It has to be said, "When there's a will, there's a way" is indeed a truth. Ever since it was confirmed that SHIELD was infiltrated by Hydra to such an extent that it might as well be called "SIEVE," Nick Fury has been in a state of exhaustion. He has been desperately thinking of a way out, yet his mind has been drawing blanks. The only method that seems viable for resolving the situation is the extreme one mentioned in the diary: the complete destruction of SHIELD along with Hydra!
There's no alternative. Given Hydra's level of infiltration, it's truly beyond redemption. Otherwise, why would his other self be willing to destroy SHIELD, something Nick Fury has poured his heart into? Even his other self felt this pressure, unimaginable like a mountain weighing on his chest. Yet, who would have thought that the solution would present itself from despair?
The diary revealed the only method to perfectly resolve the situation. It was like divine assistance! Nick Fury finally felt a weight lifted from his heart and found himself much more at ease. Without any hesitation, he started to meticulously plan the replacement of Alexander Pierce.
Due to Pierce's special status, replacing him proved to be easier than replacing other Hydra sleeper agents. After all, at his level, the web of relationships he needed to manage was less complex. Nonetheless, Nick Fury still proceeded with caution and invested a great deal of resources in preparing for this, covering all bases. After wrapping everything up, it was nearly dark, and he finally had a moment to catch his breath.
"Director, there's something I think you need to know." Just when he was about to make a cup of coffee to ease his fatigue, the earnest Phil Coulson appeared before him again. "Speak." Nick Fury had to put down his coffee cup and sit back down, looking squarely at Coulson.
He knew that if it weren't important, Coulson wouldn't personally report at this time. "It's about Thor," Coulson reported solemnly. "Someone spotted him in the Nevada Mountains." Thor? In the Nevada Mountains? Nick Fury was utterly bewildered. The actions of Thor completely caught him off guard.
In his subconscious, Fury thought that Thor should have returned to Asgard by now, so why was he still on Earth? Moreover, what business did he have in the Nevada Mountains? Fury's mind raced to analyze Thor's logic, but he was clueless. "Keep an eye on him, and report back to me with any developments," was Fury's final order to Coulson. "Understood, Director," Coulson replied, immediately tasking satellites to scan the Nevada Mountains for Thor.
They soon found Thor atop a mountain in the southeast foothills. "Thor, what are you up to?" Coulson wondered as he watched the satellite image. Despite being baffled, he knew better than to take Thor's presence lightly and kept a vigilant watch. Unbeknownst to them, at this very moment, Thor was actually conversing with Heimdall and only Thor could see Heimdall's projection.
"Heimdall, is this place sufficient?" Thor scanned his surroundings before asking Heimdall. After observing the environment, Heimdall nodded: "Absolutely, we have prepared enough dark energy to transport you back shortly."
"Hurry, Heimdall," Thor urged, impatient to return after lingering on Earth for too many days. "Stay put," instructed Heimdall before unsheathing his sword and inscribing complex runes around Thor's vicinity. In no time, a magical array surrounded Thor. "Are you ready now?" asked Heimdall, sheathing his sword and smiling at Thor. "Of course, I'm..." In a whoosh of light, the activated array engulfed Thor.
When the brilliance faded, Thor had vanished without a trace. In a blur, Thor found himself back in Asgard, surrounded by familiar faces: his father Odin, mother Frigga, and his most loyal friend, Heimdall. "Thor, welcome back!" Heimdall greeted with a smile. "Thor!" Frigga embraced her son, then meticulously inspected him.
"Thor, you seem different," Frigga said, looking at her son contentedly. "Your time in Midgard must have been memorable." "Yes, Mother, indeed, it was," Thor shared his sentiments, reflecting on his recent experiences on Earth as dreamlike. Despite its brevity, the trip was profoundly significant for Thor, something he felt he would never forget.
"I didn't expect that it would take you over a month to be able to lift your hammer again." Despite being pleased with Thor's growth, Odin couldn't help but slip into his stern fatherly role once he began to speak.
"Father, I know I have disappointed you, and I will apologize to you later. But for now, I would like to know if all is well in Asgard." After expressing these serious words to Odin, Thor realized something,
"Where's Loki? Why can't I see Loki?" Thor immediately had an ominous premonition. He had learned some things from Heimdall back on Midgard. For instance, that the Bifrost Bridge of Asgard was broken, thus preventing regular transportation and requiring the use of dark energy.
