Chapter 11

Chapter 18: Echoes of the Fallen

The night had descended upon the Cosmodrome, and the moon's gentle glow cast elongated shadows upon the land. Odin and Freya stood in a secluded part of the Cosmodrome, inspecting the two new weapons he had acquired from the fallen enemies he had recently encountered.

From the Fallen Captain in charge of a sector near the Rocketyard, Odin had acquired a hand cannon reminiscent of a Golden Age 1836 Colt Revolver. It had been adapted and retrofitted to the current time, making it a formidable replacement for his now-broken Arc Blaster. Odin had stowed the blaster in Freya's inventory, keeping it as a memorable artifact of his journey.

The other weapon, acquired from a lone, one-eyed Fallen Vandal perched atop a tower, was a dark, sleek-barreled high-impact sniper rifle. This rifle had a unique design with a cylindrical pipe-like end to the barrel, almost like a suppressor. However, it did not reduce the sound but nearly silenced it. The scope was equipped with an advanced scanner that highlighted targets in its view. Odin marveled at how these advanced weapons had ended up in the hands of the Fallen, but he knew they were now in better hands—his own.

As the night settled in and the moon's glow hung above, Odin stealthily made his way toward the Breach, the entrance to the old Wall. The forest was illuminated by the moonlight, casting an otherworldly glow on the surrounding trees. Nearly an hour of stealthy movement brought him to the entrance, but he was met with a patrol of Fallen led by a Captain.

Odin's new sniper rifle, "Still Death," was at the ready. He positioned himself for a clear shot and picked off four of the targets one by one. The advanced scope highlighted their presence, and his precise shots ensured they wouldn't pose a threat.

With the magazine depleted, he quickly reloaded the sniper rifle, marveling at how the suppressor-like attachment nearly silenced the shots. It was a weapon that would serve him well in his journey.

As Odin ventured to the entrance and disposed of the remaining Fallen with his new Handcannon, his holstered "Still Death" on his back. The Captain was the next and last to fall, his chieftain robes and many scars a testament to his ferocity and strength among his kin.

Odin had decided to call his hand cannon "Omertosa" as he reloaded it, a name that conveyed the silent, deadly nature of the weapon. He had already come to rely on the weapon's precision and power, and it had become an extension of his will.

A solar grenade hurled towards the hiding place of the Captain forced him out into the open. Odin seized the moment and shot the Captain dead with a single, well-placed shot from Omertosa.

Looting the defeated enemies, Odin prepared to push open the heavy metal door leading into the old Wall. The entrance hall stretched before him, an industrial chamber with towering walls and the sense of a forgotten history.

Odin moved warily towards the middle of the chamber, but it felt too empty, too quiet. The ominous clicking sounds of Fallen chittering began to echo through the chamber, and the silence was shattered.

The Guardians' Ghost, Freya, hovered nearby, her blue eye scanning the surroundings. Odin had come prepared for a fight, but the uncertainty of what lay ahead was ever-present. The memories of the battles he had fought and the challenges he had overcome were his strength and determination.

The fallen foes were drawn by the presence of a Guardian, and Odin knew he would have to face their onslaught. The echoing chamber was about to become the stage for another clash of light and darkness, and Odin was ready to face the challenge head-on.

The Fallen would learn that the light of the Traveler's chosen could not be extinguished, and the Cosmodrome's old Wall would bear witness to the eternal struggle between the forces of good and evil.
