A teen with messy brown hair and a tracksuit unexpectedly stood up on a bus. It was a good thing the bus stopped to fill up on fuel and to give the passengers a chance to take a breather. His eyes were wide, looking around at what had happened to him. Fear and surprise danced in his eyes until he could come to terms with what happened to him as he was back in the past somehow.
'Isn't this the bus I took that summer vacation from Sishui County to Chuzhou during my senior year of school?' Thinking the matters over, he didn't notice time slowing down in a way. The very physics of the Dimension warping even further around the "Returner" to his own past by some unfathomable power. 'Why am I here? Wasn't I enduring the Divine Retribution beforehand?'
This individual was the one known currently as Chen Fan or better known as the "Immortal" Sovereign of Beixuan in the future far away. Also known as Chen Beixuan. The former direct disciple of the Immortal Master of Apex Martial Arts, The Immortal of Cangqing.
He was taken away from Earth at the age of 30 and embarked on the road of Immortal Cultivation. His life on earth was far from good considering his own status and overall disposition of being unremarkable and a bit of a loser. If not for being taken away and having his life altered drastically, Chen Fan would have amounted to nothing really.
With great "Aptitude," he reached the Retribution Enduring Stage after only Five Hundred Years of Cultivation. Which is quite a feat it was said by several others knowing his late start and his bad start once he practiced.
Known as a peerless genius who was most likely to successfully detach from the Universe and ascend to the higher realms by many. Despite all his achievements he still failed to reach the higher levels due to the "Way of the Heart" failing him. He did not have a solid foundation apparently.
So much for high aptitude and the Immortal Master of Apex Martial Arts teaching methods.
The Inner Demon due to regrets burst free and ended him in one fell swoop. Only because of "Destiny" was he allowed to travel back in time. The same as every "other" like him did.
500+ years was not enough to shake off the personal matters so he needed more help!
"I have returned as a teenager to Earth!" Chen Fan gave himself a fist pump. Still not noticing of the environment changing around him. Feeling tired all of a sudden, he sat back down and looked out the window. His vision was slightly blurry but it was chalked up to the situation and his current physique. "I am more tired than I thought."
*Rip!* A hole was torn in the fabric of the Dimension just enough for another slip inside. A miniature Black and Gold hole appeared within that. It was the soul of Rexford. It plunges into the chest of Chen Fan ripping his "insides" apart. Everything about him was swallowed and taken inside before even an instant of resistance was allowed.
The emotions that were useless were turned into energy. Miscellaneous memories were scattered leaving only knowledge, such as key names, and what to look out for majorly through the next few years.
A little bit of the knowledge of a Champion was still in his mind after Destiny drilled several of the matters into him over the years and the incomprehensible travel between Dimensions.
"Haaaa." Sighing heavily, Rexford leaned back in the seat. Rummaging through the abundant different cultivation techniques available, he picked one to sharpen his mind fast. Using what he just obtained to fuel it, soul-wise that is. 'I need to keep everything fresh and secure! No way will I allow the others to remain scattered for long!'
The Eight Stages of Cultivation of this Dimension Primarily were as follows for the Qi users
Qi Condensation
Innate (Xiantian)
Core Formation (Golden Core)
Nascent Soul (Heavenly Monarch)
Spirit Severing (Divine Monarch)
Void Returning (Saint)
Way Fusion
Retribution Enduring...
As he thought this over, several people started to get back on the bus. Thinking about the other method of training and how the original Chen Fan ignored it, ticked him off a little. Power was power after all.
*Woosh!* More qi was pulled inside from the surroundings while the bus moved. The motion of the bus created Kinetic energy that could be absorbed but it was not as good as spirit energy. The quality was poor and muddy from carbon emissions.
The Black Gold Vortex inside him devoured it all the same. It cared not what energy it ate. As well as the waste and tainted attachment to the Kinetic Energy. The small output returned and passed through his meridians to boost his body that it so desperately needed.
Each passageway was cleared out of dregs. Instead of the excrement process that usually takes place from the expulsion of the pores, it was pulled towards the Black Gold Vortex. Energy left from the other passengers on the bus. Just small traces they wouldn't miss were taken as well slowly.
