Chapter 285 : The Talk Continues

The next day, Orion went back to the mansion. He didn't even bother telling anyone that he was leaving Hogwarts in broad daylight.

He found himself again in front of the abandoned mansion, but at least this time, thanks to him, the place was clean.

His legs mindlessly took him inside the mansion toward the secret hidden lab.

"Yo, did you sleep well?" Orion asked with a smile. His tone was cheerful. Maybe the reason was that he finally had a lead which could help him bring back Merlin, which lifted his mood, or maybe he had a good sleep the previous night. No one knew why he was this happy.

Eric saw the grumpy boy who had been making a fuss yesterday and had threatened to burn him every few minutes. His eyes couldn't help but be raised.

"I should be the one asking you that. Where is the angry young man from yesterday?" Eric asked with confusion on his face.

Orion, on the other hand, just waved his hands while staying relatively calm. "Yeah, I was sleepy last night. Usually, I tend to be a bad conversationalist when it comes to hunger and sleep.

Anyway, forget about that and let's pick up our conversation from where we left it last night. I know that there are many things you are hiding, so how about we just cut the idle chit-chat this time around and directly talk business?" Orion replied with a still casual tone on his face.

Eric, hearing this, just stared at Orion, who was taking the situation casually, and sighed. To him, Orion was a child who didn't understand the gravity of the situation.

"So, let's start with Merlin being your teacher and all the talk from yesterday. I believe that you joined that guardian group which Merlin was talking about under him. He made you the next Guardian and then you messed up real hard when Death came knocking on the door.

Merlin had to stop him, but due to not having that 'Oh So Mysterious' power which you two go on and on about, he lost... big time and was killed."

"Am I missing anything here?" Orion asked while he sat down on a couch he conjured and took out something to eat.

Eric, on the other hand, was experiencing mental lag trying to comprehend what the child had just told him.

'The guardians—though that wasn't the name of the group—but still, many refer to them as such. How the hell does this child even know something about that? And he knows about that power as well? How did he even know about that in the first place?' Eric's face wasn't looking good.

He pondered hard internally, contemplating Orion's claim that Merlin himself had taught him. Earlier, Eric hadn't believed the child for a second, but now...

He knew that it was impossible for his teacher to have done that, even though the child said that Merlin left behind a memory. That was nonsense. There is no way that is possible.

There exists no magic in this world which can last for 1000 years. Even for his teacher, doing that is impossible...

He was thinking but then suddenly stopped. 'No, there is one magic which can do that, but that is not possible. The teacher didn't have that magic at that time. He passed half of that magic to me, and the other half was lost?'

Eric couldn't help but go into silence. He actually wanted to believe what the child was saying, but it was impossible.

Impossible unless the child is the next successor. But he can't sense that magic in him. He is powerful, really powerful to the point that he can't see the depth of his magic, but that magic is not just pure power.

It's a different sort of power altogether.

So no, Eric doesn't believe Orion when he says that Merlin taught him, but... then the real question is how he learned all this.

'Could it be...' Eric's eyes suddenly narrowed. He saw the child in front of him and didn't sense any dark magic from him. If anything, his magic was very pure. And he also strangely noticed his shadow.

That was a real shadow.

'Maybe someone is mind-controlling him?' Eric pondered.

Orion, who was very close to finishing his pizza, was getting impatient.

"Come on, there is no point in thinking too much about it. Even if you don't believe me, what could it possibly cost you to tell me your story in detail?

See, I really don't want to disturb your eternal solitude, but I'm at the end of my ropes right now. I need a way to bring back Merlin's... hmm... whatever that was—soul, intangible body, or memories—it's hard to explain. Just give me something that can help. You are my only lead right now," Orion said with a Helpless tone.

Eric remained silent after hearing this. He was pondering hard. Unlike what the naive child—or at least naive-looking child—just said, it does matter whether he shares this or not.

If the information falls into the wrong hands, then the world is doomed. But again, what other choice did he have?

He can't do anything anymore. Being able to reverse his consciousness in this picture was the last thing he could do. He had long lost the right to bring any change to the world of the living.

But...

'Maybe, if just maybe, I can really do something. Something which I couldn't do while I was alive. Maybe I can do it when I'm dead. It's a big gamble though...' Eric was conflicted.

"Okay, but I need an Unbreakable Vow..." Eric replied, taking the last gamble even after his death, putting everything on this last bet.
