Farming in Another World

Urgh. I want to get out of this job and buy some land for farming in my hometown.

I take a sip of my coffee and look out of my apartment.

My name is Terry Hwalar. I'm an office worker that works from eight to eight every day. My pa and ma have already passed away, and I live alone in this apartment. They did not die out of sickness or anything. They die peacefully in their sleep.

My ma was already in her early forties when she had me, and my father is in his mid forty. When I reached the age of twenty-seven, they were already old, and my father passed away that year. When I reached the age of thirty, my mother passed away.

After they passed away, the apartment felt empty, and I started focusing on my work. I can feel my body start to break from the repetitive activity. I need something new, and farming is just the right activity.

I always helped my parents with farming in my youth, but it stopped when they needed to sell their land for my college. When I get a good job, I tell my parents that I will buy back our home, but they keep saying that I should use that money for my future family.

Well, mom, dad. It looks like we get back our land.

I look at the certificate in my hand and smile a little. This is the land my parents owned in the past. Sadly, I only manage to buy the house and not the farm. This is because the current owner of the farm wanted to sell it to someone else.

*Ring* *Ring* *Ring*

I took out my phone and saw it was an unknown number. I pick up the phone and say.

"Hello? Who is this?"

"Is this mister Terry Hwalar?"

"That's me. Who is this?"

"I'm Felo and I'm someone who is willing to sell you some land that can be used for farming."

"Oh? Tell me more."

"Can we meet in person? I'm currently in a Tux Cafe and Diner."

"Oh? It was not too far away from where I lived. I will be there in five minutes."

It is weird that he is in the cafe near me. Is he one of the people my friend calls? I told my coworker and friend I wanted to buy some farmland, maybe because of that? Well, whatever.

I look to my left and see an older man sitting on one of the tables with two cups of coffee. I walk toward him and say.

"Mister Felo?"

"Yes! Come on, sit. Enjoy the coffee while it is still hot."

"Thank you."

I take a seat and look him right in the eyes.

"Sadly, I already drink some coffee when you call. I will reject the coffee."

"Shame. Shall we go to the business, then?"

"Of course. That would be appreciated."

"Very well. Truthfully, I want to give my land to you."

"Pardon me?"

"Well, let me show you something interesting."

Felo snapped his finger, and suddenly, we were no longer inside the cafe. Instead, we are in the middle of space! I can see the star, a meteor passing by, and even a weird light floating around us. It was beautiful and frightening at the same time.

"Where are we?! Where are you taking me?! Who are you?!"

I shout at the old man next to me while looking around in panic.

"For now, take a deep breath and calm down."

I look at him for a few seconds and take a deep breath. He is right. I need to calm down. After a few seconds, I can feel myself calming down, but there is still a sense of fear and panic in there.

"Good. First thing first, let me introduce myself. My name is Felo, well it was not my real name but it was the only thing that your tongue can pronounce. As for what I am? Well, you can call me a god if you want."

"A God, huh?"

"Yup. I know you did not trust there is a god but there is a god. Your planet also has a few of them. Sadly, their authority starts to disappear."

"Lack of worship?"

"No. Not worshiped. Believer. As long as you believe there is a god, they will continue to be alive. You did not need to worship them. You only need to truly believe that they exist and they will continue to exist."

"I see."

"Anyway, the reason why I call you here is to ask for help."

"You? Asking for help? You are a god. You can do anything."

The man shakes his head and says.

"Sadly, no."

He shook his head.

"God is not omnipotent and omnipresent. We have our limitations. We have our own law, you know? Since birth, this compulsion has shackled us from doing something that breaks the law from ancient times. For example, in my world…."

"Wait. Your world?"

"Ah, yeah. I forgot to tell you huh? I'm a god of another world. I'm a friend of Odin. You know him?"

"Odin? The chief god of Norse Mythology?"

