Chapter 1075: Father and Son (Four)_2

So, Jarvis believed, it was best not to disclose his true identity.

Upon seeing that Jarvis remained silent, Wanda took it as him admitting her supposition. The more she thought about it, the more she seemed convinced that she was right. So, looking at Jarvis with a measure of pity, she said, "You must have fallen out with your father because you don't want to be an enemy of the superheroes, right? It's okay, I understand you completely."

Wanda spread her hands and said, "You see, I am in the same situation. My father is Magneto. If you know anything about superheroes, then you should know about him, right?"

"Oh wait, what am I even saying. Even if you just watch the news, you would definitely know about him. That's right, he's the leader of the evil mutants, the enemy of all mankind, an absolute terrorist!"

Wanda raised her hand slightly, saying, "Even if you haven't seen the news, you saw his behavior just now. He kills without batting an eyelid!"

"Unfortunately, Pietro and I are his children, and at this moment, neither of us have the power to completely break away from his control, or as you put it... ," Wanda lowered her head, her lips tightening as she continued, "we rely on him to kill us when we lose control, so we don't harm ordinary people."

"Do you think he loves you?" Jarvis asked.

"Love?" Wanda repeated the word, her facial muscles contracting as if about to laugh, but, ultimately, her expression was a stony blend of mockery and amusement. "Don't even talk about love, he has no emotions, no humanity!"

"Why would you say that?" Jarvis asked again.

"Because he feels no remorse for hurting others," Wanda answered concisely. "Not only that, he's even proud of it, thinks it showcases his power and authority."

"Has he ever hurt you?" Jarvis asked.

"If by hurting you mean severely injuring us in fights, then no." Wanda shook her head. "But, that's only because, amongst his three children, we each have different abilities, and he's not completely capable of dealing with us."

"Pietro is fast, he can always run away if he can't beat an opponent. My ability is quite special, and I won't get hurt easily." Wanda tilted her head slightly, as if refusing to be seen as weak: "He may be strong, but we are not weak."

"What about you?" Wanda looked back at Jarvis, asking, "Has your father ever hurt you? What kind of person is he?"

"He's a genius," Jarvis answered without hesitation. "As for the harm... I'm not so sure what qualifies as harm. Would kicking me out of the house count?"

"Of course, it counts!" Wanda raised her voice, "Even though you seem to be of age, but still, kicking you out in this freezing weather without a warm place to stay, as a father, he's completely incompetent!"

Wanda pursed her lips, looking at Jarvis as she continued, "Don't you ever believe that he did it for some lesson he wanted you to learn. The truth is, he's just suppressing you, trying to forcefully instill his beliefs into you. I'm all too familiar with this kind of manipulation!"

"Every time, this is how Erik acts. He thinks he's teaching us how to fight, to stay vigilant against enemies. But in reality, he's simply displaying his authority as a father. By hurting us, he amplifies his voice, ensuring we would not dare to resist."

As Wanda spoke, she grew more agitated. Standing, she exclaimed, "Don't listen to their lies! They just give you what they think you want. And if you dare to refuse it, they feel their authority has been challenged, resorting to even more vicious words to hurt you. But it's not because you did anything wrong. They are the ones in the wrong!!!"

Jarvis also stood up, maintaining eye contact with Wanda, waiting as she slowly calmed down.

Jarvis reached out, lightly touching Wanda's cheek just below her eye. Feeling that familiar warmth, he pulled his hand back as though he'd been shocked.

Wanda opened her eyes. The moment Jarvis' fingertip touched her face, she felt a stab of pain. Reaching up and touching beneath her eyelid, she let out a soft cry of pain.

"Hold on! It may just be a scratch from the fight earlier!" Wanda turned away, clutching her cheek, her tone panicky. "Just wait a second!... Heal! Heal quickly! Quickly!!"

However, the more agitated Wanda became, the less effective her magic seemed to be. Jarvis cocked his head, observing her, "Ms. Wanda, my hearing tells me that your heartbeat is way above normal. Do you need help?"

"Of course not!" Wanda exclaimed. Then she covered her face with her hands, fell silent for three seconds, and resumed her speech, slowly taking off her hands and straightening her hair. When her cheeks came into view again, they were devoid of any wounds.

Wanda exhaled sharply, her breath coming out in short gasps. Blinking, she turned her gaze to Jarvis. "Well, you caught me at a weak moment. Opportunities like this are rare."

"It seems like you also ran out without any preparation. In that case, you can stay at the secret base Pietro and I have for the night. We will take you in. There are a few mutants like us there as well, fighting for the peace of New York."

Suddenly, Wanda's eyes brightened, a smile spreading across her face as she locked eyes with Jarvis, "To be able to snatch someone from that monster's grasp, you must be quite strong. What superpower do you have?"

"I..." Jarvis hesitated for a moment before responding, "I'm just an ordinary human."

"Okay, fine. An ordinary human..." Wanda waved her hand in front of her face, saying, "Come with me. You can keep up, can't you?"

With that, the witch effortlessly lifted off into the air, gesturing to Jarvis to follow her. Jarvis looked up at her, the reflected city lights dancing in her eyes.

The burning sensation erupted from Jarvis' fingertips, as though set on fire. He didn't hear any mechanical noises, but he felt as if the engine inside his chest had been ignited.

He launched himself upwards, hovering above the building, face to face with Wanda. As Wanda broke into a grin, she raised one eyebrow and retorted, "An ordinary human, huh?"

Then, with a sweep of her cloak, she flew off into the frosty night sky. A trail of red and blue light streaked across the New York skyline.

And this time, the lovers making wishes on the brightly lit night windows finally saw a true shooting star.
