When he came out of the cave, the first thing Arias became aware of was the hot weather. The sun was blasting and hurting his eyes, and he had to blink several times to get used to it. The atmosphere outside was quite different from inside the cave.
There wasn’t any demon near the exit. There was only a forest full of lifeless trees with dark brown bark and dry grass that died from drought. The forest was so quiet that it felt strangely eerie. Only once in a while would you hear small insects making high-pitched noises.
“The reason why no demon has sneaked into the cave through the opening in the ceiling isn’t because they’re afraid of deep holes, but it’s because there’s hardly any demon living in this part of the forest.”
From the inside of the cave, the exit looked like a hole that was too high up to reach. But if you looked from the ground above, the entrance would seem like a deep hole that could instantly kill you if you fell down.
