12 Luck

"Hey ladies! How are we doing tonight?" Jared asks the table full of women near the bar where we have been sitting for the past hour.

I wish I had the mans confidence to talk to a table full of cute and sexy women, all in different states of intoxication. However, compared to him, I'm boring in the looks and personality department. It's hard to outshine someone who's the definition of an underwear model and has the charisma to boot.

"Lucky bastard." I mutter under my breath knowing he's about to get laid tonight, if not he'll have half the tables numbers at the least. Luck has not been on my side with the ladies ever since I lost my lucky coin that my dad gave me when I turned eighteen. He said it was lucky cause it helped him meet my mom. I think he was hoping I'd have some of that luck rub off one me.

So much for lady luck, right?

I take a long drink from my beer, not really caring for how this night will probably end up going.

An hour later, he's dragged me over, and I've been subjected to being ignored at the table instead of the bar, even with Jared trying to bring me into the conversation.

I finally get up and excuse myself from the table, heading to grab another beer and go shoot some pool.

"That looked painful."

My head whips up from my beer as a soft, amused, female voice sounds out from right next to me. I catch the small, round face of a woman who only comes up to my shoulders in height.

"What?" The question slips from my mouth because she can't be talking to me right?

"All those women fawning all over your friend, like you didn't even exist. That must suck to be ignored like that." She was cute I had to admit, as she looked up at me with doe like eyes.

I shrug, "I don't care. I wasn't really that interested in their topic of conversation."

She gives me a wide smile and light giggle, that light up her bright blue eyes. "Dare I ask, what was that topic?"

Her smile is infectious, the corners of my own lips going up as I roll my eyes, "One of their teacup chihuahuas getting knocked up by a mini yorkie and now the babies look like they should be part of Gremlins."

She bursts into laughter, "Really?"

I shrug, scratching the back of my neck, "Well at least I believe they fit the description, they think "they're adorable"."

Not missing a beat she asks, "Before or after eating at midnight?"

"After, they are definitely after midnight, in the looks department." We both have a laugh at that, when I notice a table get's freed up.

"Oh good, finally." She mumbles, noticing the open table, "I've been waiting to play for the past hour. Would you like to play a game?" She hooks her thumb over her shoulder as she steps backwards to claim the table.

"Sure." I wanted to play a game anyways and she seemed pretty cool, so why not?

She played a pretty darn good game too, we've been evenly matched so far tonight. Out of the four games so far, it's been win, loss, and then each a win by technicality, by knocking the eight in before the rest of our balls were off the table. We were playing this to break our ties and we were both left with a ball and the eight, and it was my shot.

"So, you want to up this friendly game a little bit?" She inquires, leaning against the table on one hand, the other holding her pool cue.

I was enjoying myself so far tonight and couldn't help but smile at her, taking a step closer to her, "What did you have in mind?"

"If you win...." She starts off, but I finish it, "I get to take you out to grab a bite to eat after this."

She chuckles, making me note the rosy color rising in her cheeks.

"Okay, and if I win.... I get to choose the place."

I can hardly contain my broadening smile at her words. Either way tonight, she wanted to spend more time with me.

"Deal." I nod to try and keep it cool, picking up my cue to reassess my shots. I glance over to Jared and notice he's still stuck at the table with the gremlin dog owner who's obviously drunk, hanging all over him and two of her girlfriends. I shake my head and try not to laugh at his obvious discomfort.

Maybe he's not as lucky as I thought he was?

I take my shot and the cue follows in my ball.

"Damn, too hard..." I mutter, I can't help my bit of competitive personality still wanting to win, even though I win tonight, regardless.

My blue eyed munchkin giggles and takes the cue in hand, lining up her shot. She follows through, smoothly making her shot and ensuring the cue was in the general area of her next shot. She double checks her angles and gives me a dazzling smile that makes her eyes sparkle.

I think my heart just stopped. She's absolutely beautiful.

"Side pocket."

Her statement shakes me from my daze and I clear my throat, with a nod, "Yeah, of course." I grip my cue as she takes her shot and sinks its beautifully.

"Good game." I smile at her and notice her blush. I decide to get the heck out of here and see if I can continue to make her smile and blush.

"Let me go tell my buddy I am leaving for the night, I'll be right back." I motion to Jared, making her nod in agreement.

"Alright, I'll meet you right out front after I pay my tab." She smiles again and makes her way to pay her tab first.

I head over to Jared, struggling to keep the gremlin dog owner's hands off of him.

"JARED!" I holler at him even though I'm only two feet away, making him jump up and excuse himself.

He takes my arm and walks with me to the bar, "Oh thank god, man! That woman wouldn't let me leave! Her hand was on my junk and every time I shifted to get up, she'd claw my nuts!"

I laugh and pat him on the back, "Sorry about your luck man, but you're just too nice sometimes. Hey listen, I'm taking off. I'm going to get something to eat with this chick I met tonight."

"The one you've been playing pool with?" Jared nods, smiling, putting out his hand for me clasp. "Right on! Go have fun man." He pats me on the back and continues, "Don't worry about your tab, I got it for you for saving me from that lady at the table. Go have a blast, lady luck is smiling at you tonight." He lets me go and shoos me to leave as he turns to the bartender to take care of my tab.

I head out the front door, taking off to see where this woman wanted to go.