However, as to why the Bifrost was broken and other matters, Heimdall did not reveal to Thor. Thor, of course, knew nothing of the "accident" that occurred between Odin and Loki. But after learning related information from the diary, Thor had his suspicions. That's why he was deeply concerned.
Now, as Thor mentioned this, he saw the expressions of both Odin and Frigga darken, intensifying his bad feeling. "What's wrong?" "What happened to Loki?" Thor pressed, his face one of disbelief, "He couldn't have, fallen into the cosmic abyss, could he?" Without having returned to Asgard, without any war erupting with Loki, something like this shouldn't have happened, right? But why was the Bifrost broken?
Odin couldn't help but cast a glance at Heimdall, suspecting that he was the one who had disclosed this information to Thor without much thought. Simply waving his hand, Odin dismissed Heimdall, "Heimdall, you may leave for now. I need to speak with Thor alone." Heimdall naturally complied with Odin's command, bowed politely to the Allfather, and then left the scene, leaving only Odin's family.
"Thor, many things have happened in Asgard during your absence," Frigga said, exchanging a look with Odin before sighing deeply. They then told Thor about all the upsetting events that had transpired since his exile.
Thor was truly lost for words, taken aback by the extent of the chaos! Even without his return to Asgard, Loki's fate remained unchanged, still falling into the cosmic abyss. The Bifrost was also broken. Was this truly Loki's destiny?
So, what about the future? Would Loki, who had fallen into the cosmic abyss, encounter Thanos as recorded in the diary, and then be persuaded by Thanos to invade New York? Thor thought it very likely!
After all, the diary had already proven to be accurate - its correctness was beyond doubt. While Loki's path had minor deviations, he was now on the trajectory revealed in the diary. It was only natural to expect future developments to unfold according to the diary's spoilers.
"Father, Mother, you needn't be too sad, Loki is likely not dead!" Thor then encouraged himself, attempting to console a grieving Odin and Frigga.
"Thor, I know it's hard to accept, and your father feels the same, but no one can survive the cosmic abyss," Frigga replied, believing Thor to be in denial and began to comfort him.
"No, Mother, I am quite certain Loki is not dead!" Thor insisted more adamantly.
Odin and Frigga were at a loss. Thor's demeanor didn't suggest excessive grief. Instead, he seemed to know something they didn't.
"I watched Loki fall into the cosmic abyss with my own eyes," Odin mused, fixing his gaze on Thor. "And you were not there, why would you say such a thing?"
"Father, as Mother said, I did encounter some events in Midgard." "Events so fantastic they seemed like a dream." "Let me put it this way, I have obtained something with magical powers." "This thing reveals some future events to me, but because of its magic, I am unable to speak about it - I've tried and failed," Thor vaguely disclosed the diary's existence to Odin and Frigga.
Odin and Frigga, dumbfounded after hearing this, began to question the plausibility of Thor acquiring something that could foresee the future - something so powerful it prohibited him from revealing it. How could they know for sure Thor had this object if he was barred from discussing it? It was indeed hard to believe without evidence, and they knew their son sometimes lacked discernment.
"So, it's this 'thing' that told you Loki is not dead?" Odin asked, voice heavy with inquiry.
"Wait." Frigga interjected, recalling something, "The message you had Fandral and the others bring, warning us of danger to Asgard, did it come from this thing too?"
"Yes," Thor nodded firmly, "I know it's incredible, but many things it revealed came true, including Loki's schemes and his fall into the abyss."
Odin and Frigga were genuinely astonished. They were well-aware that foreseeing the future was a feat of immense magnitude, a capability beyond even the mightiest beings in the universe, achievable by only a select few with special means.
"What else did 'it' say, apart from Loki's incident?" Odin continued.
"Loki will meet someone named Thanos after falling into the abyss, then be deceived by him into invading Midgard," Thor replied. "Oh, and about the Infinity Stones - Father, you collect them too, right? Are those embedded in the Infinity Gauntlet in the Asgardian vault the Infinity Stones? And Father, could you tell me the story of the ancient Avengers you fought alongside?"
Thor bombarded Odin with many things at once, and Odin's expression grew increasingly somber. Issues like collecting Infinity Stones or ancient Avengers were things Odin had never spoken about to anyone. So Thor's words must be true; he really could see into the future?
