Chapter 189: Orochimaru’s Sharingan Experience

The Mangekyō Sharingan—the name itself suggests it holds a special significance.

That's because each person's Mangekyō comes with its own unique abilities!

Uchiha Akira's eyes were no exception, each harboring a different power.

The left eye's technique was called Extraction.

The power of this technique was simple: it randomly extracts a particular ability from the target. This could include ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, secret techniques, and even Kekkei Genkai.

Earlier, during the battle at the arena, Akira had successfully extracted Obito's Kamui, which allowed him to use the phasing ability.

That's how Akira managed to grab Obito's throat, even when Obito was supposed to be intangible. Obito's body hadn't actually turned into a ghost; he'd simply shifted into a different dimension, leaving only his projection in the real world.

But since Akira had also extracted Kamui, both of them existed in the same dimension. That's why Akira was able to grab him.

However, the Extraction ability had a few limitations.

First, the extracted ability was temporary, not permanent. The stronger the chakra, the longer the ability could be maintained.

For someone newly reaching the Kage level, they might only be able to maintain it for a few minutes. But for Akira, in his normal state, he could hold on to the ability for about half an hour. And if he activated Sage Mode, he could extend that to nearly an hour.

For the duration of a typical battle, that's more than enough.

Second, the cooldown time for the ability was extremely short—just a few breaths. This allowed Akira to extract abilities repeatedly, improving his chances of pulling something useful.

Lastly, the ability could only hold one extracted technique at a time.

In other words, when Akira extracted a second ability, the first one would automatically be replaced.

This technique was powerful, sure—but the randomness made it unpredictable.

On the other hand, what if he extracted something truly overpowered? And since the cooldown was short, Akira could keep trying until he got something useful.

All in all, this ability felt a bit like gambling. It could be incredibly strong, but not always reliable.

That was the nature of Akira's left eye technique—Extraction.

As for the right eye, its power was the complete opposite. This eye granted the ability to Bestow.

In simple terms, Bestow allowed Akira to temporarily grant one of his abilities—whether it was ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, secret techniques, or even Kekkei Genkai—to someone else.

Unlike Extraction, which copied the ability without affecting the original user, Bestow transferred the ability. For instance, if Akira granted someone Lightning Blade, he would lose the ability to use it until he took it back.

Another key difference was that Bestow was stable. While Extraction was random, Bestow allowed Akira to choose exactly what he wanted to give.

This consistency was something Akira found incredibly valuable.

For example, when Hinata was in danger earlier and both Akira and Tanshin Hime were blocked, what if Akira had been able to grant her the Eight Gates?

She wouldn't even need to open the Eighth Gate—just the Seventh Gate would have been enough for her to hold her ground, maybe even defeat Kisame.

Or what if he'd given her Shisui's Body Flicker Technique? She could've escaped without any trouble.

So, Bestow was incredibly useful, especially in critical moments.

In a fight, being able to grant someone Body Flicker, the Sharingan, the Eight Gates, or even Sage Mode could produce astonishing results.

In short, Akira was very pleased with the two abilities his Mangekyō had given him.

They made his fighting style far more diverse and unpredictable.

It was like playing an online game and suddenly getting a powerful ability from another player. If that ability happened to synergize with your own, the result could be game-changing.

And on the flip side, being able to grant one of your skills to someone else was equally game-breaking.

As he mentally explored the many potential uses for his new techniques, countless strategies and ideas began to surface in Akira's mind.

What if he granted Itachi the Eight Gates? A berserk Itachi would be terrifying to behold!

Or what if he gave the Eight Gates to someone who had been reanimated with Edo Tensei? Wouldn't that make them practically unstoppable?

Imagine giving Shisui's Body Flicker Technique to Tsunade—hundreds of Tsunades darting around the battlefield, each punch as powerful as an S-rank technique.

What if he granted the Sharingan to Orochimaru? With his obsession with the Sharingan, even a temporary experience would probably drive him wild with excitement.

