Chapter 31: Love Poems

On the riverbank, willows gracefully sway, and the azure waves ripple.

In this exceptionally beautiful scenery, neatly arranged rows of farmhouse courtyards stand. Although they may appear a bit weathered from the outside, the interior is decorated elegantly and fresh, exuding a classical charm.

Guided by their father, Yan Yuchen and Yan Xiaoxi arrive at a well-kept small courtyard, which will be their new home.

The siblings explore the courtyard, expressing their satisfaction with the surroundings.

As their father proudly introduces their new home, Yan Xiaoxi casually remarks, "Dad, there seem to be quite a few rooms here."

About to nod in agreement, Yan's father suddenly realizes and hastily adds, "Although there are many rooms, only two are inhabitable. The others are dirty, messy, and filled with stuff, not suitable for living."

Yan Xiaoxi smiles, "No problem, I'll clean them up."

Her brother Yan Yuchen chimes in, "I'll help you, little sis."

Father Yan, frustrated, glares at his son and awkwardly says to his daughter, "Xiaoxi, the other rooms really are uninhabitable. If they were suitable, why would I lie to you? Do you understand?"

Yan Xiaoxi mutters discontentedly, "You've lied to me plenty."

Father Yan, feeling guilty, laughs nervously, "It's for your own good, the other rooms... aren't very clean..."

"I'll clean them up then!"

Yan Xiaoxi dismisses it casually.

Seeing his daughter's determination, father Yan reluctantly admits, "My good daughter, let me tell you the truth. Someone died in the other rooms."

At this revelation, Yan Xiaoxi's expression changes, and after a brief struggle, she says, "Forget it, I'll sleep with Mom. You sleep with my brother; that's fine."

Father Yan, trying to appease her, says, "That won't do. Your mom and I are a couple, naturally sleeping together. Xiaoxi, be good, sleep with your brother; he won't bully you."

Uttering insincere words, father Yan's face turns slightly red.

Yan Xiaoxi glares at him, understanding his intention and willing to comply, but she feels that agreeing too easily would make Yan Yuchen, that scoundrel, look down on her, thinking she's eager to sleep with him.

A girl should be reserved and not too forward.

"Dad, I don't want to."

Yan Xiaoxi vigorously shakes her head, pouting in anger, thinking to herself: Unless Mom comes out and earnestly advises me, and the scoundrel brother actively pleads and begs me, only then would it be appropriate.

"Dad, you said people died in the other rooms?"

Yan Yuchen, without pleading, gazes at father Yan and asks.

Father Yan winks at him, then glances at his daughter, solemnly saying, "Yes, it's said that ghosts haunt every night, so they urgently sold this house to us at a low price."

Yan Yuchen is amused; it turns out Dad deliberately scared his little sister.

Picking up a broom from the yard, he says, "It's okay, Dad, I'm not afraid of ghosts. I'll clean up a room as my own, and let my little sister stay in the clean one."

Father Yan twitches his mouth, staring at him, muttering, "You fool..."

Beside them, Yan Xiaoxi looks at him in a daze, feeling a warm flow in her heart. Just as she's about to thank him, Yan Yuchen mutters to himself, "I won't sleep with her; this girl drools in her sleep, disgusting."

"Yan Yuchen!"

Yan Xiaoxi is instantly furious, teeth clenched, and she bends down to pick up a brick.

Panicking, Yan Yuchen runs into the house with the broom, terrified, "Don't be angry, little sis. Even if I don't want to sleep with you, you can't hit me with a brick. What grudge do you hold against me?"

"You scoundrel! If you dare, don't run. I promise not to kill you!"

Yan Xiaoxi chases him into the house, wielding the brick.

Father Yan stands in the courtyard, sighing.

Mother Yan comes out from the kitchen, smiling slightly, and consoles, "Forget it, they're still young. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future. They're at an age where they're sensitive, rushing them to sleep together might backfire."

Upstairs, the siblings played around for a while before starting to tidy up their rooms together.

The evening sun spilled its golden rays on the tranquil riverbank, where blooming flowers released a faint fragrance. The small courtyard was filled with a cozy atmosphere.

The first dinner in their new home unfolded in the elegant courtyard. Yan Yuchen still fought over the meat in Yan Xiaoxi's bowl, and she continued to playfully step on his foot. The faces of father Yan and mother Yan bore loving smiles.

Except for their living quarters, it seemed like nothing had changed.

After dinner, the siblings excitedly left the courtyard and came to the riverbank to play.

Golden hues of sunset reflected in the clear lake water, and a gentle breeze ruffled the surface, creating ripples that sparkled like mischievous little elves winking their eyes.

Willow branches hung low by the river, and lush green grass covered the ground. Across the bank, the city wall meandered, creating a charming scenery.

"Brother, this place is truly beautiful."

Sitting on the grass by the riverbank, Yan Xiaoxi squinted her pretty eyes and sincerely admired the view.

Yan Yuchen turned to look at her; the girl's lovely cheeks blushed in the setting sun, incredibly charming. He couldn't help but smile and spontaneously recited, "You sit by the riverbank admiring the scenery, and the person admiring the scenery sits by the riverbank watching you. The sunset decorates your face, but you decorate someone else's dreams."

Yan Xiaoxi's body trembled, and she suddenly turned to look at him.

Yan Yuchen woke up abruptly, awkwardly smiled, and said, "Just nonsense."

He almost forgot that this world is different from the one before, and cultural differences might exist. The original version of this poem might not be known in this world.

Staring at him, Yan Xiaoxi asked, "Who is it referring to, brother? Is it you?"

Yan Yuchen wanted to smack himself. Why did he randomly recite poetry? He thought it was a well-known poem that he could casually modify for entertainment, but apparently, this world might not have that popular poem.

This poem, especially with the beautiful atmosphere of the dusk sun and willows by the river, was too enchanting. What to do now?

"Little sis, look, there's a UFO—oh no, it's a flying duck!"

Yan Yuchen had no choice but to use the same trick, pointing to the wild ducks on the lake not far away to change the subject.

Yan Xiaoxi remained unaffected, still staring at him. Her eyes gradually filled with a misty layer as she said, "Brother, can you recite it again? Such a beautiful poem..."

Yan Yuchen sighed internally but maintained a nonchalant smile on his face. "Of course, why not? Listen, cough, you sit by the riverbank admiring the scenery, and the person admiring the scenery sits by the riverbank watching you..."

Yan Xiaoxi's heart trembled, her cheeks blushing, and her eyes filled with enchantment and happiness.

However, the next moment, her expression changed.

Yan Yuchen continued with deep emotion, "The sunset decorates your face, but you use your beauty to bring nightmares to others..."

"...!"

"Ah! Little sis, spare me, don't pinch me, it was you who asked me to recite it..."

"I'll strangle you! Strangle you! Strangle you, you scoundrel!"

"Sob, can you give me a reason to be strangled?"

"Sure! You have a face that deserves to be strangled!"

"..."
