A western twist on a typical shounen action story. It's similar in premise and tone to stories like GATE with a splash of the 'kid gets marketable object/game/pet and starts saving the world/dueling other kids with it' genre, and a target audience between those two age groups. There are things the story will expect you to simply accept as part of the story set-up, but it is along the same lines as the conceits seen in your average story about a highschool age or younger child receiving an improbably dangerous and deadly device as if that's perfectly normal. In particular the early chapters are very confusing whose perspective you're following, but if this were adapted into a visual medium like a webtoon/manga/anime that wouldn't be a concern. It's comfortable in knowing exactly where it stands as a fun and violent teen-focused fantasy action story and doesn't try to masquerade as anything else. When faced with a chaotic and violent apocalypse, you can be assured the main characters will charge into the action and do their best every time, rather than run and hide. If a shounen-age demographic urban fantasy action story appeals to you, particularly with the added gacha gimmick explaining how each MC ends up with their unique power set, or if you like 'rage against the dying of the light' style apocalypse scenarios where the characters fight through the monsters themselves rather than running and hiding from the overwhelming and inexplicable forces, then you're likely to enjoy the story. In short, if you like your apocalypse invasion stories along the lines of Battle for LA and Edge of Tomorrow you will enjoy this story. If you prefer your apocalypse invasion stories along the lines of Cloverfield and Skyline, you will not likely find what you're looking for. I personally prefer somewhere in between and fell off the story eventually, but that's a good thing. The story is unapologetic about what it wants to be, and because of that if you like what you get at your first bite you can pretty much be assured you'll enjoy your last. Note that the story and its lore does expand significantly beyond the initial shock and awe of monster invasion apocalypse in later chapters, but the overall tone and style of the shounen action anime remains the same. Whether this is good or bad will depend entirely on what you want out of the story.
