[RINZLER]
What would happen if the roles were reversed?
What if, he walks down the aisle instead and Marina would be the one waiting for him at the sacred place where alphas accept each other?
Rinzler saw everyone's faces shining. His father's proud look. Savannah was on the verge of tears as she watched him. The mating process. The accepting speech. Later, they would ride off into the sunset.
"Yes," Rinzler mumbled.
*
Fully dressed and ready to leave, Rinzler bobbed his head with excitement all over his face, "I will make that happen, if not me, then someone else. I must see that before I catch my last breath and join the ones in the land of the dead."
One thing was for sure, the man had a lot of plans and honestly, he was too eager to see them happen.
Rinzler practically skipped out of the room, there was no one in the corridor. Nothing would dampen his mood. Even if they told him the beasts were around the corner planning to attack. He would approach them with profound energy and fight them till they die.
Out of nowhere, Savannah appeared, "Rinzler. What have they done to you?" Savannah asked as she walked beside Rinzler.
"Nothing, I am in a hurry to tell dad I am leaving, then I leave." He draped his hand over his sister and asked, "sister, are you happy?"
"You are weird today." Muttered Savannah.
Rinzler jumped in front of her and stated, "I am serious."
Savannah took a step back and staggered in the process. She felt like a deer caught in the headlights. But comes rain comes sunshine, she wasn't going to make things worse for her brother by telling him she was sad.
"Happiness." She mumbled.
"Talk to me. I am so sorry I have focused on myself lately that I haven't asked you." Rinzler paused when a she-wolf stood where they were. The she-wolf said, "Alpha Rinzler, give the Mountain Pack my condolences."
As soon as the words left the wolf's mouth, she stopped talking, and her eyes widened.
Rinzler placed a hand on her shoulder and said, "what I said to you I meant it."
By that, Rinzler meant the fact that he asked everyone to speak to him just as they spoke to him before he became the alpha. He didn't want anyone to be frightened at his sight. No.
"Okay." The wolf half-whispered and left.
"Jeez! That was fun to watch." Savannah commented as she grabbed Rinzler's hand. "Do you want to race?"
"You say the word girl." Said Rinzler. Savannah let go of Rinzler's hand and sprinted to the end of the hall. She watched as Savannah ran, "and here she said I am the weird one." He thought. "You cheated," Rinzler stated when he arrived where she was.
"Hush," Savannah said.
Rinzler shut his eyes, "yeah, sorry. How are you?"
The question disappointed her, she didn't expect him to ask her again. She muttered, "let us focus on you going to the Fishers Pack. Frankly, we have acted as people who are not mourning."
A fake sadness swept all over Rinzler's face. He whispered, "you are right."
For a moment there, he let his guards down and forgot that he should be sad. Who would blame him? "I was serious when I said I want us to go watch the sunset soon, Savannah."
"I know." Said Savannah.
"And promise, when I return, you will tell me what is going on with you," Rinzler said. After Savannah nodded in agreement, he pulled her into a tight embrace and brushed her hair down.
A contented sigh escaped Savannah's lips, she would give everything to stay there, in the safety of her brother's arms. She closed her eyes and listened to his heartbeat. It thumbed softly; it mesmerized her. "Your heart."
Rinzler chuckled, "yes, you are in my heart."
Savannah rolled her eyes playfully. Rinzler stood there with his sister, she needed the hug most. He didn't have any miracle worker to tell him.
"Should I join?" Beta Tetra asked.
"No, uncle." Said Savannah but she was too late, Beta Tetra engulfed the siblings in a hug. He kissed their foreheads and said, "my family."
"Rinzler." Alpha Aspen called from the office.
"Coming." Rinzler responded.
"Uncle, you can let go now," Savannah mumbled.
"No, I want to stay here. Forever."
Rinzler cleared his throat and pushed his uncle slightly, "gotta go, dear uncle."
"Okay. Come here, Savannah."
"Rinzler, help me." Said Savannah with a mocked pleading. She pulled away, cupped Rinzler's face with her palm, and said softly, "I hope that helped."
Rinzler gave her a confused look.
Savannah let her hands drop and continued, "the boats are ready. We are loading the meals to it."
"Thank you, sister." He turned around and walked into the office. Immediately after his father saw him, he went to the point, "you go there and come back in one piece, son."
"What is he talking about?" Rinzler's heard his wolf asking.
"I have no idea, but keep calm. Relax. Be still my heart." Rinzler thought.
"Does he know you are sick?" His wolf inquired.
Shit! That wouldn't do anyone any good.
"Please don't let it be it." He thought as he listened to his father telling him what he wanted him to tell Fisher's family. He didn't want to think about the possibility of his father knowing he was sick.
Alpha Aspen paused, he could hear his son's heartbeat skyrocketing, thinking it was because he mentioned Marina's name, Rinzler's father climbed down from his chair and embraced his son. "Hey, get your heart in check. I could practically hear it from the lake."
"Woah." That was the only thing that he could think of.
He pulled away from his father and said, "dad, I am okay."
**Thirty minutes later.**
"Are we all ready?" Alpha Rinzler asked the wolves with him in the boat.
They nodded in unison.
"Good." He said and started the boat.
"Rinzler, wait," Savannah called as she sprinted towards them.
Rinzler looked up, hoping his sister wasn't there to tell him she was accompanying him.
Savannah motioned for him to go where she was, he smiled apologetically to the wolves and climbed down.
"Yes?"
"Alpha wants to see you. Something about the lake."
Rinzler sighed frustratedly and got his phone out. Instead of texting Bedelia and informing her that he was going to be late, he added a text to the long thread of unsent messages to his mate.
He composed, "my mate, my heart. I am sorry I missed last month's visit. Are you on your way home?"
