Chapter 185: Who Else?! (REWRITE)

"Why did you run over John Crough?"

Inside the interrogation room, a heavyset officer sat across from Jon, his face darkened with seriousness as he questioned him.

"Because he spat on my car window," Jon responded calmly.

"Just for that?" The officer's eyebrows knitted in frustration, clearly displeased by the answer.

"Yep. And, well, because he really annoyed me," Jon said nonchalantly.

Bang! The officer slammed his hand on the table, leaning forward aggressively. "Do you even realize what you're saying?!"

"Of course, I do. I ran over some scum, that's all," Jon shrugged.

The mention of John's name made the officer's lips twitch, and he shifted his expression into a cold smile. He assumed Jon was so stubborn because he understood there was no way out of his situation.

"Hmph, do you realize what the consequences of your actions will be?" the officer sneered.

"Of course. I'll be released without any charges, and you'll even escort me home politely," Jon replied indifferently.

"Are you joking with me?" the officer's tone turned frosty.

"Absolutely not. In fact, I have solid grounds for what I'm saying," Jon retorted.

The officer paused, then gave a derisive laugh. "Oh? Solid grounds? I'd love to hear it."

Jon smirked, leaning closer until his eyes locked onto the officer's. "Your name is Rock Loren, right, Officer?"

"Yeah, I introduced myself when we started," the officer named Rock looked at Jon as though he was dealing with an idiot.

"Good. Now, Officer Loren, a year ago, you dealt with a similar case—a car crash, remember?" Jon grinned. "Back then, the guy sitting in my place was the very person I ran over—John Crough. And the person he killed was an innocent young girl. I believe my information is accurate, right?"

Jon possessed the Penance Stare, a power that allowed him to see into the souls of others and force them to relive their sins. It made uncovering hidden truths almost effortless.

Rock's expression darkened instantly, his mind beginning to connect the dots. He noted Jon's heritage and realized that Jon had deliberately targeted John Crough in some act of vengeance.

"What was your relationship with that girl? Was this some kind of vendetta?" Rock asked.

"Save your foolish assumptions, Officer. I had no connection to that girl. I ran over that scum purely because he annoyed me. And I wouldn't mind doing it again," Jon's gaze turned steely as he stared at Rock.

An unsettling fear began to creep into Rock's chest. He knew this was the police station, where no one would dare harm him. And yet, when he met Jon's eyes, the feeling of dread was inexplicably overwhelming.

Jon continued, "A year ago, he ran over an innocent girl, and you were the one who handled the case. If I recall correctly, all he had to do was pay her family some cash, and he walked away free. By that logic, shouldn't I also get away by paying some cash? I mean, the one I ran over was far worse—a menace. Maybe I should even get a discount."

Bang!

Unable to contain his anger, Rock slammed the table. He glared at Jon and growled, "You think your foul mouth can save you? You're nobody. Do you know what happens to people like you when they end up behind bars?"

Jon was unfazed by the threat. He calmly shrugged and said, "Sure, John Crough was the deputy's son. But, do you know who I am?"

As Jon spoke, a faint fire ignited in his eyes.

Seeing this, Rock instinctively stepped back several paces until he was pressed against the wall, his face draining of color. "You... you're one of them!"

Jon smiled. "Not just that."

The previously quiet police station suddenly erupted into chaos. The glass wall of the interrogation room shattered, and a figure flew through it, landing heavily outside.

Panic swept through the station. Officers drew their guns, but Jon simply walked out of the interrogation room, a flickering flame hovering in his hand.

"Flame abilities... My God, is he... the Phoenix Warrior?!" one officer gasped.

"What?!" another officer exclaimed, his face stricken with disbelief.

When Jon had previously donned his Phoenix Warrior guise, his face was always concealed, which meant that seeing him now, without the mask, left no one able to immediately recognize him.

Moments later, silence returned to the station. Everyone sat at their desks with their heads bowed, much like misbehaving schoolchildren facing reprimand.

All except one: Officer Rock, who was at that moment being dealt with by Jon's iron fist.

With a powerful heave, Jon hurled Rock across the room, sending him crashing over a table.

Jon stood in the center of the police station, his voice booming, "Who else wants a piece?!"

At his words, the other officers immediately averted their gaze, focusing intently on their work, not daring to even breathe loudly.

Jon found a piece of broken glass, used it to fix his hair, then turned his attention back to the officers, jabbing a thumb toward himself. "Such a handsome man, and you arrest me just for running over some scum?"

He scanned their faces, speaking in a lecturing tone, "Is there no justice anymore? No rule of law?"

Jon took a few steps toward Rock, who lay crumpled on the floor, and continued, "Even your chief has to show respect to the Super Seven. Otherwise, he wouldn't be chief for long."

He kicked Rock hard, shouting, "And you still think your deputy chief title means anything to me?!"

On the floor, Rock didn't dare to fight back. He stammered, "S-sorry, I didn't know who you were!"

Jon smirked and, without warning, spat at Rock. Rock flinched instinctively, though some of it still splattered across his face.

Not satisfied, Jon growled, "Did you just try to dodge?!"

Jon kicked over a nearby kettle, spilling hot water all over Rock.

"Aaaahhh!" Rock's screams echoed through the station like a wounded animal.

Jon adjusted his hair one last time before turning and walking toward the exit.

Seeing the officers still watching him, he yelled, "What are you looking at?! Get back to work, you useless lot! If any of you were worth anything, the Super Seven wouldn't have to do all the heavy lifting!"
