"You what?!"
Adrian jumped from his seat and hurried downstairs. He quietly observed who Jay was shouting at when he felt a small hand on him, turning around he sees Manny with the same mindset as him.
They both crept down the stairs and into hid behind the wall, peering into living room where Jay, Gloria and.. Mitchell?
"What's Mitchell doing here?" Manny whispered.
Adrian shrugged. They both quieted, listening intently.
"Jay it's okay." Mum's voice cuts in.
"It isn't this idiot-" Jay says angrily pointing at Mitchell who looked apologetic, "why did you think this was a good idea Mitchell?"
"She asked" Mitchell mumbles.
"Oh so if DeeDee asks you to jump off the bridge you will?" Jay hisses.
"Well of course not- I mean it she has a valid reason maybe?"
"I can't with this kid" Jay mutters angrily spinning around and going towards the bar, when he noticed two familiar faces. "Adrian, Manny, what are you two doing here?"
Now that they've been found out, Adrian says, "We heard shouting. What's going on? Why is Mitchell here?"
The adults all exchange uncomfortable looks.
Gloria speaks first, "Mitchell invited DeeDee, Jay's ex wife to the wedding."
"What?!" Manny screeches, "wait- does that mean we can invite dad?"
"I'd rather not." Gloria frowns.
"In my defence, I didn't think she would accept." Mitchell adds.
"Some lawyer you are." Jay mutters, pouring himself some scotch.
Adrian asks, "so how did the conversation go exactly?"
"Oh well, mum was calling me telling me about her new spiritual journey as she usually does- did you know she invested-"
"Just cut to the chase" Jay growls.
"Yes- she asked about dad, so I told her you were getting married soon."
"Why on earth would you tell her that?" Adrian asks.
"She asked, anyways she asked about the preparation, I told her that dinner will be at the hotel and then she asked to come along- so I said yes"
"What is DeeDee thinking?" Jay sipped his cup.
"Did you want me to take back the invitation?" Mitchell asks nervously.
"Yes." Jay says at the same time of Gloria's "No, let her come."
Jay looks at her suprised.
"I want to show her how happy you are." Gloria continues, a glint of something malicious in her eye.
"Okay good, because I do not want to have that talk with her." Mitchell sighs in relief. "Well would you look at the time, I just came to tell you that and I have a huge case…"
"Just go already" Jay waves his hand and Mitchell hurries out.
…
"Wake up! Wake up! We're late!" Gloria pushes the bedroom door open and screams, Adrian jumps out of the bed.
"Wha- what time is it?!" He squints at the alarm clock, "mum it's 5 am? What do you mean we're late?"
"Exactly we should of been up at 4."
"Mum the wedding is at 10." Manny appears from behind her, rubbing his eyes. "I know I said I needed plenty of time to get ready but this is too early…"
"Mum, where's Jay?" Adrian asks.
"Downstairs, get ready we leave at 8."
Manny groans while Adrian goes downstairs. Approaching the kitchen he glances at Jay sleeping on the couch and chuckles.
..
The wedding and vows itself was located at near the mountains, with flowers decorating the venue and the whole place was extravagant, showcasing Jay's wealth and love for his new wife.
Once the vows were completed, the party consisting of close friends and family moved to the hotel, already fully decorated with eggshell coloured napkins. Sitting on the "kids" table consisting of Haley, Alex, Luke, Manny and a random kids, Adrian peeked over towards the Jay and Gloria as they made their rounds. That was when he noticed an older woman saying something to Gloria, who looked annoyed and Jay who looked angry. Standing next to the lady is Mitchell looking apologetic and Claire looking uncomfortable.
Standing up, Adrian decides to go see what's up.
Getting closer he can hear the lady, DeeDee slurring her words as she rattled on and on about nonsensical things. Gloria decided to leave at that point and turned around, only for DeeDee to grab onto the dress and lunge at her. Gloria yelped and Adrian ran closer. Mitchell and Phil pulled DeeDee away as Jay covered Gloria.
"Mum! Are you okay?" Adrian moved closer, allowing his body to block DeeDee's view of his mother.
"Si I'm okay papi" Gloria chuckled, fixing her hair.
"Adrian look after your mother, I have some… things to take care of." Jay passes Gloria over as he stormed towards the door.
Adrian can see DeeDee clutching onto the entrance door and making a fuss as the surrounding people watch on, curious. The kids laughing and Manny approaching them.
"Mama!" Manny shouted. "Are you okay?" He kept looking over towards the crowd.
"Yes Manny"
"Mum let's move you over to the seats." Adrian frowned.
"Ay I'm not an old lady, I'll be okay!" She waved them away. "The night is just starting!" She said over her shoulder as she walked away and into the crowd.
Adrian and Manny exchanged worried looks before chasing after her.
The event ended with DeeDee being chased away (but everyone just said she was drunk and needed to rest)
…
"It's a bit late, but did you two want to change your last name?" Gloria asked on their drive home. The street lights illuminating the dark road.
"Why would we?" Manny asked, head bopping up and down as he tried to stay awake.
"Well, now that I am married I will be Gloria Pritchett."
"I don't mind changing" Adrian chimed in.
"Easy for you to say" Manny mumbled, "you don't like dad"
Adrian shrugs, "that's true, so will I be Adrian Pritchett?"
"You'll be Adrian Delgado Pritchett." Jay says, not turning away from the road.
"Oh, yeah that sounds good" Adrian nods.
"If you're so insistent on getting rid of the Delgado last name we can go through with that…" Jay gives him a quick glance.
"Nah that's okay." Adrian says. "But yeah, I don't mind having your last name as well"
"I guess I don't mind too." Manny adds.
"Good!" Gloria claps her hands. "I get the forms tomorrow."
"We're going on our honeymoon tomorrow."
"I get the forms when we get back!"
