I got dressed and got out of my room and went to Stefan's room to talk to him about the meeting. The door of his room was open and I walked in and I saw both of them in bed laying there laughing and talking about some thing. They stopped and looked at me and I looked at Stefan and said, "I have to go somewhere so can you watch Vicki."
From the other room I heard "I'm not a dog!" I turned and said, "What are you doing up? Sleep!" I heard a grunt and thump. I turned and Stefan sat up and asked, "Where are you going?"
"I have a meeting with the sheriff."
His face twisted with confusion and he shook his head and asked, "What? Why?"
I shrugged and said, "It's about Vervain… I gave some to Caroline just so that she's not bothered by our leech of a brother and I think her mom wants some… Vervain."
He got off the bed and asked, "Why would you do something like that? Why?"
I was completely mortified by his hypocrisy and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't know that only one of us could be Capt. Save a Hoe."
He sighed and dragged his hand over his mouth and said, "I'm not saying what you did was wrong but this is not optimal."
"I think it is…"
"How?"
"We can get inside the council now… think about it. The council is looking for vampires and now we can mislead them."
"I don't know… Tom this just seem dangerous."
I patted his shoulder and said, "Relax, leave it to… you just do what you do best." I turned around and was walking away when I said, "Actually don't cause you would just brood all day… keep your chin up kiddo. I got this."
[I'm not okay(I promise)]
I got in my car and drove into town to the police station. The streets of Mystic falls seemed quaint and quiet yet there was this odd silence that was gripping me by the throat. Even when the news showed the mountain lion to be the perpetrator of the attacks… the people still had this strange notion that something was there lurking in the shadows.
I arrived at the station, as I was parking I saw Caroline in a white top and skirt leaning on a car and looking. She saw me and straightened herself and started to walk towards me. I parked the car and started walking.
"Hey." she said with a tensed smile.
I tilted my head a little and said, "Hey?" "You okay?"
She shook her head and nodded, "Yes, yes… ah, um… Im sorry for all this."
"Why are you sorry?" We started walking inside the station and everyone looked at her and they had fond look in their eyes for her.
"Well, because of me… you have to talk to her even though you were trying to help me… I tried to explain it to her that it wasn't drugs or anything but she just wanted to meet you."
I laughed and said, "Seems like I made an impression."
"Please don't laugh." She turned and said, "My mom is kinda protective and everything with Damon that happened… I don't know."
I smiled and she looked at me confused and I said, "I'll be fine… I've dealt with worse. But thanks."
I walked to her office and knocked on the door and I heard, "Come in." I opened the door and I walked inside and she said, "Please close the door."
I closed the door and sat down both of us looked at each other and she said, "Did Caroline tell you why I called you here?"
I nodded and she said, "Alright, how did you get your hands on it?"
"It's mine, I grew it… well, more like collected."
She looked surprised and leaned closer and asked, "Do you know what it is?"
"It's called Vervain… it's a small plant, known for its medicinal qualities in alternative practices, known to help with insomnia and such…" She looked disappointed "Also known to be used against Vampires."
Her eyes shot me down and she looked at me seriously and asked, "You know?"
I shrugged and said, "Obviously… Im one of the founding families… would be weird if I didn't."
"How and who else knows?"
I sighed and said, "I don't really know if by brothers know or even believe in it… but I know it from the journals."
"Journals? You have a journal? We thought it was lost? Zack never found it."
"It's cause it was passed down to the main family… I really don't want to go down that rabbit hole. It's a whole another can of worms if you get it."
She hesitated and looked away and said, "Alright, but how did you know? All this?"
"I had heard storied from my dad about it and obviously I didn't believe him… but when I was in college… I saw some weird things… I didn't understand it at first but as I went down further in this I saw the truth. The serial killer of New York 1977-78, Washington 1957-60, Iowa and Chicago… the list goes on and on. I met people claiming to be victims, they said that they didn't know anything like that but their friends claimed to be different. They are cold, calculating, twisted and the worst thing is you don't know who's one of them. They are the reason why I came back, the history of this town is filled with these night crawlers and I want to find them."
She seemed astonished and said, "As much as I respect your dedication, I have to say it is stupid and dangerous. You're damning yourself."
I smiled and said, "Someone has to do it… and I don't want the fear to chain me to stop me from doing what's right."
We both just sat there in silence soaking it up and she said, "Seems like there is no way to stop you… so I'll try and help you… since you know so much about these damned bastards. I'd like your help."
I smiled and nodded, "Anything."
"Do you have some Vervain? That would be a start."
I smiled and said, "Just tell me when and I'll bring as much as I can."
She nodded and got up and I got up and we both shook hands and she asked, "I have one last question…" I hummed and she said, "Do you think that vampires can walk in the sun?"
I let go of the hand and ask, "What makes you think that?"
"They have to be, because we have exhausted every other possibility."
"It shouldn't be possible… but I'll look into it… who knows in the span of centuries or two they started shining like disco balls or something."
She chuckled and I got out of the office and I found Caroline still waiting and I asked, "You're still here?"
"Yeah, why? I can't?"
We both started walking out of the station.
"Alright, calm down."
"How did it go?"
"It went well."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
We reached my car and opened the door and asked, "You free or something?"
She looked at me and nodded, "Why?"
"I want some help picking out clothes. Get in."
I got inside and started the engine and she stood there frozen and I said, "Come on… We're burning daylight." She broke from the stupor and walked around the car and got inside.