The anger and frustration were the largest energy taken away. The bus turned more tranquil for the remainder of the journey. Most of the people falling asleep. The driver was happy for the quiet. Focusing on driving more.
*Scrchh!* On top of his skin, microscopic lines formed. The Great Way of the Void Body Refining Arts was compiled with the other various methods to loosen the burden on the mind. Battling Immortal Art that the original Chen Fan used was mixed into it. Only a few techniques were kept separate inside his mind now.
The Great Way of the Void Battling Immortal was born. With lots of input from the Earth Rexford came from fighting styles he learned and viewed on tv , magazines, and while fighting for his life. Imitation and adapting was the highest form of flattery for fighters.
As the cultivation made changes to the body, Rexford's hair turned darker almost black from the brown he had naturally. His eyes which were once clear blue, now were gold with a black rim.
The Qi Refinement stage was easy to go through. It would take a few more hours before his body adjusted to the strain, however. The body of the original Chen Fan was basically garbage. He did not take care of himself at all it seemed.
Maybe early evening and he would be done and at the Foundation Establishment Stage once pushing it further. A few thought went to his adult body that was that of a.. businessman as he liked to call himself was missed.
Reaching in his pockets, a few snack bars were eaten. Eating them quickly the person across in a another set, noticed his hunger. They offered a few snack bars that they refused to eat themselves due to the taste.
"Thanks a lot. Should have eaten at the last stop." Rexford thank them kindly and went back to eating and cultivating. 'I just remember this muthafucker is broke as shit! I lost all my money coming here to this Dimension! Should have asked Destiny to wait a bit before sending me off! Not like it's stealing with it being my own hard-earned money!'
Mentally he cried tears of frustration. Countless jewels and gold sat in vaults wasted now. All the people that would inherit were children of his friends and those he invested in or would have to fight in court to claim some of it.
*Ring! Ring! Ring!* A cellphone vibrated a little in his pocket while going off. The caller id said, mom. Answering it, he let the woman talk her fill. Images of what the woman looked like formed in his mind.
"Xiao Fan, your aunt Tang is probably waiting for you outside the station. You must work hard in Chuzhou, okay?"
"I will do what I can, do not worry about me. Take care of yourself in Zhonghai first and foremost." Not feeling much for the woman the few memories painted her as a decent person. Not to extraordinary but nothing bad. Bit of a temper actually started to pop up from Chen Fan being a little shit as a kid. "I suggest looking into better security methods. The news reports are not good all over lately."
She spoke a few more words before the call was ended.
"Alright, take care. I have matters to attend to. Goodbye." Hanging up, he felt the bus come to a stop not much longer. "Well, this will be something." Tossing his bag over his shoulder, Rexford looked around for his pickup.
It was not hard to do as several people were staring at two people. One was an older woman with a lot of cleavage showing. For a mother with a daughter in the late teens, she looked better then most supermodels.
'Crazy Rich Asians have good bodies. Aww man, I am going to miss the new movie coming out about it. That sucks! My tv shows.. they exist here right?' Rexford was thinking about all the small joys he was about to miss out on. He hadn't pieced together yet he would be dealing with a lot of Crazy Rich Asians real soon. 'I need a better internet connection than the one on this shitty phone.'
The girl next to her, the daughter most likely was ok. She looked annoyed as she waved her hand back in forth for cool air.
"Mom, when will he arrive? How about giving him a call and hurrying him up?" The girl was unreasonable by all means. Her name was Jiang Churan, but most called her Ranran.
Calling would not speed the process up. The bus just arrived and she could have waited in the vehicle instead of creating a problem.
"What an impatient girl you are. It has only been ten minutes."
"Haa, whatever." She turned to the car to get inside. 'I've been in the sun for ten minutes, I planned to go to get coffee this afternoon.' Thinking about the arrangement her mother wanted, she was even angrier. 'Mom even wants to set us up. I bet he's a bumpkin, how can it even be possible?'
"Ms. Tang, sorry for keeping you waiting." Rexford introduced himself pleasantly. He would not call her aunty considering she was just to hot and it would feel off-putting. "The bus ran into some trouble while traveling."
They both got in the car. Ms. Tang driving. Rexford was on his phone going through mail and contacts. Nothing to major but a few spam emails were deleted. Uninstalled a few apps to help with the phone shitty processing. He started browsing the net a little since it worked a lot better outside of the bus as well.
