Lost Bet

"Learning again today? When are you gonna enjoy life like every other college student does?" Tom asked with pity in his eyes

"Not this again Tom, you know I couldn't pull a chick even if my life depended on it, so I gotta at least hustle for my degree" Eric said smiling wryly

Both walked along a wide path leading to an enormous building, the prestigious Leaf Academy. Only the best of the best could ever hope to set foot into one of the lectures and from those only the truly gifted had a chance to graduate.

On their way to the main hall many people greeted Tom, whilst ignoring Eric.

"Seems like you grow in popularity by the minute, wish I could say the same for myself" Eric said dejectedly

"I just really enjoy the company of others and somehow everyone I meet is nice to me, except Amy. She seems like a woman who's only focused on academics, just like you, but unlike you she won't even talk to me for a minute." Tom answered

"Really? Amy and I had some nice conversations whilst working on some group projects and she didn't seem cold to me." Eric said with a confused look on his face

Entering the main hall over one thousand students could be seen standing orderly and looking the pedestal, where a tall woman with jet black hair stood having a stoic expression. Wearing the colleges uniform that accentuates her curvy body she stood as straight as a arrow. This woman was Amy, the top performing student privileged to hold the annual speech before the beginning of another year.

The clock hit 12 and at that moment Amys microphone activated. Even though one thousand students were gathered in one place there was absolute silence.

"Dear Students, last year was especially hard on all of us. Many failed, few had the will to fight through all these exams, but still the ones who stand before me are the elite of our generation, the future leaders, innovators and most important driven. My only hope is that as many as possible keep up, so that we can make the world a better place together! With this... Let's give our best in this year again!"

"Yeah!!" The hall erupted with applause and cheers

"Look, Amy is a nice person, she isn't as cold as you think." Eric said with a smug look

"Well then it seems she only gives you the time of the day, because no other student is able to approach her and is able to walk away without crying" Tom said in a sad tone.

"Anyway ignoring your blatant exaggeration, classes aren't gonna start until Friday, so I'll find a quiet place and study." Eric said moving towards the exit on his way to the library

"Hold on, did you think about the party tomorrow? You'll be there right?" Tom asked

"Ermm, I'd really like to go but-"

"No buts, this is the 5th time you're dodging social events. When will you find a girl if you hide behind your books?!" Tom said concerned for his friend

"Tom..."

"Ok, I've got a better idea. I'll get you a date this instant and you're gonna go to the party alright?" Tom said with a devilish smile

"Umm... Sure? If you can find anybody who'd like a chubby, nerdy boy like me"

--- 5 minutes later

"Now there are no excuses, see you tomorrow at the party!" Tom shouted jogging to his bus station

"Well shit... "
