Ch-5 < Escape >

Kevin was deep in thought when a knock on the door disrupted his reflection. He approached and opened it to find a suspicious-looking man about to knock again. Kevin's eyes quickly caught the insignia of Fire Moth on the man's uniform.

"Are you here for Mei?" Kevin asked, swiftly piecing things together. Fire Moth must have sent him to protect and recruit her.

"I see that you have others with you," the man said, scanning the group behind Kevin.

"No matter, we must evacuate quickly," he said curtly, turning away to lead them.

"Come on, let's go. This guy will help us get to a vehicle for evac. The city will be engulfed in a battlefield!" Kevin urged the group.

They followed the man through the chaotic streets until they reached an underground bunker with fortified walls. Inside was an anti-honkai aircraft, seemingly shielded from any EMP effects. The group quickly boarded.

"There will be no stops. We are going to a nearby base for further transport," the man informed them.

Suddenly, Mei's eyes widened with realization. "My parents! They're still in the city!" she exclaimed, starting to argue.

Kevin nodded at the man, who swiftly shot her with a sedative. Panic spread through the group, but Kevin intervened. "We must reach safety first. Then we'll search for our families."

The mood inside the aircraft turned somber as they saw Nagazora being ravaged by hordes of honkai beasts. Kevin scanned the vehicle for anything useful in case of an emergency. "Hey, you must have some equipment here in case of emergency, right?" he asked the man driving.

"There's some honkai-powered blasters and cold weapons in this compartment," the man replied, pushing a button to reveal rifles, a one-handed sword, a spear, and a broadsword.

Kevin turned to the group. "This will be enough. Hey guys, pick up a rifle. Some of you take a sword for melee protection. I'll be using the melee weapons."

The group hesitated, their hands trembling as they picked up the weapons. Anna, the shy girl, was visibly trembling because of the disaster unfolding around them. Only Karishma had shown determination earlier.

He strapped the broadsword on his back and carried the spear and short sword in his hands. Just then, a flying honkai beast attacked the aircraft, sending them spiraling out of control. The vehicle crashed into the ground with a violent thud.

"Damn, you guys alright?" Kevin asked, quickly on his feet. Miraculously, everyone was unharmed thanks to the solid construction of the vehicle. One of the Fire Moth soldiers, a burly, tan-colored man, carried the unconscious Mei on his shoulder.

Suddenly, they heard thuds outside. As they quickly got out of the crashed aircraft, they saw a horde of honkai beasts and zombies ready to march at them.

"Everyone, get ready!" Kevin shouted, tightening his grip on his weapons.

Su, another member of their group, stepped forward with determination. "We need to hold them off until we can find a way to signal for help."

The girls picked up rifles and swords, readying themselves for the fight. "Kevin, what's the plan?" one of the girls asked, her voice trembling slightly but her grip on the rifle steady.

"We form a perimeter around the aircraft. Use the rifles to pick off the beasts from a distance, and be ready with the swords for close combat," Kevin instructed.

The shy girl, Anna, held her rifle with trembling hands, fear etched on her face. "I... I'll try my best," she whispered.

Kevin gave her an encouraging nod. "We're all in this together. Stay close and watch each other's backs."

The group formed a defensive circle around the crashed aircraft. Kevin took the front, spear in hand, ready to face the incoming threat. The honkai beasts and zombies advanced, their grotesque forms illuminated by the faint light from the wreckage.

As the first wave of beasts reached them, Kevin lunged forward with his spear, impaling one of the creatures. Karishma fired her rifle, picking off another beast that was closing in from the side. Su swung a sword with precision, cutting down a zombie that got too close. He then started vomiting because of the gruesome scene.

As Kevin was scanning the area, a sudden, strange movement to his left caught his attention. Without a second thought, he reacted instinctively, kicking with all his might in that direction.

The impact was powerful. A massive honkai beast, clad in white armor with glowing pink highlights, crashed down. It collided with several zombies and smaller beasts, sending them flying. The sheer force of the kick left the group stunned, their eyes wide with shock.

Su, her eyes wide with disbelief, turned to Kevin. "What was that? How did you do that?"

Kevin tried to mask his unease. "I don't know. I can somehow utilize some strange power," he said, downplaying the situation to protect his secret.

Su nodded slowly, though her curiosity was piqued. It seemed he could harness honkai energy, Su thought.

Before Kevin could respond, the dense fog around them began to lift. The visibility increased, revealing a ring of at least a hundred meters around them.

In the center of the clearing stood a towering monster, as large as an elephant. Its body was partially enveloped in intense yellow flames that flickered and danced at high temperatures. It also has exoskeleton like beetle.

