In The Wrong Hood? (I)

~~One Year Later~~

*beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*

I groaned loudly as I turned over in my bed and glared at the bed on top of me… I already disliked the kid occupying the top bed and now he was simply giving me more reasons to dislike him even more. "Can you turn off that blasted alarm clock of yours?" I growled and a few seconds later the alarm finally turned off. "Thank you" I griped unhappily as I turned toward the wall.

Moments later, I heard him climb down the bed and the first thing he did after that was to open the window to let the sunlight in… Even though I was turned toward the wall, I felt my temper rise at his inconsiderate actions. Goddamnit man, I am trying to sleep here you selfish prick. "Can you please not do that?" I asked as I slowly turned around and glared at the boy.

"Not everyone is born as lucky as you, some need to work hard" The boy answered without looking in my direction as he was busy rummaging through his books.

It is not my fault that you were born with a Quirk which is considered weak. Yeah, I could understand where you are coming from, but we are roommates, you need to consider my feelings too, right? This is how much life has been for the past year, but not everything was bad. Thanks to all my suffering I have managed to learn how to keep my temper in check.

Hah… I breathed out tiredly as I slowly climbed out of my bed. Since I was already up, I decided to put the extra hours to some good use. After finishing my morning rituals, I quickly put on my workout clothes and decided to go out to complete my daily workout routine. I jogged out of the building and started to run around inside the premises.

Since I was only 5 years old, I wasn't allowed to go outside, but that was not a problem. At least not for me… I wasn't the only one who was doing morning workouts as some kids were already finishing up their runs by the time I started. While I have made quite a significant improvement in anger management and physical training in the past year, I haven't made any progress with my Quirk since we weren't allowed to use our Quirk inside the orphanage.

Quirks related to fire were especially forbidden in the orphanage so it was impossible for me to experiment with my Quirk. The only place I had some privacy inside the orphanage was my room, but if I tried to use my Quirk inside the room, then my roommate was going to happily tattle to the matrons.

"Care for a race?" Hojo asked as he caught up to me, but I shook my head with a smile. Even though I was not a part of his group, we were on pretty good terms. Hojo respected anyone with a strong Quirk, even Kurome, but he hated her ideals and that was why they clashed.

"I would lose 10 out of 10 times" I answered, making him chuckle, but he wasn't displeased or anything. His Quirk is called Multiplier and it allows him to boost any physical parameter of his body, but he can only boost one parameter at a time. In a race, he would simply need to boost his agility and he would win.

"Then how about you join me in the workout session?" He asked and this time I didn't refuse, but then all of a sudden, his face darkened. I followed his line of sight only to find him staring at Kurome. "Tsk… I can't believe her. She should be training instead of mingling with those weaklings" Hojo clicked his tongue as he muttered in displeasure.

I am not even a supremacist, but I agree with him… Kurome is simply wasting her time with them. They would be lucky if they managed to get into a Hero school with their Quirks, considering if all schools are as strict as UA with their selection… I can understand that she cares about them, but she needs to be realistic. Regardless of what the adults want us to believe, the world is not sunshine and roses.

"Ignore them" I said as I decided not to waste my time with them.

"...Yeah" Hojo agreed with a displeased look on his face. "I just hate it when someone wastes their potential" Hojo shook his head with a disappointed look on his face. We were orphans so if we wanted to succeed in life, then becoming a Hero was our only option, but with more than 80 percent of the population being Quirk holders, the competition was extremely stiff.

"Leave her be… She is only 5, she has a lot of time to reflect on her choices" I pointed out as we continued to run. Hojo didn't look pleased, but he nodded his head in understanding before he too decided to drop the matter, even though quite reluctantly…

~~POV Narrator~~

"Hello, my name is Adachi Ren and this is my wife, Adachi Mai, my wife was the one who talked with you on the phone?" A handsome-looking man in his thirties introduced himself before introducing his wife. When he introduced his wife, a look of recognition finally flashed over the head matron's face and she smiled at the duo.

"Of course, of course, I remember. Please come in" The head matron invited the duo inside the orphanage. The matron led the duo to her office so that they could finally begin their discussion away from any prying ears. "So, you two want to adopt a child, right? Such an amazing decision" The matron beamed with a smile on her face.

"Yes… We got married a couple of years ago and just like any other couple we also wanted to have a child of our own, but we soon realized that-" Ren stopped talking as he glanced toward his wife.

"I can't have a child" Mai completed in his place, looking miserable.

"I am sorry for you, my dear" The matron could sympathize with them. Adopting a child was a noble cause and she could understand their pain.

"It is alright…" Mai quickly waved her hand in the air dismissing the concern.

"So, can we meet the children?" Ren asked, barely holding back his excitement.

"Yes, you can as soon as we get the background verification out of the way. Have you brought the appropriate documents with you?" The matron asked and the man quickly opened the file in his hand and handed it over to the matron…
