"Why?" Layla asked, genuinely surprised.

Lucius shrugged slightly. "Dad didn't say much over the phone. We'll find out when we get there," he replied. Then, glancing at her with curiosity, he asked, "How did things go with your father?"

Layla sighed. "He wants me to see my mother. I think… a lot has come unraveled at home since the truth surfaced."

Lucius nodded thoughtfully. "In that case, should we go to your place first?"

She shook her head. "No, I'm not ready for that just yet," she replied firmly. "Besides, your father called me specifically, so I think it's best we see him first."

"Sure, then," Lucius agreed, and together they set off for the old De Salvo family mansion.
