Chapter 2 She is an imposter

"Stop the car," Ethan yelled at the driver. Lisa could feel him alight from the car but she didn't dare question. She knew she was in for it.

"You could have just run when you had the chance to but you are just a coward," her subconscious kicked in.

She could vaguely hear her dad yell angrily in her mind," You are a good-for-nothing bastard you can't do anything right,"

After a while, the driver drove into Ethan's mansion. It was already dark but the whole compound shore beautifully. Lisa's eyes wandered around appreciating the beauty of nature. But inwardly she knew she wasn't supposed to be here. All this belonged to Lara but legally it was hers.

"Young Miss, we are here," the driver said opening the car door.

"Thank you," Lisa said politely. She took short strides toward the house still in her wedding dress.

"Young Miss welcome I am the butler Mathew but you can call me Mat," the butler welcomed her in.

"Please call me Li...Lara," she immediately corrected herself.

"But Young Miss you are now the Master's wife I have to call you with respect,"

"Don't worry I won't tell the Master, Lara is fine," she insisted.

"Miss Lara," he repeated.

"Better, may I know which room is mine?"

"This way I'll take you to the Master's suite,"

"No, we already agreed to sleep separately for a while till I get used to it," she lied with a straight face.

Good, she was now getting better at lying. She thought.

"As you wish," he led her to the second floor and then opened the first door on the corridor.

"You can use this room, the Master's room is at the end of the hall," he pointed. Ethan's room gave out a strange vibe Lisa couldn't help but shiver just thinking of him.

"Thank you," she said before shutting the door. She stared at the large room that was thrice her bedroom.

"A good night's sleep is all that I can have for now," she uttered under her breath.

...

"President, I have the information that you wanted," Ethan's assistant yawned slightly as he walked into the President's office.

The president was so cruel calling him back to the office on his wedding night.

"Speak,"

"Lisa Smith, twenty-two years old is the eldest daughter of the Smith family older than her sister by two minutes. She is introverted and good at studies. Lara Smith, youngest daughter of the Smith family also the girl you wanted to marry," he passed for a while checking his expressions.

"Go on," he folded his legs casually still in the suit from the wedding.

"A few days ago, Lara fled with a man leaving the whole Smith family in chaos so they asked the elder sister to take her place," Enough, that's all that I need. Ethan said his face was filled with anger.

"Should we act?"

"No, find out the man Lara fled with everything will go as planned, how dare they play with me." His dark eyes were blazing with anger.

"Yes president, you will have the full information tomorrow,"

Ethan waved his hand releasing him. That night, Ethan slept in his office he didn't go back to the house, nor check on Lisa.

.....

The next morning, Lisa woke up to an empty house she asked around and then learned that Ethan did not return home. She grew more worried and eager to know what was going on.

"Miss Lara, the Young Master has said that you can do whatever you want as long as you will be home for dinner," the butler said.

"When will he be back for dinner?"

"At 6:00 pm,"

"Thank you," Everything felt quite usual did it mean he no longer suspected her? She thought.

"Is the Young Miss going out?"

"Ooh, yeah,"

"Then I'll prepare a car for you,"

"No need, I can use a taxi if that's okay,"

"The Young Master bought a brand new car specifically for the Young Miss, he insisted that the Young Miss should use it or I would get fired," Lisa couldn't help but sigh.

"Then, I guess it's okay,"

"I'll prepare the car then," he said with a smile.

"Thank you Mat," Lisa couldn't help but tell his retreating back.

...

"President, I found the guy who ran away with Lara," his assistant walked in after knocking on the door.

"Speak," Ethan said coldly.

"His name is Gary Williams he owns a startup company that has been doing really well lately. They have dated for more than a year now so when you sent a marriage proposal, they agreed to run away together,"

"What about his company?"

"It's an entertainment company so he is managing it from where he ran to,"

"What about Lara?"

"She is an upcoming artist under his company,"

"I want you to suppress their company until they come back, how dare they treat me like this, I want them to kneel before me,"

"Lisa?"

"She is a Ph.D. student at M University and the only student under Professor Lane,"

"Impressive," he thought.

Ethan raised his hand releasing his Assistant. He stared at the shut door with mixed feelings.

"Hello," Ethan's phone rang after a while. His voice softened a bit as he spoke.

"Your grandmother is throwing tantrums again,"

"What does she want this time?" Ethan was normally a cold person but when it came to his grandmother, he was soft-heartened. It was also one of the reasons why he had gotten married. He didn't love Lara Smith as they all thought he found her to be someone slightly simple and that was all he wanted.

She was also the only person he had gotten close to that's why he chose her.

Ethan was a workaholic and had no time for marriage so her grandmother knew that was the only way.

"She wants to see her granddaughter-in-law," her grandmother's caregiver said. She was more of a sister and had helped her grandmother raise him.

"I'll bring her to the mansion,"

"Okay, take care of yourself,"

After hanging up the call, he thought about her grandmother's illness, despite having many doctors, no one was able to tolerate her temper. She was a stubborn old woman.

...

"Have you noted everything down?" Professor Lane turned to Lisa.

"Yes, professor,"

"Lisa, lend us your notebook,"

"Yes, Lisa lend us," her fellow classmates said one after the other.

"Professor?" Lisa turned to him.

"Okay, but give me the full report tomorrow,"

"Thank you, professor,"

Everyone in their department loved Lisa. She was attentive in class and after taking notes, she would lend them to her classmates. She was cold and distant but they didn't mind it.

"Lisa, someone is here to see you,"

"Who?" She asked turning to the door and immediately froze.
