Born in 1937

On November 10, 1937, a boy named Gene was born in Oklahoma, at his house. A cry could be heard amongst the house. His six siblings were around him, smiling. "Isn't he handsome?" Dortha asked. "Yes, he is" Julius said, looking down at his 7th child. Julius then wrapped him in a towel. But they could only imagine the adventures that lies ahead.

But as soon as he got cleaned. Dortha's sister, Ethel, had to take him. Gene's mother suffered from Diphtheria. So, Gene's aunt had to take him, as the family was aware of the sickness, as Gene's brother, Julius, died from Diphtheria. Ethel kept Gene and his siblings until Gene was 3 months old. Because of the pregnancy, she got more ill.

When Dortha got better, Gene and his six oldest siblings came back. But ever since that day, his oldest siblings would have to take care of the youngest siblings. His mother would pick cotton off of the stock. But as soon as Gene turned 5 year olds, he started helping. He would have to drag a large bag around. They were full of thorns, so his fingers would be bleeding. But as soon as the bag was full, he would have to put the bag into a wagon. That was how they made money.
