The ride back to Aldric's place was filled with an awkward silence. It wasn't a unnerving type of silence, just one that felt out of place. Aldric knew that Maxi typically enjoyed these rides and would use them as an opportunity to engage in naughty behavior in the carriage. Since leaving his mother's place, they had engaged in small talk and jokes, but it all felt forced, as if they were just avoiding the inevitable.
