.
The woman noticing his look shook his head and said this time a little angry, "I told you to stop acting. Who gave you the slippers and why did he not help you?"
Harry snorted in response and said "You speak as if I owe you an explanation or something"
The woman shouted at him "You owe me one! You are Harry Potter! The Boy who lived! You know how long people had been trying to find you!?"
"I owe you an explanation? You speak as if you were the one being hit for not cooking well enough! Or do you think that the scars on my back were made by myself!?"
The woman shook her head and stopped speaking.
Both of them were in silence until the car park in front of a big clothing store chain.
The woman looked at Harry and said "You know that people care about you, right?"
Harry asked: "Then where all of you were when I needed help?"
This question wasn't for his life on the Dursley's but more for when he was at Hogwarts, he had lived in danger for seven years, yet he had never had any adult to help him.
Seeing the woman in silence, Harry decided to give an olive branch, the question wasn't even for the people in this era.
"Okey okey, lest start over, I promise to answer what I want, but I won't answer what I don't want.
"Leave it or take it".
The woman nodded her head"OK, the first question. When do you find out about magic and how?"
Harry sighed and invented a quick but credible answer: "I was stopped by weirdly dressed strangers that shook my hand while saying 'Hooo Harry Potter!''.. A pleasure to meet you!' since I was four! This was normally followed by my aunt getting red in anger and me getting punished.
"First couple of times I would think that they were there thanks to my Freakishness, but after finding my mother's journals, I put two and two together, though I still don't know why I'm so famous.
This had actually happened to him a couple of times. Of course, by that time, he had not found the journal, making the situation more weird and scary.
The woman twitched his mouth, he could see that happening. Wizards were weird like that.
"Okey and what about the slippers? I'm sorry, but I can believe that a ten-year-old is an enchanter, you don't even have a wand!"
Harry sighs in annoyance, "I made it myself! I might not have a wand, but I have a normal engraving kit! That's enough for runes!"
The woman looked at Harry in horror and in a concerned voice said "Are you nuts! You could blow yourself up!"
Harry chuckled, it was really fun to see a woman hundred years younger than him trying to scold him. Still, he answered, "I had my mother's journals, and yes, they exploded, but I would tie myself full of pillows".
Again, he had said something true, but instead of doing it in her aunt's basement and so young, he did it at Hogwarts hidden from others.
The woman put an annoyed face and while tapping her finger on the steering wheel of the car, she said"Okey, whatever, I don't want to know anymore."The woman shook her head in denial and mumble "The bloody boy who lived experimenting with runes.
"Last question, what are you going to do now? Do you want me to tell the Aurors about your situation?"
"Aurors...They Are the police right?"
The woman chuckled "Yes they are like the police, so? What should I do?"
Harry frowned his face and asked back: "Why are you asking me?"
The woman looked at him with sad eyes and responded "You are mature enough for this decision, and you are going to Hogwarts in only three months, so yes, I'm asking you".
Harry looked at her with a surprised face and shook his head"I don't want to tell anybody, my whale of an uncle is in jail, and I don't need anything from my aunt"
The woman nodded her head. "I told you that people cared for you, I'm sure that there is a lot of family's that would adopt you willingly and..." Harry interrupted by snorting and annoyingly said "Good families?"
The woman was now thinking about the corruptions of the ministry and how many dark families there were free. He shook his head in response: "Okey, still you can have my personal phone to call me if you need something"
The woman reached for his purse and grabbed a small card that said [ Ava Ball, Social Service, number xxxxxx].
Harry grabbed the card and said "Thanks"
Harry actually means it, it was nice to have someone to back him up should he need it.
He still didn't trust her, he was after all Harry Potter, but he was powerful enough to just defend himself. He was not a hurt puppy anymore, and meeting with new people might be just what he needed to stop thinking of the past.
"Okey let's go to buy some new clothing for the little enchanter! What colour do you like more?"
Harry didn't know much about fashion, not about combining colours. Still, he answered "Green! It goes well with my eyes!"
Harry looks at Ava with a proud smile, making Ava laugh.
Harry left the shop four hours later with shaking legs and a pale face.
Meanwhile, Ava was smiling with his hand full of bags, "we only need to buy underwear! I know the perfect place!".
Harry grabbed Ava's legs and said "Mercy! Mercy! I beg you!"
Ava started to make a villains laugh "Wuahahahaha".
Harry left her legs and looked at the ground, there was no worst answer to the plight of the innocents than a villain laugher. The worst? It was a good laugh.
The day continued till seven afternoon.
Ava had shown a little mercy, and instead of getting more clothing, she showed him the store of his brother. A woodworking shop.
After explaining the situation to his brother, he could buy a lot of really nice wood. Not only that, but they had also given him a lot of wood scraps for free, and, showing a lot of care, they would also send the wood to his home. He would need to wait for the next day, but he was not impatient for it.
For Harry this was enough to transfigure all the furniture he would need for his room, making him really happy.
Ava noted the happy face of Harry and made a small smile.
For a moment she had even thought about telling the Aurors about him, maybe they could actually find a nice family for the little imp, still, she knew that it would be impossible. She could at least help Lily's son to have some calm days until his coming to the Magical world.
The moment she had seen him, she knew that it was Lily's son, still, she didn't say anything. It was not as they were friends or something. Still, anyone knew about Lily inside Hogwarts, she was that much of a social butterfly, and she had even helped her a couple of times while in school.
