Chapter 33 - Sara's response

Additionally, there was another aspect that left Sara with a surprised expression. Instead of a teenager, it seemed like some kind of monster was in front of her. Of course, this was just a thought of Sara's, not something she actually believed.

"Kurt, I think this isn't the best way to introduce yourself to someone who just found out they're a mutant" 

The boy with glasses' voice seemed to grab the attention of the last member, who until then seemed to have no idea of his current appearance. He had short dark blue fur, pointed ears like those of an elf, yellow eyes without pupils, and a mouth with sharp teeth. In addition, instead of the usual five fingers, he had only three on his hands and two on his feet. Additionally, he displayed a prehensile tail.

"Oops, my bad... want some fries?" 

Kurt asked, extending the small bag toward Sara. Although she knew she should be completely surprised, to be honest, with so many things happening in the last few days, Sara wasn't as surprised as she thought she would be. At the very least, he was just another abnormal person she knew.

Of course, Sara also couldn't deny that she could turn into something much scarier than that. Therefore, she decided not to be too hard on Kurt. After all, they would probably spend a good amount of time together from now on.

"I'll pass this time... Still, nice to meet you" 

Sara said. Upon saying these words, Kurt accepted Sara's handshake with a smile on his face. Then, the atmosphere became serious again. Seeing that it was the appropriate moment, the man in the wheelchair finally spoke.

"Before we get straight to the point, I just remembered that I haven't introduced myself. My name is Charles Francis Xavier, and this grumpy guy next to me is called Logan. You can call me Professor Xavier if you prefer; that's how all my students address me"

Upon hearing this, Sara nodded. Shortly after, the main topic was finally addressed.

"Now, let's get to the main point. Have you thought about your answer?"

Upon hearing these words, Xavier's four students fell silent, observing Sara's expressions. While doing so, Jean had been trying for some time to read Sara's mind, but for some reason, there seemed to be something blocking access.

Nevertheless, as the professor said nothing, Jean assumed that it was just something happening with her. However, in reality, not even Xavier could access Sara's mind to influence her in some way to accept his proposal. Xavier knew that the outside world could be cruel to mutants, and that's exactly why he needed to convince Sara to accept, to protect her.

Although it's obvious, what was preventing Jean and Xavier's mental powers was Prime. He didn't know how, but somehow Prime could create an external layer in Sara's mind that protected her against mental attacks. However, Prime chose not to inform Sara about it for now. He didn't want to worry her with something unnecessary at the moment; he would tell her at another time.

"Well, I've thought a lot about your proposal and decided that I'll accept it. Firstly, because I want to go back to studying, and since I don't have parents, I think that would be a bit complicated. Also, I have some conditions to accept your proposal"

The words from Sara surprised everyone, perhaps because she hadn't gone through what most had. Typically, new mutants quickly accepted Xavier's proposal without demanding anything in return, just protection.

"Very well, let's hear it"

After that, Sara began to present her conditions. Although she truly wanted to accept, she would quickly refuse if she felt her wishes were disregarded.

"Firstly, even though I'm coming to your school, I'll pay for my stay. I know this might seem a bit rude, but I don't want to feel tied to something. Also, when I decide to leave, I want you to promise not to try to stop me"

Hearing these words, Xavier remained silent while continuing to listen to Sara's conditions.

"Additionally, I also need you to enroll me in some school"

With her conditions stated, Sara remained silent, awaiting the professor's words. Seeing that Sara had finished, Xavier simply nodded.

"Very well, we'll meet your request. In fact, there's no reason to deny. Our school is not a prison, but rather a place to help mutants understand their powers and control them, so they can reintegrate into society in the future. You are more than welcome"

Upon hearing these words, Sara cracked a small smile on her face, realizing that the negotiations had been successful. With that, she stretched, letting all the fatigue, which she didn't even know she had, dissipate.

"Alright then, when you're ready, we can leave"

Hearing this, Sara just nodded. To be honest, she didn't have much to take with her, except for Prime's notebook, as it was what he used for work.

"We can go now. Truth be told, I haven't been here for very long, so I don't have much to take. I'll just grab my notebook, and we can go"

After that, Sara hurried to grab her notebook, while Xavier and the others left, telling Sara they would wait for her in the parking lot. Sara didn't pay much attention to it and quickly stowed her notebook in a bag before heading to the entrance door of her apartment.

However, before leaving, Sara turned momentarily, reminiscing about the moments she spent in this place. Although the experience was anything but normal, Sara couldn't deny that she built memories with Prime here. Even if she wasn't going to live there anymore, Sara would always remember it as a home to return to.

(Are you ready?) 

Prime asked in Sara's mind. Hearing that, Sara, with a smile on her face, asked.

"Will you be with me?" 

There was no deep meaning in that word.

(Of course) 

Hearing Prime's response, Sara moved again. 

"Then I am more than ready"
