EDWINA 

Not long after I had managed to convince Harriet and Juliette that I could handle things on my own, the doorbell rang.

 I knew my friends wanted to stay, and as much as I wanted them to, as much as I needed their company, I also knew it was only a matter of time before either Kieran or Orion would come looking for me. 

 And, no matter how much I feared the confrontation, I needed to face them alone. I owed it to myself—and to the secret I had kept for so long.

I took a deep breath, the air sharp in my lungs, and walked to the door. 

My pulse quickened as I reached for the knob, the cold metal biting into my palm. It was either Kieran or Orion on the other side. Whoever it was, the conversation we were about to have was not going to be an easy one. The doorbell rang again, this time with a desperate urgency that made my heart skip several beats.