The creature exuded an overwhelming aura that filled everyone with dread.

Anna, trembling uncontrollably, whispered, "What is that thing?"

Karishma, now semi-conscious, looked at the monster with fear-stricken eyes. "This is... beyond anything we've faced."

Ding! A sound ringed in Kevin mind and he looked at system.

<< Objective: Defeat Emperor class honkai beast.

Reward: 10,000 system points and access to the shop function. >>

Kevin's eyes widened as he read the message and he took a deep breath, steeling himself.

Kevin took a deep breath, steeling himself. "I'll take the lead and try to draw its attention. Everyone else, focus on escaping and run in the opposite direction. The Fire Moth agent will take you to safety."

The burly, tan-colored Fire Moth soldier shifted Mei on his shoulder, his expression grim. "Yes, I'll protect everyone. Your sacrifice will not be in vain."

Anna grabbed Kevin's arm, her eyes pleading. "Kevin, no! We need you. You can't do this alone."

"Please, Kevin!" Su said, stepping forward with a mix of desperation and resolve. "We can find another way. We can all escape together!"

Kevin shook his head, his voice firm. "If we all run together, the majority of us will die. If I distract the beast, most of you will have a chance to survive. This is the only way."

"You're not making this easier, Kevin," Su said, tears in his eyes. "But if you really think this is the best chance, then... we'll trust you."

Anna looked at Kevin with a mix of fear and determination. "Please be careful."

With that, the group began to run in the opposite direction. Kevin stood his ground, facing the giant elephant-like honkai beast.

Now I can fully use my powers, Kevin thought, his resolve hardening. He prepared himself for the battle ahead.

Kevin's resolve solidified as he faced the towering honkai beast. Gathering honkai energy beneath his feet, he stomped the ground, propelling himself onto the rooftop of a nearby building. From this vantage point, he saw the massive, flame-covered insect charging towards him.

The creature smashed into the building, tearing through its structure with devastating force. As the edifice began to collapse, Kevin leaped from the rooftop, landing nimbly on the ground just as the building's wreckage fell on the beast.

Through the ensuing dust cloud, Kevin raced toward the beast's head. With a powerful swing, he brought both hands down like a hammer, striking the monster's head with a bone-shaking impact. The ground cracked beneath them as the beast's head slammed into the earth. The massive elephant beetle writhed in agony.

A bitter smile touched Kevin's lips as he saw the beast struggle to rise again, its fiery exoskeleton still glowing ominously. The creature roared and, with a furious charge, hurled itself at Kevin, aiming to strike him with its head.

Kevin harnessed electricity to boost his speed, narrowly avoiding the beast's headbutt. The creature crashed into a building, causing it to collapse in a shower of debris. Stones of all sizes flew through the air, but Kevin created a forcefield with his space lock, shielding himself from the falling rubble.

Taking advantage of his superior speed, Kevin darted towards the beast's neck—the only unprotected spot on its armored body. He summoned a spear from his inventory, its tip charged with electricity. He drove it into the beast's neck, but the thick skin resisted penetration, only inflicting a shallow wound.

Blood sprayed from the wound, and the beast roared in pain. Kevin's body was scorched by the flames emanating from the creature. Gritting his teeth against the searing pain, Kevin barely managed to react before the beast's tail whipped around, smashing him into a building wall.

The wall shattered, and Kevin crashed to the ground, blood spewing from his mouth as severe injuries took their toll. Pain wracked his body, but his regeneration abilities quickly kicked in, healing his wounds at an accelerated rate.

As Kevin emerged from the rubble, he saw the beast still roaring in agony, the spear lodged deep in its neck. He utilized an electro boost to speed towards the creature's legs. With precise strikes, he drew his sword and severed two of the beast's legs.

The massive creature's body toppled into another building, causing it to collapse. Debris flew everywhere, hitting Kevin with several heavy stones. His face contorted in pain as he fought to stay upright.

In a final burst of energy, Kevin used space lock to immobilize the beast. He then charged at the monster's back, slamming the spear with all his strength. The spear fully penetrated the creature's neck, ensuring a fatal blow.

the beast let out one final, agonized roar. Its fiery exoskeleton flickered and dimmed as the life left its body. The creature's massive form shuddered, and it finally drew its last breath, collapsing in a heap of burning and twitching limbs.

Kevin stood amidst the wreckage, his body scorched and battered from the beast's flames.

As Kevin landed, he noticed more honkai beasts approaching. Exhausted and gravely injured, he dragged himself away from the fallen monster, each movement painful and labored. His clothes were singed, and the burns on his skin were severe.

Amidst the chaos,

a notification flashed before his eyes, cutting through the haze of his exhaustion.
