"Where is my mother?" Valerie hissed as soon as he spotted her handmaiden. He could see the entourage that had been sent to find him trailing behind, as if afraid he would try to escape after they had gone to such efforts to locate him.

His eyes darted towards the door, and he attempted to step forward, only to be blocked by the handmaiden, who shouted, "What in the cursed Fae do you think you're doing?!"

Valerie raised an eyebrow, utterly perplexed by the Fae's exaggerated reaction. He hadn't done anything wrong other than trying to enter his mother's chamber. Her response seemed to suggest she had something to hide.

"What do you think I'm doing?" he asked, his brow slightly furrowed.
