Chapter 68

As soon as Zack reached the first floor of the stone tower, he found what looked like a communal bedroom, with a dozen bunk beds. When he saw them, he realized that they were crafted with very poor materials and that a few people were actually getting up from them, as the noise from the ground floor had woken them.

Before they could do anything, a few of Zack's men threw a few spells at them.

Firebolts and lightning bolts flew through the room, impacting the cultists that had yet to understand what was happening.

Without losing even a second, Zack made a few signs to his group, so a few of them inspected the room to see if anyone was hiding or if they could find something useful, while at the same time, he continued climbing through the next ladders that were on the opposite side of the room.

On the next floor, he found what looked like another bedroom with more bunk beds, but this time, as soon as his head peaked out, a small black firebolt suddenly flew directly towards the end of the ladders.

Thanks to his newly upgraded sea of consciousness, he managed to feel the spell flying toward him, and with one hand, he threw a lightning bolt that clashed with the fire and annihilated it.

While his spell was flying, he jumped off of the ladder and quickly searched across the room, trying to find what had tried to attack him.

"I found you." He said while smiling as he saw someone's feet sprouting from under a bed.

With a quick movement, he dashed toward the bed and chopped it in two with his long sword.

Blood splashed all over the area around the bed, including the lower part of his pants, but he stayed calm over this fact and continued looking around the room. Zack had been fighting to the death for years at that point, so even if he usually had a happy and goofy character, he was completely desensitized to this kind of thing.

In the next moments, a few of his men arrived in the room, and a skirmish started between both sides.

Because of the noise that they made on the first floor, the cultists on the second were ready to fight as soon as Zack and his group arrived, and they began to use the furniture around the room as cover so they wouldn't get hit by his enemies.

Sadly for them, the strength gap between both groups was too big, and Zack's group had been working for years, so their teamwork was impeccable, so in a few minutes, they saw themselves getting annihilated, as every few seconds, another group member managed to reach the floor, making the gap between them even bigger.

Like in the previous room, Zack ordered his men to search around it before climbing toward the next one.

If his calculus was right, that should have been the last floor of the tower. That was confirmed when he found what looked like a storage room filled with wooden boxes.

He approached one of them and opened it, and found out that there were different kinds of animal sources inside it. He continued looking around, but most of them had what looked like the loot they got from hunting in the area around the tower or different daily life objects like blankets, spoons, or clothing.

After seeing those things, he remembered that that group had been forced to migrate to that area after losing most of their people, so it made sense that they didn't have anything especially valuable.

Even so, he ordered his men to search through the room just in case there was something useful in the middle of those things.

Seeing that he had reached the top floor and had yet to meet the boss of the cult or anyone that could face him, Zack began to descend as fast as he could toward the ground floor while leaving his men behind to look for anything useful for them.

"What? You are already back? Did something happen? " One of his men asked concernedly as soon as he saw him climbing down the ladder.

" It happened that his people were weak as hell. If they weren't wearing cultist clothes and I could sense the corruption on their bodies, I would have thought that they were simple hunters trying to make a living in this swamp. " Zack said while bursting into laughter before a more serious expression appeared on his face." Even though they are weak, we have yet to find the cult leader, so be careful. Confidence is the biggest weakness a warrior could have."

With that said, he neared the descending ladder and began to climb it down carefully, as he didn't know what he would find on the lower floors of the tower.

I'm back, my dudes.

I hope you like the chapter and that you have been well these past few days.

See you tomorrow for another chapter.
