Russell felt a wave of satisfaction as he surveyed his newly mastered Vishanti Holy Sword spell. It was the perfect blend of long-range power and devastating close-range precision—almost unstoppable. When he'd swung the sword earlier, it had sliced through the air with barely any resistance.
Pity, he thought. If Spider-Man hadn't reacted so quickly, his head would have rolled.
But it didn't matter. The fight was as good as over, and victory was within reach.
With a twist of his wrist, Russell hurled the Holy Sword of Flame like a javelin. Spider-Man, despite the loss of an arm, instinctively rolled aside, evading the attack. He spun on his feet, raising his wrist, and shot a barrage of sticky spider webs at Russell like a storm.
"Wow, an upgraded Amazing Spider-Man," Russell muttered, rolling his eyes as he raised his arm. He didn't dodge; instead, he summoned golden spell lines to form a shield over his arm.
[Spell-Weapon Construction!]
The dozen or so webs splattered harmlessly against his magical shield. But Russell knew this was a distraction—Spider-Man's true strike came from above. In the reflection of his shield, he saw Spider-Man descending from the air, fist drawn back, ready to deliver a powerful blow.
"Let's see how you cast spells now!" Spider-Man roared, his fist homing in on Russell.
But as he swung, a chill crept up his spine. Spider-sense? At this range? Impossible! His eyes flared with frustration and confusion. There was no way Russell could pose a threat so close—he wouldn't have time to counter with a spell.
Absolutely impossible!
Fueled by rage and desperation, Spider-Man poured every ounce of strength into his punch. But as he swung, he noticed Russell's eyes. They glowed with a molten gold light, and Russell's chest subtly swelled.
Suddenly, with a burst of fiery energy, Russell expelled a flaming projectile from his mouth—a flaming meteor launched at point-blank range.
Thud!
Spider-Man fell hard, clutching his throat, his eyes reflecting a mixture of disbelief, regret, and anger. Russell dismissed his magical shield with a wave and chuckled to himself. That spell hurts the tongue, but it works.
He looked down at Spider-Man, who lay on the ground, gasping for air. Smiling with satisfaction, he remarked, "You and Mordo—quite the pair. You even have the same defeated look in your eyes."
Russell sneered. "If you'd fought me from the beginning, you might have had a chance. But you ran. You're the weakest, most cowardly Spider-Man I've ever faced."
Peter's face twisted, blood foaming at his lips as he choked out, "You… don't… know what Spider-Man's terrain is! Go to hell!"
With that, his neck wound opened wider, blood pouring out as he slumped to the ground, lifeless.
Russell sighed, forgiving Peter's final rude words. At that moment, a pleasant chime echoed in his ears:
[Plunder entry complete!]
[Spider Totem! (Purple Gold): The source of all Spider-Man's powers across the multiverse.]
Russell read through the entry with growing delight.
Super Strength: A punch can exert 25 tons of force.Agility: Enhanced flexibility and speed for performing incredible feats.Environmental Perception: Insight into nearby objects' positions, shapes, and movement—ideal for navigating tricky environments.Climbing: Ability to scale any surface with non-zero friction.Spider-Sense: Intuition for sensing danger and malice in the environment.
A grin crept across his face. Spider-Man's power was rooted in magic? Even better than expected! The totem's perks—strength, agility, spider-sense—would blend perfectly with his other powers.
The system continued:
[Spider Silk (Blue): Physiological rejection, mutation…]
[Magic Spider Silk (Mutation): A magical variant of spider silk, emitted from enchanted wrist marks, with doubled toughness and controllable dissipation.]
Russell immediately activated the entry. Small, black-and-purple totem marks appeared on his wrists, instinctively guiding his control over the new power. He aimed his right hand, and with a thought, a dark purple strand of spider silk shot out, sticking firmly to a boulder on the riverbank. Russell tugged, dislodging the massive rock with ease before releasing the web, watching it dissipate without a trace.
"Perfect!" Russell marveled. No weird holes on my body—just magic spider silk, refined and potent!
He imagined the possibilities, thinking the webbing might even serve in casting intricate web-based magic arrays in the future.
But his daydreams were interrupted by a harsh alert from the system:
[Warning! The 'Morlun Family' across the multiverse is hunting all beings with spider totems!]