"That's right. He still exists because a lot of people still believe he exists. Especially after he gets his hand on the media of your world. Do you know that any Odin-related movie is because of him? He did not directly intervene but he showed the writer a dream about his journey and they made a movie about him. Some of them were not really successful but he did not really need quality, he only needed quantity."

"I see. We, humans, are stupid, and by seeing the move some of us believe they exist."

"You are the one who says that, not me. Anyway, in my world, we cannot interfere with our planet directly or appoint a champion without them proving themselve first."

"However, you can take on a champion from another world. It was faster than seeing them pass the trial first."

"That is correct."

"How do you access this world, by the way? Can all gods do that?"

"No. I come here because of my friend, Odin. He has the title of a Wanderer, you know? He wandered around the universe in his prime days. He created a pathway between my world and yours that I can only access. However, the path slowly crumbled because Odin lost his power. This will be my last journey to this planet."

I nod my head. That means he is desperate.

"What do you want from me? I'm not a fighter, you know? I just want to have a peaceful life in the countryside."

"And that is the reason why I need your help."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"Let me tell you the situation first. My world is created by the Supreme God of our world. He created the world from scratch and watched it evolve just like yours. However, he gets bored and decides to create a being of light and a being of the dark. The beings of light are human, beastman, elf, and dwarf. The being of the dark is undead, devil, demon, and dragon."

"Let me guess, he wants them to fight each other."

"No. He did not make them fight each other. The Supreme God loves his creation too much for that. Anyway, after creating them, he is short in power and needs to rest. However, before he could rest, he created us, the God."

I nod my head and see him snap his finger once more. Then, I can see seven humanoid beings appear in front of me.

"The first child is Laena, the Goddess of Light and life. The second one is Teriz, the God of Darkness and Death. The third child is Veriz, the God of Fire and War. I'm the fourth child, the God of Earth and Plant. The fifth child is Tyra, the Goddess of Water and Magic. The sixth child is Yol, the God of Wind and Travel. The last child is Rlaniz, the Goddess of Lightning and Law."

I nod my head.

"Let me guess. When the supreme god goes to sleep Laena and Teriz decide to fight each other?"

"You nailed it in the head. They are the opposite of each other and they cannot stand each other. What makes matters worse, they have control over the creatures of light and darkness because of their domain. Teriz is the first one to make a move and order the devil, demon, and undead to attack the light creature. Laena did not have the destructive power of Teriz and decided to do something forbidden. She breaches space and time to summon a hero from another world."

"It was forbidden to do that?"

"Yes. The supreme god did not want to have war with other gods from the other planet. So far, there is not a problem but the last summoning is noticed by one of the gods of your world."

"She took someone from my earth?"

"Yes. They are the people from the Land of the Rising Sun."

"Japan got it."

"The Supreme Goddess of that country is angry and if not for Odin, she will take her army to storm into our world. We cannot take her on because she is one of the most powerful Goddesses in your world as she still has a believer and even a worshiper to this day. Her title of the Goddess of the Universe also did not help our cause."

"So you come here to appease her."

"Yes. I manage to appease her, and she will forgive my brother and sister for their transgression. It was not all my doing, if not for Odin, I will not be able to do that. I really need to make sure to give him something as a thank you."

"I see. So, what do you want me to do? I'm not a fighter."

"Ah, yes. I want you to farm."

"Pardon me?"

"Yes. I want you to farm. My world will soon get into war, I just know it. I don't want you to risk your life or anything. I want you to farm and sell your harvest to the market."

"Really? That?"

"Yes. The last great war between Laena and Teriz cost us more than forty million souls. It was not much compared to your world war on your planet but to us? It was a lot. We only have less than a billion souls. That is the one who loses their life in the war, not the aftermath. The dead keep rising because of famine and plague from all the bodies after the war."

Not much? That is a lot, even in our world. WW2 indeed cost us more than that, but it was still a lot.

"Anyway, I want you to farm and help with the famine."

"How? I'm just one person."

"That is why I will give you a boon!"

"What kind of boon?"

He smiles at me and says,

"Have you heard of the game Minecraft?"
