Chapter 75: Glass

In the blink of an eye, the agreed time arrived.

On Sunday afternoon, Eisen left Hogwarts early after lunch and made his way to Hogsmeade.

It's said that Hogsmeade Village was established quite early, nearly at the same time as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Back then, a wizard named Hengis settled near the school to escape Muggle persecution. Over time, as more wizards gathered, Hogsmeade Village was founded.

By now, Hogsmeade had become England's only all-wizarding village, free from Muggle interference. Due to its proximity, Hogwarts professors and students often enjoy spending time there, including regulars like Dumbledore and Hagrid. However, first and second-year students are restricted from visiting Hogsmeade, and even third-year students need a guardian's signature to go on select Saturdays.

To Eisen, this rule seemed odd. After all, what significant difference exists between a second-year and a third-year wizard? Yet third-years can visit Hogsmeade. And the guardian's signature requirement—what's that about? Are they worried about accidents?

Eisen didn't fully understand the reason and wasn't especially interested in exploring it. Yet, despite his familiarity with Hogsmeade, he hadn't had a proper look around. So, with some time to spare, he decided to explore the village.

Walking through the main street, he spotted the Devis-Bans store at the far end. His curiosity piqued, Eisen went inside without a second thought.

Once inside, Eisen found that the magical items in this shop were beyond his expectations, even more surprising than the wares at the Wiserek Magic Supply store in Diagon Alley. The shop carried repair tools, magical props, and equipment, including items for Quidditch like memory balls, looking glasses, and anti-demon glasses.

As Eisen browsed the fascinating assortment of magical objects, he had a feeling he could collect dozens of unique magical items just by exploring the shop—artifacts that might be enhanced by Goldfinger's abilities.

Suddenly, Eisen felt a twinge of doubt. Did he really need to put so much effort into studying alchemy? For a moment, he questioned himself. But then he remembered the observation mirror he'd created, a magical item that offered perfect observation traits. Yes, it was worth pursuing alchemy further; after all, knowledge truly belongs to you once learned. With this thought, Eisen felt at ease again.

"Hi, can I help you find something?" Seeing Eisen's contemplative expression, the shop owner approached him.

"Oh, I'm just browsing," Eisen replied, regaining focus and picking up a speculum for closer inspection.

Because he hadn't unlocked the miraculous trait yet, Eisen couldn't immediately tell what qualities this speculum might hold, though he did have some knowledge about it. The looking glass, as it's called, can detect suspicious individuals or the presence of dark magic. It rotates, lights up, and emits an alarm when threats are near.

Yet, Eisen found the design incomplete. If it can detect suspicious characters, why not mark them directly? Eisen mused that if he made one, he'd add this feature, enhancing the looking glass's early warning function.

Was it a question of balance? Perhaps, Eisen thought, the effect was left weaker on purpose. After all, a truly powerful looking glass could expose secrets early, preventing many dark deeds. If such an item were common, wizards might even develop spells or items to block it.

Eisen's musings brought a faint smile. When he considered the Marauder's Map's ability to display people's names, he couldn't help feeling it was too unscientific. Could the map identify names if someone changed theirs? How does that even work?

A name is just a title given post-birth. How does it link to a person? Maybe it's related to the idea that knowing a name enables curses. If so, the logic could make sense. Still, the sheer idealism of magic in this world gave Eisen a headache.

By now, Eisen had come to believe the Harry Potter books avoided certain "bugs" in the plot—concepts that could disrupt events or unbalance the storyline. For example, a more powerful looking glass might have prevented Peter Pettigrew from hiding in Ron's home or even allowed Harry's parents to escape Voldemort. But if such tools existed, the plot couldn't unfold as intended.

But Eisen was no longer a mere observer. This was his reality now, and any advantage was welcome.

"Boss, I'll take this speculum!" Eisen said, a look of anticipation on his face.

So far, Eisen had crafted the observation mirror and modified a tape recorder. His next project was an enhanced version of the looking glass. However, his intentions were starting to shift. Previously, he'd kept a low profile, avoiding plot disruptions to stay unnoticed. He hadn't interfered with Voldemort's diary's control over Ginny, for instance.

Yet, as his abilities grew, so did his ideas. The observation mirror he'd created, for example, could allow Harry to uncover certain secrets during his nightly excursions, possibly even revealing the truth of things earlier.

If he could make his enhanced looking glass and give it to Dumbledore, it could greatly aid in tracking Voldemort, though handling the Horcruxes would still be necessary. Eisen was even working with Dumbledore on an enhanced Apparition skill that could significantly bolster Dumbledore's agility and strength.

At that thought, Eisen couldn't help but smirk. He realized that, despite his desire to remain a low-profile professor, his mere presence had already begun to alter this world in subtle but significant ways.
