6 Heart of Glass

"It's beautiful out tonight, isn't it Inu?" Kaya asked the Sacred Gear as she stood on top of an abandoned Roman bell tower.

The sun still burned brightly in the sky as Kaya began to worry about sunburns due to her naturally pale skin. No matter how much time she spent in the sun it never seemed to tan in any way.. doesn't mean that sunburns weren't a problem though. Kaya pouted at the reminder of rubbing aloe cream Inugami stole on her sunburns a few weeks ago.

The wolfhound rested it's head on Kaya's lap as she patted it's soft fur, "I suppose," he stated.

"I was wondering about earlier.. when you said the old woman running the diner was suspicious. What did you mean?" Kaya asked curiously.

The wolfhound twitched slightly before speaking telepathically in Kaya's mind. "You know that I'm a Longinus correct?"

"Well yeah.. duh." Kaya said.

"What are Longinus capable of?" Inugami continued.

"Killing Gods." Kaya said as her prefect memory began to come into play from her time in her families library. She read some about the power of a Longinus but never about a Longinus itself as most pure-blooded devils aren't capable of wielding a Sacred Gear. Except her, as she was a hybrid.

Inugami bobbed his head, "Those two.. one of them was very VERY close to being a God. The woman.. she felt more like a spirit, but the man in the kitchen... he was a God. I don't know which but he was one." The wolfhound stated.

Kaya bobbed her head as she began to ask some basic questions that she didn't find in her families books. "What are some of the Longinus other than you?"

"Well.. I suppose their are quite a few. Annihilation Maker, Boosted Gear, Divine Dividing, Zenith Tempest, Dimension Lost, etc. I could go on naming a few more but you get the idea." Inugami said to the young half-devil.

"Hey.. Inugami. Is it possible to.. take Sacred Gears?" Kaya said with a ice-like tone.

"Yes.. why?" Inu asked with a small amount of worry for the tone she was using.

"You won't leave me right?" Kaya asked with fear.

"No. I wouldn't if I could. Honestly, you probably have the most potential out of anyone else in this generation of users. As a hybrid you have the learning speed of a human with your family trait.. you'll be a powerhouse after a decade or so. Or at least, as long as you don't pull out any more surprises on me." Inugami ranted to the girl in order to soothe her worries.

Kaya let out a sigh of relief as she felt all the tension in her body melt. Pulling the ghost plushie towards her face she plopped onto the back of her Sacred Gear's avatar.

"So.. can we go to that theme park today then?!" Kaya asked the wolf as she bounced up and down in excitement.

Inugami let out a small laughter that resembled a series of barks before walking in the direction of the mentioned theme park. "I guess we could. You haven't had a break in a few days."

...

(One theme park later)

Kaya could be seen skipping out of the theme park entrance with a spool of cotton candy and slightly frazzled brownish-red hair and a still pristine ghost plush.

"That was so much fun!!" Kaya exclaimed to her Sacred Gear whom was watching from inside her mind.

"Hmmm.. I am almost certain you were scammed by that man running the booth. Should we find him and Tҽαɾ σϝϝ ԋιʂ ʅιɱႦʂ? *Cough* Ask for our money back?" Inugami asked as his voice distorted even more before going back to normal.

"Nah! We're ok! What should we ha-" Kaya said before stopping in front of an embroidery.

"Huh? Why did we stop?" Inugami asked the small girl.

Kaya said nothing as she walked into the store where three old ladies were knitting yarn together. One was tall, one short, and one average height. They wore the same bleached cotton dresses that did not complement their wrinkly leather-like skin. All three where knitting an extra large sock together.

Inugami began to growl the closer Kaya walked towards the old ladies as he prepared to start a war in Kaya's defense.

Once Kaya was standing in front of the three old ladies, Kaya's eyes began to shine as a foreign concept swirled around the three. With a rush of information a completely foreign concept appeared inside her head. 'The inevitable and unavoidable. A concept based purely on the belief that there is a fixed natural order behind all the events in the universe.' Kaya thought as the name of the concept eluded her once she began to think about it.

As Kaya was lost in her own world, Inugami's growl intensified as the old ladies reached for her. After a few tense minutes, Inugami's head materialized as his jaw snapped towards the old ladies hands on for him to stop in his tracks.. willingly.

Instead of grabbing for Kaya, they reached for the ghost plushie. Their bleached white cotton dresses brushed against Kaya's skin causing her to shiver uncontrollably. Their old, scraggly white hair floated behind them as they began to knit a something at the bottom of the plushie. Inugami watched with slight shock and a large amount of relief that they didn't harm his holder.

After the finished altering the ghost plushie they put it back in Kaya's still frozen hands and continued making socks. Kaya began to mechanically walk out of the store with dull eyes as Inugami's floating body follower her.

Standing on the street which was barren of life, Kaya's dull eyes lit up. A minor migraine bloomed in her head as she lightly clutched her forehead.

"Ow. ow ow ow." Kaya muttered.

Inugami worriedly tapped his paws against the ground as he intensely watched Kaya. "How do you feel?" He asked hurriedly. Although he can 'sense' her condition he can't predict the mental damage the old ladies could have caused.

"My head hurts." Kaya said as a thorn of pain brushed her head.

"Well that's better than I thought," Inugami whispered low enough for Kaya not to hear. "We need to go." Inugami said as he picked up Kaya by the back of her shirt and tossed her onto his back.

"We can't stay here! Those hags being there..! Nothing makes fucking sense anymore! I won't let you die here!" Inugami's distorted voice rang out.

"No swearing!" Kaya said with a pout before another pang of pain shot through her head.

Inugami didn't respond as he barreled through the empty streets at full speed. The wind brushed past the duo as Kaya's waist-length hair cascaded in the wind. Buildings blurred as the world became monochrome. Reality began to shift as the Kaya began to cling tighter and tighter to Inugami.

As Inugami built up speed and barreled through the streets as monsters of the dark were left behind. Hydras, basilisks, draconae, hellhounds, and skeletal dragons were left in the dust as the two ran.

"KAYA! DISTRACT THEM!" Inugami yelled as he began to rapidly teleport away from the incoming spears and projectiles.

Kaya immediately began to create earth spears coated in fire. Water swirled as localized hurricanes took form. The earth began to shake as fire shot from the cracks forming in the earth.

"I'M RUNNING OUT OF MY RESERVES!" Kaya yelled as sweat began to trail down he forehead.

Hellhounds knawed at Inugami's feet only for black and red spears to penetrate their skull from the wolfhound's shadow. A hydra head slammed into Inugami's side, sending Kaya flying in its wake. Landing against a concrete wall with a crunch, Kaya's vision began to fade.

As monsters began to surround the girl her body dissolved into shadows as she and Inugami appeared a few buildings down.

"𝔉𝔞𝔱𝔢," A voice whispered in Kaya's ear causing her to involuntarily shudder.

"KEEP GOING! DON'T STOP FIRING!" Kaya heard Inugami yell.

Looking behind her, the monsters numbers were cut in half from her previous attacks. "𝕯𝖔𝖔𝖒," she whispered as she felt her remaining reserves vanish.

All the monsters stopped in their tracks as they saw the scariest creation of their short lives.

Black and red swirled as fire raged. The earth under the monsters disappeared, as if it was never there in the first place. A myriad collection of blades appeared as all hell began to break loose. Chains of shadows binded the monsters as the blades lodged into them. Blood soared as fire began to incinerate and erase any sign of their existence.

A few seconds later, Kaya passed out on Inugami's back. She dropped her ghost plushie on the ground as she slipped into unconsciousness.

Inscribed into the tip of the bottom part of the plushie, a name was embroidered.
