The newcomer Sheyan was of course given the bed closest to the toilet. Actually, there was no bed. It was just the ground.
So what happened to his bed? It was in use by others.
The cell was so small, and the men who were placed in it were normally big and muscular. If they slept according to the designated 8-person arrangement, none of them would be able to straighten their legs. Even if they could, the part below the knee would be suspended in mid air without support.
It was naturally a terribly uncomfortable way to sleep.
So, the few inmates who were the first to arrive would oppress the newcomers. In order to stretch their legs comfortably when they sleep, they would force the last two who joined the cell to sleep on the ground. That was Sheyan's current predicament.
