Chapter 8

The book's first few pages were an introduction, written in a tone that somehow felt conversational.

Merlin seemed to have a knack for explaining complex concepts in simple ways.

"Magic,"the first chapter began, "is a gift that few truly understand. For all my achievements and the accolades that hail me as a great mage, even I know only a fraction of its mysteries."

He described magic as an omnipresent force, woven into the very fabric of this world, yet accessible to only a select few.

"In ancient times," Merlin wrote, "commanding magic was a formidable task, requiring not only innate talent but unwavering dedication.I devised methods to use magic with the help of focuses and using set commands and patterns to make it easy to use.

Though I was sucessful but I also worry that mages of future would only rely on this to learn magic and forget the roots of with which our use of magic is based on.

Three Pillars of MagicWillFocus, and Energy.

Will: The raw desire to bring about change. Magic without intent was directionless.

Focus: The ability to refine and direct the will into a precise form. This was where most spells fell short if not properly trained.

Energy: The power source, which could be drawn from within or channeled from surroundings.

After that he delved more into magical theory and the evolution of magic before and after his time.

He gave some examples of the old magics with which some mages could summon natural disasters as well.

While the new ways of the magic are easy and safer to use they have also lost some sence of the wonder that the mystical force of magic used to have.

The chapter ended with some other words written that showed while Merlin did not regret his invention of his form of magic he still hoped to leave some form of legacy of the ways of magic that might be forgotten by many in the future.

I didn't know how this book had ended up at Hogwarts but I wasn't complaining about it.

With this I could learn not only about the new magic but can also start with some form of experimenting to form a magic that I truly wanted.

I closed the book and kept it with me. While it was said in books that things can't be taken out of the room, I think that was more for things that were conjured by the room not things that were real.

To avoid suspicion, I changed the book's title to appear as my Charms textbook.

That way, even if someone saw it, they wouldn't think much of it. I planned to spend considerable time studying its contents.

While I wanted to spend some more time to learn more about magic now wasn't the time as I had already spent considerable time in this room.

With that I started to go out of the room , I checked outside to see if anyone was here.

The cost was clear and so I opened the door and went outside.

I stepped out, and as expected, the door disappeared behind me, leaving only a blank stretch of wall.

With that I went back to the common room.

There I found Hermione in one her usual spot near the fireplace snuggled up reading one of her books.

I pulled another chair towards her and spent some time with her as she read one of her book while I also opted to read my book of transfiguration as I thought it was pretty versatile art of magic.

Hermione glanced at me, her questioning expression suggesting she found my sudden dedication unusual.

"I figured," I said, answering her question, "with the tournament coming up, it wouldn't hurt to be prepared."

She nodded approvingly but said nothing, her attention soon returning to her own book.

Hermione eventually closed her book with a satisfied sigh, stretching her arms. "It's good to see you taking things seriously, Harry. The tasks ahead aren't going to be easy."

I nodded, a small smirk tugging at my lips. "Preparation is the key, right? Besides, I've got a lot more to learn than I thought."

She raised an eyebrow but smiled. "Well, if you ever need help, you know where to find me."

"Thanks, Hermione. I'll keep that in mind."

Time slipped by unnoticed until the fireplace looked to be at its last legs.

With a reluctant sigh, I closed the book and tucked it away. I had learned some of the more advanced form of transfiguration that we were going to perform in this year.

Because of the essence boosting my learning ability, I could fly through books that would have taken me long time to read and understand before .

Now as long as I read it, I could understand and perform the magic that was shown in these books.

It was pretty fascinating to me how much I could use Transfiguration in battle, and its potential seemed endless, especially when I could cast even permanent Transfiguration easily.

I got up from my chair from the now empty common room and started to go toward my room to get some much needed sleep.

Today has been a very productive day I had not only tested my self but also found a stable method to grow stronger quickly.

I applied some silence charm to my shoes while entering the room so as not to wake any of my roommates up as it was pretty late into the night.

I quietly slipped into the bed while casting a charm in the direction of Ron to stop his snores from affecting my sleep.

Other than the more powerful effects of magic in battle, making everyday things more convenient also seemed to be a good direction to study.

With random thoughts filling my head, I quickly fell asleep, dreaming of using my magic to summon thunderstorms and tornadoes.
