The man, Nick, grins, his eyes lighting up. "You're the best, Miss Emerson!" he exclaims, before disappearing back into the hallway.
Robin watches him go, her expression softening. "At least someone appreciates my efforts," she murmurs, sinking into her chair.
As the day wears on, Robin finds it increasingly difficult to focus on her work. Her mind keeps drifting back to Malik and his sudden departure.
She can't shake the feeling of being left out, of being kept in the dark.
Snarling she shakes her head.
"He doesn't owe me anything," she reminds herself, her fingers drumming against the desk.
"We're not even in a relationship anymore." The thought stings, but it's the truth.
She's not his wife so he doesn't owe her any explanations. They weren't even a couple, and he didn't even know her true identity!.