These eye techniques could be incredibly practical in the right situations!

Of course, Extraction had its merits too.

Maybe someday Akira would get the chance to try out the Flying Thunder God, Shinra Tensei, Chibaku Tensei, or even the Tengai Shinsei!

Now that would be something.

And what if he extracted the Byakugan? That could come in handy too.

But no, Akira quickly cleared his head. He was an honorable man—he wouldn't use the Byakugan for peeking on beautiful women. Absolutely not.

But then again… if he extracted the Byakugan and granted it to Jiraiya, the man could finally gather his "research" without sneaking around.

Technically speaking, the abilities Akira extracted belonged to him temporarily, so he should be able to grant them to others too, right?

Now that his Mangekyō Sharingan had awakened, Akira felt a deep sense of satisfaction with his newfound powers. He was already forming countless ideas about how to use them.

And then there was the Susanoo, a power unique to the Mangekyō. Akira wondered what stage his Susanoo would reach.

At its early stage, Susanoo was little more than a phantom, standing only a few meters tall. But Uchiha Madara's fully-formed Susanoo had towered over mountains, slicing them apart with a single swing of its blade!

Also, different Susanoo forms came with different weapons.

Madara had his sword, Itachi had the Yata Mirror, and Sasuke had his bow and arrow.

"Akira, congratulations! You've awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan and reached new heights of power!"

As Akira entered the research lab, Orochimaru was the first to greet him, offering congratulations.

"Your congratulations sound more like sarcasm," Akira replied, giving Orochimaru a flat look.

"My apologies, I misspoke," Orochimaru quickly said, realizing that Akira valued Hinata's well-being more than the Mangekyō Sharingan.

Perhaps every Uchiha who unlocked the Mangekyō felt like it came at too high a price.

To trade the life of someone precious for power… who would willingly make that choice?

And if someone did choose power over a loved one, that would prove the person wasn't truly important to them. And without that emotional loss, they wouldn't awaken the Mangekyō in the first place.

"So, how's Lady Hinata doing?" Orochimaru asked, trying to shift the conversation.

"Good news: thanks to Tsunade's healing, her life isn't in danger," Akira answered. "Bad news: she's still in a coma, and we have no idea when she'll wake up."

"And that's why I'm here."

"Overdrawing both her physical and mental energy, huh? That's not an easy fix," Orochimaru muttered, looking genuinely troubled.

But Akira's eyes lit up. Orochimaru had said it was difficult, but he hadn't said it was impossible. Which meant there was a chance.

What do people usually mean when they say something is "difficult" in negotiations? It's often just a way to ask for a higher price, right?

Although Akira knew Orochimaru had some respect for him, the man was still very pragmatic.

And when dealing with someone as practical as Orochimaru, there was no point in appealing to emotions. It was better to give him something tangible.

"You've always been interested in the power of the Sharingan, haven't you?" Akira asked after a moment of thought.

"Oh? Are you offering me the power of the Sharingan?" Orochimaru's eyes lit up with excitement.

But then he shook his head. "No, no. I'm only interested in Sharingan with real potential. Ordinary three-tomoe Sharingan aren't enough. I want a Mangekyō, or at least one with the potential to evolve into it."

He had a point. For a seasoned Kage-level shinobi like Orochimaru, an ordinary Sharingan wasn't all that impressive.

But a Mangekyō? Now that was something worth getting excited about.

"And what about my Sharingan?" Akira asked, cutting Orochimaru off mid-sentence.

Orochimaru stared at him, stunned. Was Akira really offering him the power of his Mangekyō Sharingan?

No way. That couldn't be real, right?

Akira didn't bother explaining. Words were meaningless here—what mattered was letting Orochimaru experience it firsthand.

Activating the Bestow ability in his right eye, Akira temporarily granted Orochimaru the power of the Sharingan.

Akira's own eyes remained golden, showing no visible change.

But Orochimaru immediately felt the shift. His eyes narrowed, and when he focused, the crimson glow of the Sharingan flickered into existence!