'He hasn't given me a single look!' She thought upset. The causal way he sat in the seat irked her even more. 'Chen Fan... even his name says he should be in the friend zone. I think it best to keep it that way. The appearance he is ok but he is no overall match for Yang Chao and his friends.'
Seeing as Rexford and Ranran had not said a single word to each other, the mother felt that was not good.
"Xiao Fan, Ranran is going to be a senior like you. You should look after her at school."
"Haha, you are so funny." Rexford laughed. He did not plan on getting involved with this little... girl's life. She was very off-putting since he got in the car. "I am going to her school, so she should look after me normally. But I rather not ruin her senior year. Her friends are her friends and shouldn't have to associate with me due to this. It is quite rude to them if you think about it. How about we just stay our separate ways when at school. After all, I am here for education not to make friends with her friends."
"Oh! Nonsense." Ms.Tang felt a little awkward. On one hand, he was right on another as an adult she wanted him to make friends with her daughter's friends.
"No, I insist. If not, maybe it best I stay somewhere else." It was not a question but a statement. Rexford gave a smile that was not a smile to them both. "I do not want to interfere with her school life that will then cause problems in your mother-daughter relationship. If I need to be rude I will be Ms.Tang. I assure you I am quite good at it."
Being a jerk and forceful had it's ways. Especially when people try to maneuver a situation you did not want. Even if it was for good intentions.
"I doubt that happens." Ms.Tang looked at him in the rearview mirror. The resolute look he gave her was a little cold. And she could see restrained anger by the way his fist clenched a little. 'Oh, dear. Did I misjudge little Chen? He is really upset by this.'
"Ranran, I will only come to you if I need some serious help. Like where is the library and which way is the fastest way to the lunchroom." He gave her a forced smile while relaxing a little. A little more understanding of cultivation expanding his mind. "It is best to not bother you and your friends unnecessarily. Don't want to mess with your image and whatnot."
"That's sounds good to me. I will make sure you know the fastest way there." Ranran was happy he did not want to bother her really. She missed the exchange between her mother and him by a few glances. But if he was insistent she would not resist this arrangement. 'Here I thought he would ask me for help on things. This is a big win!'
The ten was happy her overall living situation would not change.
"Let's go to your apartment first to drop off the luggage then we can go for lunch at my house." Mrs. Tang would take the time to message Mrs.Chen right quickly before getting out. Rexford only showed mild interest in the place while moving.
"The Lakeside Community is near the Yangui Lake, it boasts very beautiful scenery," Ranran said like a guide. She had come to the place a few times with friends to party. "It's pretty close to Ivy High School to. About 15 minutes walking I think."
"Nice." Rexford had his bag in hand walking towards the building. "At least it shouldn't be loud." Ms.Tang finished on her phone and walked to catch up. 'Heels... better to look good than comfort, how crazy.' Looking back he couldn't help but think about the bothersome things that were slowly fading out of style back home. Well.. except for special dinner occasions and strip clubs. The average woman hated the things more and more as the media shifted more.
Once inside, she took over explanations from her daughter.
"There are three bedrooms and one sitting room in this apartment. How are the decorations to you?" The few messages she got from his mother didn't give any real insight. A small smile made her feel better about the decorations that he had. "Just live here comfortably and study hard, Don't worry about the rent."
"Well thanks, I hope you don't regret saying that later." Tossing the bag near the bed he looked back at them both. Looking between the daughter and mother. Duo amazed at the different dispositions. "Thank you for arranging this for me. I will make sure to pay you back some way soon."
"Your mother trusted you with me, so I'll look after you as my own son!" The strong gaze he gave her, made a bit of a blush creep up. It looked like a hungry beast. Coming from a "young" man it was flattering. "Do not worry about paying us back. Just make sure to pass your courses."
The air was turning a little hot. Mrs.Tang grabbed his hand and sped walked off.
"What was that?" Ranran frowned. No way was something going on between them. Considering they just met again. The last time he was a few years ago that is just weird to think that. 'They get along so well so quickly. I don't like this.'
The drive back had a lot of talking this time. Ranran joining every now and then. Rexford asking where the busy place were and the boring ones were.
