The day he'd given to surrender went ignored, but the day after it was the sudden presence of Hegemony aircraft from five different nations allowed him to move swiftly, coming to within 200 kilometers of Mt. Dakun in the first three days before his ground forces were forced to halt.
Bad weather and Colonel Riel's good foresight meant that the final stretch to Mt. Dakun was heavily fortified with trenches dug into the forests. Pre-sighted artillery rained hell from well-defended positions on the highland ridges. Within 50 kilometers of the base, the anti-air defenses were so thick that an entire Prisian dive-bomber squadron was knocked out of the sky on a run against the cleft.
