Chapter 31.5 : Hopes and Dreams

After slowly becoming smaller and smaller over the course of a few days, the enormous eye in the sky seemed close to reaching its limit, or so thought many of the monsters stuck in the sea below it.

Then, after what seemed like an eternity to ******, who was still fully conscious, the inevitable happened.

The eye popped, spurting extremely toxic acid onto the sea below it.

But even so, the acid did not have the time to reach the sea of monsters, as the very next instant, dark cracks began appearing in the sky, spreading from the place where the eye existed.

Instantly, these cracks spread millions of miles, and stretched throughout all existence, causing the monsters still stuck in the sea to feel a hopeless dread unlike anything else they had seen before.

Sadly though, although extremely powerful by human standards, these mere slaves that comprised the infinite sea were not able to do anything to change their fate, no matter how much they tried.

A tiny fraction of a moment later, a certain person finally reacted, realizing what had happened, causing her to suddenly disappear.

A moment after Diana disappeared, the cracks, as well as everything else that remained of the eye, suddenly disappeared, being replaced by pitch darkness.

In under an octillionth of a second, this pitch darkness devoured the entire humongous sea, as well as everything that existed in this dimension, as the very core of this dimension, that very eye, was tempered with by a foolish mortal.

By the time an entire second had passed, this entire dimension had ceased to exist, leaving absolutely nothing behind but pitch darkness, no mass, no energy, no space, no time.

After an unknown amount of time, as time seemed to have lost its meaning in this place, something finally appeared.

Ironically, the thing that appeared was the very person that had been so daring as to temper with something so powerful, while the helpless pawns stuck in the sea below had long since disappeared.

...

Darkness.

This was all that Diana saw as she opened her eyes, causing a rather awkward look to appear on her face.

'It seems as though I messed up quite a bit,' thought Diana as she began moving her body around only to feel nothing.

There was nothing around her, nothing in front of her, nothing behind her, nothing anywhere.

Slowly but surely, Diana began moving around this place, searching for something, anything, even a single atom of matter, even a tiny amount of energy, anything.

Diana had time, a lot of time, but no matter how much she searched, no matter how much Diana struggled, she found nothing.

Perhaps she had not moved in the slightest, perhaps all of her movement was an illusion created by her mind, maybe that was why Diana had not found anything.

Sadly though, Diana could never know if this was truly the case, and could only continue struggling, as she was not someone who would leave herself to fate.

At first, Diana's sense of time, which was usually extremely precise, was confused, making her completely unable to certify if a second or a year had passed.

It was as if it was not Diana who was confused, rather, time itself.

But somewhere along the way, after Diana continued struggling for an unknown amount of time, something seemed to change.

In an instant, Diana's sense of time, which she seemed to have lost, returned all at once, letting her know that she had been in this place for over a thousand years.

It was as if time itself had returned to this place, in which time did not exist previously.

But even though time had now appeared, it did not mean that Diana's struggle had become easier.

No, in fact, the knowledge of just how much time she had spent in this place made it much harder for Diana to continue with her goal.

A thousand years turned into ten thousand, which then turned into one hundred thousand, but even so, Diana's immortal body had not changed much.

By the time a million years had passed though, something changed once again, as a tiny white dot suddenly appeared in front of Diana.

As soon as she saw that dot, Diana's mind, which had sluggish for a long amount of time, instantly returned to its past self, as she fell into thought.

"Did this spot appear, or am I able to see it since I've gotten closer to it?" asked Diana, who was still unaware if she had even moved from her original spot.

Thankfully, though, the appearance of this spot of light gave Diana hope, and allowed her to continue traveling, one waddle at a time.

By the time another hundred thousand years had passed, Diana became certain, she was moving, as the spot of light clearly became closer and closer to her.

This fully fired up Diana, causing her to double her efforts and continue on her journey.

By the time a second million years had passed, the spot of light in front of Diana had become as visible as the moon was back on earth, warning Diana that she was getting closer and closer to her goal.

Once another hundred thousand years had passed, the spot seemed as large as the sun, but even so, Diana could feel no heat coming from it.

After one hundred thousand more years, the spot the began seemingly shrinking, becoming as small as the moon in just a thousand years.

In another thousand years, the spot of light became the size of Diana's finger.

And after a final thousand years, it returned to being completely tiny, causing Diana's hopes to be slightly dashed, but even so, Diana carried on.

One hundred years later, though, Diana reached it.

A small sphere of light, around the size of Diana's palm, this is what greeted Diana after her long, long journey.

A moment later, Diana stretched out her hand and gripped the sphere of light.

In an instant, Diana lost consciousness once again.