Thinking about Lily, Ava looked at Harry again, they both had the same temper and did not even start about how smart they were.
She knew that he would set everything into a storm, only ten years old and was already doing enchantment objects? She was looking forward to his future.
"Hey, Ava! Let go to eat some ice cream!"
Ava looked at him and said "It's time for supper already"
Harry pout at her: "We can eat ice-cream first?"
"mmm… favourite ice cream?"
"Chocolate-chip cookie dough!"
Ava nodded his head and walked towards the car "Good enough, let's go!"
Harry was back home.
It had been a little awkward to enter his aunt's house and greet his cousin.
Still, Harry saw that he was trying to send the greeting back. His aunt, on the other hand, was cooking and didn't say anything to him. He also didn't and instead decided to close himself in his room; he wanted to finish the project line before going to Hogwarts, and it would take a lot of time.
—————————————-
It was now July 24th, it had been a whole month since he had started his new life.
The biggest changes were his relationship with his aunt and cousin.
He was still at an arm's reach from his aunt, they didn't speak much, but Harry had tried long enough to find some topics to speak on, at least a little when eating. Still, it was almost an unspoken rule to never speak about magic or his sister to her. Not that he was going to.
His cousin on the other hand had changed, the short travel to jail had left a strong enough impression to take things seriously, he still had some episodes of tantrums, but they were quickly stopped by his aunt, who was scared shitless of Dudley going to jail.
He had changed enough that Harry could actually have some fun with him, and he had convinced his aunt to start boxing classes. His cousin really loved to punch things to the point that he was taking the diet seriously.
Harry still didn't show any magic to him, even if they changed for the better, he was still full of traumas from his past life, and he didn't think they deserve the gift that was magic. Maybe later in life after seeing if his cousin and aunt changed for good.
Someway in his new life, he had completely forgotten about Mrs Figg, and it was not until a whole week that she appeared looking for him to help her with the garden.
Harry swallowed the bitter pill that was a spy of Dumbledore's and went to her house without complaints.
In there Figg started to talk about the rumours that had been happening, especially about Vernon going to jail. Harry, of course, told her a more light-hearted version of it knowing that she would report it to the Dark Goat. He doubted that Dumbledore would do something about it, after all, he was only a month away from starting Hogwarts.
After that, his life had been pretty quiet, the most fun he had was going for ice cream with Ava and working on his mind palace upgrade.
Speaking of the upgrade, it was almost finished. It had taken a lot of effort and hours with his eyes closed, reading and researching, but having a new younger body and his magic stronger than ever made him rush to it.
Harry went to make some breakfasts for his aunt and cousin. He was still cooking and doing the garden, but the cleaning of the house was his aunt and cousin's work. They didn't have any money problem, even with Vernon in jail, the company that he worked for was from Petunia's family. She didn't know a single thing about it as it was an inheritance from the Evans family, it was practically run by itself, but the money was coming in, and that was the important thing.
While cooking, Harry was impatiently looking at the window.
After reviewing his past memories, he had noted all the important dates, and today was when his Hogwarts letter would arrive.
Still, thinking about the letter made Harry giddy, Hogwarts had been his home in his first years and last. He was looking forward to being there.
Harry was now eating breakfast, His aunt and cousin were also eating. He was getting a little annoyed that his letter wasn't coming. He even started to think that something happened, and it may not arrive.
The anxiety disappeared as fast as it came when Harry saw a brown owl with a letter on his leg fly towards the open window.
Harry got up from his table fast and ran towards the garden catching the owl in a hug.
His aunt seeing the owl open his eyes and pale a little, still she didn't say anything. Dudley was too preoccupied with his food to look at any other place.
The owl started to prick Harry's chest, making him yelp and drop the owl.
The owl hit the floor and sent an irritated hoot towards Harry.
Harry smiled warily and said "Sorry" After apologizing, he put his hand inside of his pant pocket and grabbed a couple of beacon pieces that he covered with napkins.
The owl seeing the bacon started to eat it while showing his foot at Harry.
Harry grabbed his letter, the letter was as in the same future, same colour, same smell, same typography. It didn't matter what year it had been, Hogwarts had never changed as if frozen in time.
Harry started to read the back of it noting the small but big change from his original letter:
[Mr. H. Potter.Room on the second floor. 4 Privet Drive. Little Whinging Surrey.]
Seeing this, Harry smiled and opened the letter. The first thing he saw was the name of Dumbledore followed by the dumb assortment of titles. Seeing this, Harry snorted, he knew that it was not necessary to write all those titles.
Harry shook his head and kept reading the letter. After finishing, he conjures a quill, ink, and started writing:
[My aunt had told me about the school, so I'm really happy to go there, the only problem is that I don't know where to buy my things, not how much money I need. -H.Potter]
He looked at the owl flying away with his letter, he was a little curious if Hagrid was also going to buy his things this time.
Thinking about Hagrid, he remembered about the Philosopher Stone, and with a sly smile he mumble "well, I'm sure that Fleur would love to study the stone".
He knew that he couldn't use it for immortality, but for gold? Being rich never hurt anybody, right?
Thinking about Fleur, Harry put his patented dumb face on.
He wanted to send a letter the moment he arrived, but he knew that it would be a little weird receiving a letter from an unknown. He needed to wait until the Triwizard tournament.
