New focus

"And what became of the wood that the tree was made of?" Nick asked curiously. "Zeus had the trees wood burned in the flames of the realm of the dead so that it would draw the souls of the humans that died to that place. It is why I am surprised to see that a branch of it has survived to this time. Likely hidden by those first humans from Zeus no doubt." she said honestly. "So the first mistake of man was to be born flawed?" Nick asked with a frown as that was an odd way to think to say the least.-

"Perhaps it refers to the act of hiding the wood from Zeus instead? He is not one to take disobedience well." Hephaestus offered and Nick felt that fit much better but he couldn't say for sure what the true meaning was as it was simply too vague. Still the fact that the entire branch could be used as a focus near perfectly threw a wrench in Nicks plans as he was just going to remake his wand originally but that was rather wasteful compared to a staff like he could make now.-

"The first step though is to strip off the unneeded parts like the bark and any hindering parts for magical flow." Nick said as he went to work. Hephaestus didn't say anything but watched intently as he carefully carved the blank into the correct form. The final shape was a five foot long piece of wood that was mostly straight with a hollow space at the top like an eye socket. Nick then began to slowly infuse the wood itself with starlight material and the various improvers that he had. Then he split the staff open and began to carefully carve the daedric runes into the wood that he found were perfect for wand making previously.-

He went even further than usual with this step as he had more room to work with and so could add even more runes to the wood to improve it further. He hesitated to place the feather within the staff however as he felt it was not enough for it. In an epiphany moment he realized what it was he needed to add as well , a part of himself. From his head he plucked a single strand of his own hair and carefully entwined it around the feather before placing it within the staff and closing it up.

Immediately the staff began to hum and glow as the core synced up with the wood and Nick had a smile that grew wider and wider as he sensed the power of the staff before him. The final touch came as he infused the staff with a powerful soul that he had prepared beforehand by feeding a single fragment of his own soul that was barely more than a grain of sand compared to the entirety of his soul many weaker souls to strengthen it. -

He of course fed that grain of his own soul pure soul energy rather than the actual souls since he wanted it to remain in it's proper shape. With this the bond with his wand /now staff was restored to it's full might and even made much stronger as the focus could now be considered a true part of his being. Nick Had an idea after seeing the eye socket like hole at the top of the staff and quickly moved to grab the omni crystal he had never found a use for until now and carefully slotted it into the hole.-

To his amazement the wood of the hole actually grew around and enclosed the crystal as the crystal itself seemed to stop glowing and turn into a pure clear diamond atop the staff. Nick knew that it wasn't so simple however as he could quite literally feel the power rippling off the staff as it seemed to distort the free ambient mana in the air around it from it's mere presence. Reaching out the staff levitated off the work bench of it's own accord and settled in his hand like a perfectly normal piece of wood without a hint of power leaking out of it.
