A man named Garret wakes up to find himself in the back of your basic general goods store. He gets out after dealing with vertigo and a hangover from his drinking party. He had just come back from the front lines of a skirmish with the Terrorist group known as La Muerte de Diablo. His mind was hazy as he couldn't remember why he was there in the store or how he got there. A quick look to his phone revealed it has been 3 days since his last clear memory of the party and he was wondering where everyone was. Signal was gone and no sounds came from the store front despite it being a saturday afternoon. One step outside revealed, "Shit, it's the zombie apocalypse. And why can I see a virtual screen store from games in front of me?" Join Garret as he navigates this new world and what the heck it means to have basic stats and an infinite online store to help him survive. This is a story where it has, No level ups, no skill system, what you know is what you can do, and the store only has so many things you can grab with your points per day. Garret Grimsborne was a simple man.
Basic family, Mother, Father, older sister, younger brother. Couldn't decide what to do in life so he focused on being a soldier to protect others. And he was really good at it.
He shot well, fought well, and rose through the ranks until he was a solid Colonel rank by the Prime age of 35. He was satisfied with the rank as he could still join in field missions against hard threats. Such as a big Terrorist group called the La Muerte de Diablo. They were some bad dudes. Usually dealing in drugs, human trafficking, cannibalism, and gun smuggling. They also began to use chemical warfare and traps.
His last skirmish almost killed him but he managed to survive in a field hospital after taking down one of the terrorist groups biggest bases and chemical creation plants. He was hard to kill.
But he was allowed to go back to the states for some well deserved leave and rest. He was unmarried so he hung out with other soldiers on leave and enjoyed a good old drinking time. By the time he got home he was understandably hammered, but he took his green pill for fighting off sickness and toxins and went to bed.
With only one thought to him left, 'Wait... Do I have green pills for that?' Before he fell asleep.
Groaning Garret came to in the back stocking area of a general store based on the boxes labeled, John's General store and collectibles. Grunting as he got up, Garret noticed he was in his fatigues with his Kevlar combat vest and his Bowie knife and 9mm glock. He questioned how he got there, why he was prepared for light combat, and why he couldn't hear anything from the front of the store.
Checking his phone he was shocked to find out it was Saturday, his party was on Wednesday, so he was missing three days worth of memories. And it was the Afternoon. He should have heard people. Making sure his gear was secure and his face was somewhat clean using a hand towel from one of the boxes he steps out to the front of the store.
He is stunned to see it an absolute wreck. It looked like a war happened out here! Bullet holes, dead bodies, and barely any supplies left on any shelves except for a few items per shelf.
Now realizing the danger and seriousness of the situation he grabs his glock in his right hand and draws his knife with the left and goes through the store looking for supplies, survivors, and information. He calls out, "Hey! Anyone here?"
He waits and listens before continuing on, he hears a groan from the pharmacy area and heads over there, "Sir or Madam! Can you hear me? It's okay! I am a U.S. Marine Colonel here to help- WHAT THE FUCK?!"
He screams out the last bit as the groaning is revealed to be a man, but he is grey, decayed, and has a harsh limp from a huge chunk missing from his calf on his left leg, his right side also has his intestine spilling out and dragging behind him while his jaw is slack from missing half his neck and the left side of his jaw. The zombie stumbles as Garret trains his pistol and shots it in the chest twice at the heart.
It keeps coming.
He grits his teeth and levels his pistol at the head, shooting it right between the eyes he fires again and this time the body drops. Garret slowly approaches while keeping his ears peeled for any other noises of for any more zombies. He looks and checks the body by nudging it with his foot. It grunts and begins to reach for him. With a quick stab he shoves hi knife through the head and twists the blade.
The zombie gurgles and goes still this time. He sighs out while asking, "What the hell is happening?"
Then he gets a ding, but not from his phone as the signal isn't there, but from in front of him.
He looks with wide eyes as he sees, "You have killed your first zombie! Survival store activated! Every zombie kill is 10 points! Every living kill is 100 points! Points will be adjusted at the end of each successful week survived as mutants begin to appear! Have fun browsing the store and good luck surviving!"
Garret goes slack jawed and yells out, "WHAT THE HELL DID I MISS!?"
