After three days, Izuna led 300 reinforcements from Baigu Pass back to the Congyun Mountain battlefield. Upon arrival, he was greeted warmly by Uchiha Inosuke and others.
This enthusiastic reception was no surprise—his achievements at Mountain Pass had already become legendary. But Izuna had no time to bask in admiration; he had a more pressing concern—checking on Madara.
As Izuna passed through the camp, the excitement was palpable. Whispers and cheers followed him, filled with awe and gratitude.
When he entered the main tent, Madara, seated at the head of the table, frowned. "Why did you come in without announcing yourself?"
Izuna raised an eyebrow but said nothing, walking closer.
Madara squinted before suddenly standing up, his expression shifting to one of unrestrained excitement. Gripping Izuna's shoulders tightly, he exclaimed, "You're back! Izuna, you did an incredible job at Mountain Pass!"
Madara's enthusiasm contrasted sharply with Izuna's somber mood. Standing at the tent's entrance, Izuna had already noticed something troubling—Madara hadn't recognized him until he was mere steps away. His brother's eyesight had deteriorated to an alarming degree.
"Brother," Izuna began, his tone steady, "sit down. We need to talk."
The two brothers sat facing each other, a rare moment of reunion after a year apart.
"Your eyes... how bad has it gotten?" Izuna asked gravely.
Madara waved dismissively. "Don't worry. This is nothing for Madara Uchiha."
Izuna clenched his fists. Nothing? At this rate, you'll be blind in no time.
"Brother," Izuna said firmly, "you must stop going to the battlefield. I've acquired the Senjutsu techniques from the Jugo clan and sealing techniques from the Uzumaki clan. With them, I can help you harness Senjutsu chakra to alleviate the side effects of the Mangekyō Sharingan."
Madara frowned but listened intently as Izuna continued, his voice tinged with regret. "If only I had come back earlier, I might've been able to prevent this."
"This is not your fault, Izuna," Madara said quickly, his tone unusually soft. "No one else in our clan could have achieved what you've done. If anything, you've surpassed all expectations."
Madara crossed his arms and smirked. "To be honest, you're far more suited to lead the clan than I am."
Izuna scoffed. "I'm not interested in standing in front of everyone and giving orders. That's your job, brother."
With that, Izuna handed Madara two scrolls he'd acquired from the Jugo clan. "These contain the methods and precautions for practicing Senjutsu. I'll assist you during your training to ensure the natural energy doesn't overwhelm you."
Madara studied the scrolls, his sharp mind quickly grasping the techniques described within. "This... is dangerous," he remarked, narrowing his eyes. "If I lose control, the natural energy could consume me before I even realize what's happening."
"That's why I'll be there," Izuna reassured him. "You'll need someone to stabilize the energy."
Madara paused, his gaze sharp. "Wait. Who helped you stabilize the natural energy when you trained? Don't tell me you used your Sharingan for this."
Izuna froze for a moment. Damn it, why does he have to ask that?
"This... is a long story," Izuna muttered evasively, already regretting bringing up the topic. He couldn't tell Madara he'd relied on Uzumaki Mito to assist him during his training.
Madara's mind raced. He recalled the rumors from Mountain Pass—that Izuna had captured Uzumaki Mito and used her as a bargaining chip. Could it be that she had been the one to help him?
No, that's impossible... isn't it? Madara dismissed the thought with a chuckle, though a flicker of doubt lingered.
Before the conversation could continue, a deafening explosion echoed from outside the camp.
Moments later, Uchiha Inosuke burst into the tent, his voice urgent. "Clan leader, deputy clan leader—Senju and Uzumaki forces are attacking!"
Madara jumped to his feet. "Finally! I've been waiting for this—"
"Brother!" Izuna interrupted sharply, his tone firm. "You cannot go to the battlefield until you've mastered Senjutsu."
Madara hesitated, his jaw tightening in frustration. Slowly, he sat back down. "Fine," he grumbled, "but I'm counting on you, Izuna."
Izuna nodded, adjusting the armor on his shoulders before stepping out of the tent. "Don't worry. I'll handle it."
"Deputy Chief," Inosuke called, jogging to catch up. "Are we maintaining a defensive strategy?"
Izuna smirked, his eyes gleaming with resolve. "Defensive? No. Order everyone to prepare for an all-out attack. It's time to remind them who we are."
The reinforcements Izuna had brought from Mountain Pass had already energized the Uchiha forces. News of his triumph over Senju Kawaragi and Uzumaki Guanghai had spread like wildfire, bolstering morale.
When the order to attack was given, the camp erupted in cheers.
"Follow the deputy chief and crush them!" Inosuke shouted, leading the charge alongside Izuna. The soldiers' battle cries echoed through the valley as they stormed forward.
The battlefield of Congyun Mountain was starkly different from Mountain Pass. Once a lush forest, the area had been reduced to barren wasteland after a year of relentless fighting.
As Izuna led the charge, he spotted the enemy—a massive force led by Senju Hashirama and Senju Tobirama, their ranks bolstered by Uzumaki warriors. The combined army of thousands was an imposing sight, far greater in scale than the conflict at Baigu Pass.
"Uchiha Izuna!" Tobirama's voice rang out as he recognized the Uchiha leader. Without hesitation, he formed a series of seals, slamming his hands together.
"Water Release: Water Dragon Bite Explosion!"
The powerful S-rank Water Release surged toward Izuna, a testament to Tobirama's mastery. Known as the "Water God," Tobirama's prowess with Water Release was unparalleled.
Izuna, however, remained unfazed. The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan in his eyes spun rapidly, and faint markings of Senjutsu appeared at the corners of his face.
"But this time, things are different," Izuna said, his voice calm yet menacing.
