Chapter 17: The Night She Didn't Want to End

Katie’s POV

“Thank you for tonight,” I said.

I had to strain my neck slightly. Somewhere along the way on our walk, I had slipped off my stilettos, much to Arrow’s protest and grumbling about the dirty Chicago sidewalks. But my feet and wine-addled mind didn’t really care.

We had ditched Mi Amore, leaving the skeleton staff, to walk the short distance to the waterfront. As we leaned against the railing, I noticed this late at night the hub was destitute, making us two of the few humans there.

“It’s late. We should get you home,” Arrow replied.

He rubbed delicious circles on my lower back, holding me captivated by his dark eyes. I found every single excuse I could to extend this moment. I refused to participate in Arrow’s attempts of being a gentleman and ending the evening at a decent hour. Fully aware that he was only being conscientious that I had to work in the morning, I was still rebelling against time, willing it to slow down.

“But I don’t want to,” I whispered.
