Mei took a deep breath, then asked, a little nervously, "You know about her, right? The one in the video who looks a lot like me?"
"Yes, I do," Luo Mo replied.
"She's dangerous," Mei said carefully, trying not to sound too blunt. She figured the person who made this game and promotional video would already know about her Herrscher situation.
"Dangerous?" Luo Mo repeated the word, thinking it over before smiling. "Alright, Ms. Mei, let's go with that word for now. You say she's dangerous, but has she ever actually hurt you?"
"Harm... me?"
Memories of Nagazora City flooded back to Mei. Countless lives lost in an instant, lifeless bodies scattered everywhere. Horrifying purple and white creatures appeared out of nowhere, their claws sharp and bodies unbreakable. People's weapons were useless against them, like trying to scratch an itch with a feather.
The survivors were slowly being pushed back. A towering building, a symbol of human pride, was reduced to rubble by the Honkai, a brutal force that left nothing but emptiness in its wake. Not even a single blade of grass remained.
Mei wanted to shout at the man in front of her, to tell him about the pain she had suffered, the hurt she had caused others, and most importantly... Kiana! But she remembered why she was here and swallowed her words.
Mei's father had been arrested for taking bribes and and embezzlement of funds at ME Corp. When the news got out, her classmates at school turned on her. They made fun of her, ignored her, and some of her so-called best friends even started bullying her.
The people she cared about the most were the ones who hurt her the worst. The world felt like it was spinning out of control. Mei could have fought back with her Kendo skills, taken back her title as Queen of Thunder, and made them pay. But she chose to just let it happen... hoping things would improve.
Instead, they just got worse. Why had she stayed quiet back then? Mei wondered.
Oh yeah, that was when she felt completely alone. Her dad was gone, her friends had turned on her, and everything good in her life had fallen apart. For the first time, she felt weak and realized how easily good things could be destroyed... how fragile they really were.
When Mei felt totally alone, the world seemed to lose its meaning. That's when 'she' appeared. The first thing 'she' said was, "Coward, stop crying," and then 'she' wanted to get rid of the people who had wronged Mei. 'She' was kind of bossy, and they didn't always see eye-to-eye.
'She' often talked about destroying the world, but Mei always disagreed. No matter how much 'she' pushed, Mei would gently say no, trying to keep her distance. But at first, Mei found herself smiling. Finally, someone was talking to her like a normal person, even if it was all in her head and even if 'she' wanted to hurt everyone around her.
Mei's mind was a constant battle between the two of them, while the outside world continued to be cold and mean to her. 'She' was the only one Mei had left, and Mei was the only one 'she' had, even though their feelings weren't exactly friendly.
Things finally came to a head during another bullying incident at school. Dirty water, bad smells, messed up desks, ripped books, cruel notes, and... Mei's own helplessness. Her classmates laughed and pointed at her.
Suddenly, the idea that she had been holding the other 'her' back broke down. Mei felt tired and thought,
Maybe giving up wouldn't be so bad?
This world deserves to be destroyed!
And with that, 'she' took over. Her lightning powers changed everything around them. The sky filled with storm clouds, and destruction energy surged like a giant wave. All of Mei's classmates turned to dust.
Mei became the Queen of Thunder, holding the gem of Conquest! She felt no sadness, no happiness, just peace. As she gave up control of her body to 'her', her heart turned to ash.
'She' seemed a bit surprised, then laughed. She stepped over Mei's frozen body and took charge.
Maybe 'she' had called Mei a coward, but it didn't matter anymore.
Mei just lay back in the darkness and sighed softly.
Then, a girl with white hair showed up and defeated 'her.'
Truthfully, Mei had been playing along with 'her' all along, deep inside. She vaguely remembered this girl with the braided pigtails. This girl had never looked down on her. She always smiled at Mei with warmth and kindness.
In the real world, Mei found herself falling from a rooftop. Is this it? she wondered. Her body was strong enough to survive the fall, but the thought of it all ending here brought a strange sense of peace.
She gave in, closing her eyes tight and letting go. A life filled with mistakes, sadness, and betrayal was about to be over. It seemed right, like this was how it was supposed to be.
But then, a hand reached out to her, stopping her fall. The warmth of it was real, and the smile that came with it was so bright that Mei couldn't help but long for it. She reached out her own hand and held on tight.
Kiana had made Mei realize that the world wasn't all bad. She had reminded Mei to reach for the light. 'She' just sneered and didn't say anything. Mei had returned to the light, while 'she' retreated back into the darkness.
So, had 'she' ever hurt Mei? No. Not really.
Mei had just avoided the question and blamed 'she' for all the trouble and the Third Honkai, acting like she had nothing to do with it.
Mei laughed bitterly. "Haha... Original? Boss... I... I need some time alone. I'll head back first." She ran off towards St. Freya.
"Mei, wait for me!" Kiana saw Mei take off and didn't even hesitate. She chased after her, forgetting all about her conversation with Bronya.
