The continuous string of awakening failures weighed heavily on the entire class, creating a palpable atmosphere of disappointment and tension. Mr. Johnson couldn't help but frown, feeling the weight of the situation. With only 30 students in his class, the fact that 12 of them had already failed to awaken was disheartening.
As a teacher, Mr. Johnson cared deeply for his students' well-being and success. Witnessing their dreams of becoming Tower Runners shattered one by one was a difficult experience.
"Alex Doyle," called out Mr. Johnson. Upon hearing his name, Alex nervously approached the podium, his lips moving in silent muttering, almost as if he was pleading to someone.
"Dear God Dios, please help me awaken. I promise to be a good child and never argue with my parents," Alex muttered softly as he took hesitant steps towards the podium.
Alex's anxious plea revealed the underlying fear that had gripped him. His parents had often used the notion of God Dios disliking disobedient children to instill obedience in him. Whenever Alex would argue with his parents, they would frighten him with the idea that he might not be chosen as a Tower Runner if he continued to be a "bad" child.
"Alright, Alex, put your hand on the sphere," instructed Johnson. Alex complied, placing his hand on the sphere, and after a few seconds, the sphere emitted a radiant glow. Both Johnson and Alex smiled, knowing that this luminous display signified a successful awakening.
Johnson warmly congratulated Alex, and several classmates rushed over to share their congratulations as well. The tension in the class seemed to ease slightly with the first successful awakening. Some students appeared envious, while others could be seen muttering their own pleas to God Dios, just as Alex had done moments before.
Xavier felt a sense of joy for his friend's accomplishment. He, too, was happy to see Alex successfully awaken.
As Alex returned to his seat, wearing a contented smile, the classroom atmosphere seemed to brighten with newfound hope and optimism.
Xavier noticed a black tower tattoo on Alex's left hand, a symbol that distinguished him as a Tower Runner. Alex appeared mesmerized, seemingly lost in his thoughts as he gazed ahead. Xavier knew that Alex was probably interacting with the system to check his awakened status.
However, his attention was soon diverted when Mr. Johnson called out another name, "William Lone." Xavier's focus shifted back to the podium, where William nervously clenched his fist and approached. He placed his hand on the sphere, and after a few seconds, the sphere emitted a brilliant shine, indicating William's successful awakening.
Mr. Johnson congratulated William, and a sense of pride filled him as he confidently returned to his seat, head held high. Xavier was pleased to witness another successful awakening.
As more names were called, the awakening process continued.
